Olivia's POV:
"Olivia, help me lift this last box upstairs!" I hear my mom call out as I was unpacking the last of my things from the boxes.
I use my arm to wipe the sweat from my forehead and push myself up from the ground. I maneuver through the stacks of boxes in the middle of the hallway and see my mom halfway through the door with a box that was twice her size.
"I told you shoving a bunch of stuff in one box was gonna be something you regret." I chuckle as she had a look of annoyance when the box didn't budge as she attempted to push again.
"Well I have you, don't I?" She smirks, moving the strands of hair that blocked her face.
I walk to the other side of the box and once we lifted it a couple of inches off the ground, I got a better hold of it so we could lift it higher. I cautiously took a couple of steps back until my heels were met with the first step of the stairs.
"Okay, watch your step." My mom warned with each step we took.
"I know, I know," I mumble until we reached the top. "You just had to pick a house that was two stories. It's only the two of us, you know."
Once my mom reached the top of the stairs, we placed the box on the ground. "It was the only house closest to your school and my job. If you had a license, things would be different." She grunted.
"Hey, don't act like you don't enjoy my music taste whenever we go somewhere together." I tease and walk over to her side so we could push the box to her room.
"Why do you think I made you have your room downstairs?" She laughed but I punched her shoulder. She gasped then smacked me in the head. "Hey, no violence." She scolded.
"But you hit me after!"
"I'm the mom, I get to do whatever I want." She says, causing me to roll my eyes with a chuckle. "In all seriousness, things are going to change, Olivia. You can't rely on me all the time, you know. You have to grow up eventually."
I didn't say a word but continued pushing the box with all my might until we were in her room, along with the rest of her boxes that were nearby. "Damn, you have a bigger room than I do, I'm gonna go finish--"
She grabbed my arm before I could leave. "Olivia, I'm serious. It's time you try and put yourself out there. Make some friends, get a job, save up money so you can buy a car, things you need to get started." She gave a small smile. "Don't look for love yet, you're still young."
"I had friends, why are you making it seem like I didn't." I protested.
"The janitor and your last school's librarian don't count." She said and I pull my arm away so she could let go. "Friends your age. Like that one girl you always brought over."
"First off, Ned and Dorothy were pretty cool people to listen to if I wanted to know some stories about my teachers and class. And second, she moved. Remember?" I say and she pinched the bridge of her nose. I cross my arms with a sigh of defeat. "Fine, I'll sign up for the school's newspaper or something."
She nodded then pulled me into a hug. I wrap my arms around her as well. "That's my girl. Now, go finish unpacking so you can help me with dinner."

I grab my backpack off the rack beside me and quickly run down the stairs. The scent of pancakes filled the room, causing me to smile since mom knew it was my favorite.
"Is it the famous Flores buffet?" I announce, slinging my backpack on the chair and grabbing a paper plate from the side since I wasn't trying to wash my dish.
My mom served me a pancake and three pieces of bacon while I grabbed a water bottle from the fridge.
"It would've been but we have to get going now if you want to make it on time for school." She looked at her phone.
"You've gotta be kidding me." I groan and grab my plate from the table and my backpack. "I'm taking it with me."
As my mom drove me to school, I tried eating as fast as I could since I didn't want my teachers seeing that I'm known to always be late for class.
Even though I am, but they don't have to know that.
Once we pull up in the front of the school, I step out of the car and shut the door behind me. "Do you need me to walk you so we both could talk to the principal? I have time to--"
"No really, it's fine. I have to do this on my own, remember?" I say and she smiles.
"Good point. Have fun at school, stay safe, I'll try to see if I can get out of work early so I can pick you up." She says, slowly going forward as I continued walking. "I love you!"
"Love you too, now go!" I groan and she rolls up her window, driving away from the school.
I turn to face the school but was immediately met with a man who could practically be my grandpa, wearing a suit.
"Holy shit, you scared me." I gasp out but he smiles warmly.
"I'll pretend I didn't hear you swear. I assume you must be Olivia Flores?" He asks, looking down at a folder.
"Yeah...who are you?" I ask and he offers his hand.
"I'm Gerard Argent, your new principal." He says and my eyes widen.
"I-I'm so sorry." I stammer, shaking his hand.
"It's alright. Not what you expected, huh?" He chuckles and gestures for me to follow him. "Welcome to Beacon Hills High School."
"Not even close, no offense," I say as he leads me inside the school. "So do I have to pick up my schedule from the office? Is that still a thing?"
He pulls out a sheet of paper from his folder. "Nope, I already handled it." He hands me the paper and it showed the six classes I had for the rest of the year.
"Oh, thanks." I smile as we walk past through the crowd of students. He pulls something out of his pocket and it was a small container. He opens the lid, revealing the several blue pills, then takes one and pops it into his mouth. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, it's just I'm doing my daily medicine. Forgot to do it this morning." He says as he puts the container back in his pocket. "Now, let me show you to--"
We both hear a phone ping and he pulls his phone out of his pocket. His expression never wavered and looks back up to face me.
"I apologize but I'm needed elsewhere. Let me see if--Oh!" He points at a girl who was looking through her things in her locker. "Have Allison show you where your classes are and say that the principal sent you. If she's late to any of her classes, have her go to the office to get a pass from me." He says and I nod.
"Okay," I say and he pats my arm.
"Have a good day." He says before walking off in a different direction. I turn back to the brunette haired girl and see she was wearing a grey sweater with a white skirt.
Alright Olivia, at least use this as your chance to make a friend.
I was about to walk to her but I heard some girls nearby whispering to each other as they stared at Allison.
"Not her sister, her aunt. The one who murdered all those people." The girl in the plaid long sleeve whispered.
Her friend that was wearing a green knitted sweater scoffed at her response. "You mean the crazy bitch who killed all those people."
"Yeah the fire, all those animal attacks, it was her aunt."
"Are you kidding? I sit next to her in English."
"Find a new seat." The girl responded with a laugh, causing her friend to giggle as well.
I scoff loudly, causing their attention to shift to me. "Instead, how about you find a new hobby instead of gossiping like children. I mean, seriously?" I glare, making them drop their smiles. "Get lost, assholes."
They immediately both shut their lockers and quickly walk away, most likely to their classes.
I turn and see Allison give a small smile. I walk up to her and see she had her books in her hands.
"You didn't have to do that, you know." She mumbles. "You're not gonna believe the stories and run off too?"
"I mean, I'm still here right?" I reply, making her smile. "Besides, no one deserves that."
She puts a book in her locker. "I've never seen you here before. Are you new?" I scratch my neck nervously.
"That's part of the reason why I was about to come up to you in the first place. The principal asked if you could show me around." I say, handing her my schedule.
She reads the first class I had and her eyes lit up. "Oh, I have English next too. I can walk you there now if you want?" She suggests and I nod.
"That'd be great," I say and she shuts her locker. We continued walking down the hallway and I put my schedule in my pocket.
"So where did you move from?"
"Miami, Florida."
Her eyes widen. "Wow, so why California?"
"My mom got this promotion out of nowhere so I didn't really have a choice."
"I get that. My family constantly moved place to place because..." She trailed off but then coughed. "of his security job."
"So you got lucky then, huh? You stayed here for longer than a year?" I ask and she nods.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure we'll be here for a while." She chuckles.
"If you don't mind me asking," I say and she turns to face me. "what exactly happened to your aunt?"
She stiffens and faces forward again. "It's a long story."
"Sorry, I didn't mean to pry. I was just curious." I say but she shakes her head.
"It's okay, it's just...we had her funeral yesterday and it's been kind of hectic. It's—"
"You don't have to explain if it's too much." I cut in.
She smiles. "Thanks...actually what's your name?"
She stops in front of the classroom and I offer my hand. "Olivia Flores."
She shakes it with a smile. "Allison Argent."
"Oh, so the principal is--" The bell interrupts my sentence. "nevermind. We can talk later." I say and she nods, walking inside the classroom first.

Throughout the day, Allison had been showing me around the school grounds and at this point, I can consider her being my first friend so far.
I guess it felt good to have a friend my age. Oh god, that's depressing to say.
"Are you sure you don't need a ride? I'm already having a friend come over to my house later." She says as we both walk out of the school.
"No really, it's okay. My mom was planning on picking me up anyways." I say and she nods, taking out her keys from her bag.
"Alright well, I'll see you tomorrow." She waves before walking towards her car.
I sat down on one of the benches and pull out my phone to play this Harry Potter game I downloaded the other day.
"Stupid quidditch timer," I mumble, missing the target I was supposed to hit.
I hear the doors burst open, causing me to jolt in my seat. I turn seeing a boy my age with shaggy hair get escorted into the sheriff's vehicle that was not too far away from where I was.
Another guy comes out as well and had a worrisome expression, seeing the police car drive off.
He was about to walk back inside the school until a black Chevy Camaro pulls up as well. I couldn't make out the face that well but all I knew was that it was a guy.
The guy in front of the school doors scoff. "Are you serious? You did that, that's your fault."
"I know that now get in the car and help me." The guy in the car responds.
"No, I've got a better idea. I'm gonna call a lawyer because a lawyer might actually have a chance at getting him out before the moon goes up." He walks closer to the Camaro.
"Let's not talk here. It's worse in the house, now get in Scott." The car door opens and Scott notices how I was close by.
I avert my eyes, acting like I wasn't just eavesdropping their conversation and hear the car door shut. As the black Chevy Camaro drives off, I couldn't help but wonder what they were talking about.
What's the big deal if the moon goes up?
