WORLDBUILDING (TWO)

❝ MANKIND WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO EXPAND THEIR RESOURCES AND KNOWLEDGE ❞

ANOTHER big step for mankind was colonising Venus. Technology has allowed humans to build floating cities above the surface while setting up space stations to look further into the universe. Like Mars, these colonies are also solar powered but strong winds and large amounts of carbon in the atmosphere have also allowed for them to thrive on additional energy produced by turbines and graphene-powered superconductors. Given the colonies lie in the thick clouds of Venus, it has been occasionally referred to as the Cities of Cloud Planet. There are only 3 colonies on Venus.

❝ CIRRUS CITY IS BUILT ON ART AND ARCHITECTURE ❞

CIRRUS City is the largest colony, named after the fibrous cloud formations. Residents of Cirrus are known to be very creative with their arts and buildings tend to reflect the ancient baroque-style with a modern twist. They are very concerned with materialistic ideals and public images and can spend hours pampering themselves. Hence Cirrus is also known as the City of Beauty. Cirrus Colony is under the Rule and Management of American space giant Interstellar Exploration (IntEx).

❝ STRATUS CITY IS BUILT ON SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS ❞

STRATUS City is the second largest colony, named after the layered cloud formations. Residents of Stratus are extremely knowledgeable in the scientific field and usually are the ones responsible for extracting and decontaminating resources obtained from the surface or from the air. Their medical facilities are known to be far superior to any other colony and rumour has it that they also dominate the virtual gaming industry. Stratus Colony is under the Rule and Management of American space giant Galactic Space Corps (GSC).

❝ CUMULUS CITY IS BUILT ON PHILOSOPHY AND LITERATURE ❞

CUMULUS City is the smallest colony, named after the heaped cloud formations. Residents of Cumulus are extremely practiced diplomats and strive to maintain the peace between planets and colonies. They prefer a minimalistic way of living and can be said to be the opposite of Cirrus residents. The horticulture lifestyle is also common throughout the city. Cumulus Colony is under the Rule and Management of Chinese-Japanese joint space giants Orbital Space Company (OSC).

❝ NO ONE TALKS ABOUT ARCUS CITY, BUT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A RESEARCH CENTRE ❞

ARCUS City is a long-forgotten colony that was the first to land on Venus, named after the rolling cloud formations. Having been given a fatal error in calculation, the city was landed too close to the surface and all humans on board perished. This floating paradise still holds the remains of technology from 2150. Modern archaeologists and historians are debating on whether the landing of the Arcus Colony was real and where it is today. It is rumoured to be under the Rule and Management of a private American space company.

❝ CHAMPAGNE TOWER ❞

SEOKJIN twirled a pen in his hand effortlessly as he listened to his AI assistant run the numbers on the cost of building a new tower in Cirrus. The monorail carriage he was sitting in pulled slowly to a stop in front of a glass-domed building.

"MONA remind me again, who is this party for?"

"According to my data, this party is for the engagement of your second cousin Daehyun Kim and his fiancée Liya Jeon, the daughter of Stratus' head researcher."

Seokjin sighed and ran his hand through his hair. The doors of his carriage opened with a small hiss and he stepped outside in the golden Venusian sunset. The bouncer let him in without a word and he turned around slowly once inside to admire the chandelier.

"I'm glad you like the chandelier too. So glad you can make it." A voice behind Seokjin made his head turn.

The blonde-haired male in a perfectly ironed tux and a silver earring in his left ear grinned.

"Congrats on your engagement, Daehyun. When's the wedding?"

"In about a few weeks. You are coming, right?"

"Of course."

Daehyun put his thumbs in his pockets and tilted his head.

"No date again?"

"Too much of a hassle. Remember last time? Miya almost convinced the whole city we were married."

He shook his head, trying to get the sudden memory of the overly enthusiastic but thick-headed girl out of his mind.

"Well I'll see you around. I have other guests to greet."

Seokjin simply nodded as Daehyun went to greet a couple. His eyes fell on the champagne tower that was carefully stacked on a table. Servers with trays would offer guests appetisers and champagne with flaked gold leaf. A woman with bubblegum-pink hair caught his eye. She looked out of place amongst the ladies donned in jewel-encrusted dresses with her simple black dress. He watched as she approached Liya Jeon's brother, Jungkook and whispered a few words to him. Jungkook nodded and in a split-second, the champagne tower collapsed. The world around Seokjin seemed to slow down as he simply watched the glass tumble from the tower and spill the champagne all over the floor without a care in the world. When he did come to his senses, the mysterious woman and Jungkook were nowhere to be seen.

"Stupid kids." He muttered to himself.
