Nineteen
A/n:
This chapter broke my heart a bit :( oh well had to add drama somehow!
Olivia's POV:
"Scott," I call out as he was about to leave with Stiles. Once I see Allison get in her car, I turn to him. "are you sure you don't want to stay here with Allison? I-I don't think I'm the right person, especially since you would be better at protecting her."
"Hey don't—"
"I can't do what you guys can do. You should be the one to stay, especially since I hid the fact Derek offered me to join his pack." I nervously cross my arms. "I wouldn't be surprised if you definitely don't trust me.
"Olivia, you guys are going to be okay." He pats my arm with assurance. "I know his offer was probably tempting for you, but look at where you are now. You're still on our side so...I trust you."
The pit of my stomach sinks at his words. Before I would've been happy that he finally trusts me but now it's completely different after what I almost did with Allison. Oh my god, I'm a horrible human being.
He was about to walk away but I grab his arm. "If you aren't going to stay, then can you do me a favor?"
He nods. "Of course."
"Can you check on my mom? The Argents aren't exactly on good terms with me." I fiddle with my sleeves. "Pretty sure they know that I'm around you guys a lot."
"Sure thing. She works with my mom, right?" I nod. "It'll give me a reason to check on mine too."
"Thanks." I give a weak smile.
"No problem. Just call if something goes wrong, I'll get here as fast as I can." He says and I nod.
He gets in the Jeep with Stiles and I watch them as they drive further into the woods.
Okay, it shouldn't be bad being with Allison. She and I are still friends...I think?
I walk to her car and open the front seat door, instantly hearing the song lightly playing in the background. I recognized the song to be 'The Argument' by Aidan Hawkan and from the way her posture was, I could tell she was in deep thought since she didn't even bother to glance my way.
She was staring at the city ahead in silence as I awkwardly get inside the car and shut the door.
"So..." I trail, nervously tapping my fingers on my legs. "It's a nice night outside."
"Mhm." Allison hums in agreement.
She makes her seat lean back slightly, turning to her side to face away from me.
"Tired?" I spoke up again and she simply hums in response again.
I couldn't take it anymore. "Look, we need to talk about yesterday," I say, turning so I would rest my back on the door.
"I don't want to talk about it."
I roll my eyes in annoyance. "Then I guess I'll talk about it with Scott."
She instantly turns, making her seat quickly sit up which causes me to jump. "Alright then let me make this short and sweet." She turns to me fully. "We both need to pretend that it never happened because it shouldn't have happened."
My eyes widen. "I-I--"
"Olivia, I'm with Scott. Don't you get that? We never should have almost kissed." She raises her voice. "He's my boyfriend!"
I glare. "From the way you almost kissed me, it seemed like you forgot."
"You're unbelievable." She scoffed. "Did you really think within the same day I would dump him for you?"
I scoff. "I never expected you to! If I can recall, who was the one who put their hand on my face? You're the one who initiated it! Even after the whole thing, I still felt horrible because I knew it was wrong, so don't put the blame on me."
"You were probably going to mess with my relationship regardless because you couldn't stand seeing Scott and I together." She crosses her arms.
"Yeah, I'm definitely jealous of the way you two make out like two seals fighting over a grape." I scoff which causes her to glare. "I'll admit that seeing the two of you together, it made me feel weird." I say, crossing my arms as well. "But I never ever would sabotage someone's relationship for my own benefit."
Allison rolls her eyes. "You're just saying that because you're jealous of Scott."
I shake my head disappointingly. "You know what? Yeah, I'm jealous. I'm jealous that Scott is actually a nice human being who would go out of his way to protect his friends. But for me? What the hell do I bring to the table? Absolutely nothing! Thanks for reminding me that I'm useless to this team, Allison."
"That's not what I meant."
"Isn't it? The entire day, I pushed the thoughts of yesterday back and still wanted to be your friend when I saw your mom giving you a hard time. You chose to act like an asshole and ignore me the entire day. The only reason we're here is that Scott forced me to stay with you."
She tries to reach for my hand. "I'm sorry--"
"Don't!" I yelled, yanking my hand. "I'm tired of trying to be there for you. My heart can't take it anymore." I wipe my tears with my sleeve. "Once Scott comes back, I'm gonna walk home."
"Olivia please, let's talk this out." She pleads but I open the door.
"I think we talked enough already," I say as I step out of the car. "I won't say anything to Scott if you're worried."
I slam the door and walk over to the tree that was nearby the van. As I inch closer to the vehicle, I see the doors were ripped apart which made shivers go up to my spine.
Jackson escaped.
I hear footsteps run to me but I already knew it was Allison.
She gasps. "Oh my god...I-I'll call Scott."
Not too long after the phone call, Stiles and Scott jump out of the car and run to us, worried expressions already formed on their faces.
"H-How did he escape? Weren't you guys on lookout?" Stiles asks.
Allison stays quiet as she worriedly looks at Scott. Typical.
"I told Allison she could sleep but after I felt exhausted from today and I passed out without even realizing," I say and see Scott eyeing the doors in shock.
"I have to tell my father," Allison says but Scott backs away from the van. "Scott, he's going to kill someone."
He nods. "O-Okay, tell him." He stutters. "Tell him everything."
"Scott I gotta tell mine too." Stiles nervously says as well.
"This is all my fault," Scott whispers but I shake my head.
"It's not. I've said this from the beginning, we're just a bunch of teenagers. We can't handle this." I say and Allison looks at Stiles.
"How are you going to make your dad believe all of this?" She places her hands on her hips.
"I don't know," Stiles mumbles.
Scott turns around with his yellow werewolf eyes. "He'll believe me."

I unlock the doors to my house and walk inside, seeing my mom in the living room with a letter in her hands.
"You know, I might start making a curfew for you." She says, making me stop in my tracks. "You need to get here early from now on since it's a school night."
"Sorry," I mumble, walking to the fridge to grab a water bottle. "What's in the letter?"
"Child support money." She says and lifts up the letter. "Your father sent thirty-two dollars for child support. How the hell is that supposed to help?" I weakly smile but she looks at me with concern. "Everything okay?"
"Define okay."
She places the letter on the table and gets up from her spot. She pulls me in a hug and I couldn't help but let the tears fall. She rubs circles around my back as I cried in her arms.
"Is it friend trouble?"
"Somewhat." I sniffle.
"Girl trouble?" I didn't answer and she pulls away to cup my cheek. "Do you want to talk about it?"
"Not really. I just need you." I say and she nods, hugging me tighter.
It's silent for a moment until she speaks up once more. "Wanna know what my mom asked me when I was like this about a boy?"
"What?" I mumble, not really wanting to talk about Allison.
"What do you do when you miss the bus?"
I furrow my eyebrows and slowly pull away with confusion. "You run after it."
She shakes her head. "No. You sit and wait until the next one comes."
"As much as I love grandma Rosie, I have no idea what you're trying to say."
She tucks some of my hair behind my ear. "Don't chase after someone who isn't worth your time. You should wait for the one that's going to make you happy. Not the ones who cause you to be this upset."
"It's hard when I can't stop caring about her."
She gives a small smile. "I never said it would be easy. It takes time."
After a while, she told me to head to bed since she knew I wanted to be alone in my thoughts.
I shut my door once I walk in and flip the light switch on. I turn to toss my bag on my bed but then see a familiar strawberry blonde sitting on the bean bag chair.
"What the--Lydia?" I ask and she nods. "What are you doing here?"
"I've been sitting here for an hour waiting for you." She says, fiddling with her fingers.
I kick off my shoes. "It's late. Can't we just hang out tomorrow?"
"I don't need anyone to hang out with." She retorts but then relaxes. "I need someone to talk to."
I slip off my jacket and toss it in my dirty laundry bin. "Can it wait for tomorrow? I'm exhausted."
Lydia stands up from her spot with an annoyed look. "Why is everyone always telling me to wait? Why can't anyone have right now available?" She crosses her arms.
"You can't have everything you want, Lyds," I respond harshly and her eyes widen at my tone. "Wanna know what I need? I need someone to translate five pages of Archaic Latin. Obviously, that's not gonna happen anytime soon." I gesture to my computer that had the notes from the bestiary.
I had sent myself a copy of the bestiary to help Allison translate without her knowing so she wouldn't stress about it. However, now that we're fighting, it seemed pointless.
"I know Archaic Latin." She says and my eyes widen.
"Really?"
"I got bored with Classical Latin." She shrugs and pushes me away, taking a seat in front of the computer.
"Just how smart are you?" I ask and she chuckles. I click to open the tabs and she scans over the paragraphs.
She points at the highlighted sentence. "That's wrong."
"The Kanima seeks a friend?" I ask and she nods.
"Yeah, that's wrong."
"Are you sure?" I tilt my head in confusion. "Ms. Morell said that it means 'the Kanima seeks a friend.'"
"She's wrong." She says as she sits up from the chair. "It means master."
"The Kanima seeks a master...oh my god." I trail but then my eyes widen in realization. "Someone's controlling him."
