Four: I'm Not a Spy

"I hope you slept peacefully." Agent Burke said, sitting down in his office chair with elegance and grace.

It took me a moment to realize he was speaking to me, for I was too busy thinking about what Dominic had said. Was he really onto something?

I shook the thoughts away, "Uh, yes- yes I did."

"After she nearly tore her room apart." Noah commented, causing me to roll my eyes and huff.

"Could you be any more sour?" I asked him, popping out my hip and crossing my arms.

"Could you be any more of a waste of time?" He asked, mirroring my 'white girl' tone & movements.

Agent Burke chuckled, a wide smile forming on his lips. "Listen you two- not that I don't enjoy watching you quarrel, but we really must get down to business."

I nodded respectfully, making my way to the only chair that sat across from his. Before I could sit down, Noah placed his butt there first. I stood there and glared at him, not finding his pretend obliviousness funny.

"Spice is planning on killing the queen of Romania." Burke blurted out, quickly catching both of our attention. I sat down on the arm of the chair, finding it surprising how Noah didn't resist. Maybe the shock was too much?

"With a necklace?" I asked, cocking one eyebrow. Recalling the events of yesterday, Spice had mentioned something about the purpose of the necklace. She wanted it in order to poison someone- was she talking about the queen?

Burke nodded his head, "Yes, but she's going to poison her with it."

I stared at him with confusion, before slowly nodding my head like I understood- I had no idea how that was even possible, but whatever.

"Spice shouldn't even be able to get near the queen." Noah added, adjusting his position in the chair. "What about the high security detail?"

A long sigh escalated Burke's mouth, as he gingerly rubbed his temples. "You see, the queen's 45th birthday is Saturday, and she's celebrating it with this full week retreat for couples only. Miraculously, Spice and her husband received and invite. They're going to be there, and they're going to kill her on the last night with the gift they will have given her. We can't let that happen. If she takes Romania, she won't stop till she takes the whole world too. Can you imagine the horror? Moira Spice controlling earth?"

I recalled how things were yesterday, and shivered at the thought of Spice ruling the whole world. "Yea, no. That can't happen."

"That's why you two will be going undercover as Mr, and Mrs. Romanoff, the Duke and Dutchess of Croatia."

I sat there for a moment, a cheeky smile on my face as I processed what he had just said. Quickly glancing over at Noah, I saw how unhappy he was- but my problem right now wasn't the fact that I supposedly had to pretend to be in love with the guy whose guts I despised.

My problem was, what the hell is Croatia?

I've never heard of it before, but it seems like the other two have. I'm contemplating on whether or not I should ask, because I didn't want Agent Burke to think I was stupid too.

"Croatia's a country near Romania." Noah said, as if he could read my mind.

I nodded after his words, "Yea, I knew that."

Noah raised an eyebrow, and I gave him a pleasing look. Don't make me look pathetic, Noah. Not in front of one of the smartest men alive.

He rolled his eyes, and let Agent Burke continue to speak.

"All I ask is that you stop them from killing that queen." Burke sighed, "We all know how much of a disaster it would be if Spice gets the crown."

"What's the plan?" Noah asked, sitting up in his chair. I straightened my posture as well, trying to seem proper and professional- even though we all know that's not what I am.

Burke opened one of his drawers, before tossing a yellow folder right in front of us. "We'll fly you to Romania Friday night, where you'll meet a specialized makeup team. They'll transform you to be unrecognizable, yet look like a Duke and Duchess normally would. You'll attend the week retreat, and keep a close eye on Moira and Orion, and when the time comes, take them down before the queen puts on that necklace."

He made it sound like that was even possible. Yea, well, I'm not a spy and Noah isn't even capable of being a decent boyfriend. I don't think this mission would work out very well.

"Pardon me, but this mission sounds-"

"Easy." Noah spat.

"Yea, totally. I thought for sure it would be somewhat challenging but I guess I was wrong." I quickly reacted. I couldn't let Noah think he was better than me because he's not. I could do everything he can, and I'll prove it too him. I'll prove it to everyone.

"Great!" Agent Burke cheered, clapping his hands together. "I knew I could count on the both of you."

I smiled, hiding the doubt in the bottom of my stomach. There's no way this mission would be successful, especially with Noah and I pretending to be in love. Yea right.

"Everything you need to know is in there." Burke nodded to the yellow folder on top of his desk. "Go through that folder, and learn everything. The names of the people who will be there, their titles, ages, backgrounds, stories- everything. Learn the culture, the formalities, the etiquette, the behavior- don't ignore a single thing in there, am I clear?"

"Crystal." Noah replied, taking the folder off the desk and standing up.

"Um, yea, crystal clear." I added, laughing externally, but crying for help on the inside. My brain isn't big enough to memorize all of that.

"In the meantime, Noah, teach her how to fight." Burke stood up, and began walking towards the door.

Noah let out a large grunt, "I don't want to teach this brat anything. She has the brain capacity of a two-year old."

I snarled, "I do not."

"Make Dominic do it." Noah demanded, "Besides, Ava here has the hots for him."

The satisfied smirk on his face only made me want to lose my cool, and go off on him. I've been holding it in for so long, and want nothing more then to blow his face off with my rage.

"Fine. I'll make Dominic do it. See you later." Burke left his office, and I turned to narrow my eyes at Noah.

"What was that?" I asked him, turning on my interrogative tone and behavior.

He looked at me like I was some alien, "What was what?"

"That." I snapped, "Why did he let you off the hook just because you said no?"

He furrowed his brows, "What?"

"You did the same thing last night, too.- you didn't want to guard the door, so you made Burke make Dominic do it. Didn't you?"

Upon hearing Dominic's name, Noah rolled his eyes in disgust and annoyance. "What did he tell you, huh? That Burke and I are conspiring against him?"

I hesitated, "No."

"Yes." He confirmed, "Don't listen to what he says, Ava, it's all in his head. Dom's just jealous that Burke likes me more- that I'm his favorite."

Noah made his way to the door, pausing once his hand rested on the doorknob. "Don't believe everything you hear. Especially not when we're in Romania. Stupidness like that will only get you killed."
