(6)AU #8

He could hear the commotion going on outside. Just outside his window. He was on the second floor of his office and base, and had nowhere to go. He was completely surrounded. Third Reich's lip quivered, his breathing uneven and hitching every so often. He didn't want to end it like this, he didn't want to leave his sons alone, but he had no choice. I mean, he was going to die either way anyway, so why bother prolonging it when he can make it quick and painless?
He gripped the small handgun he held in his hand tightly, his arms shaky and his legs sweating. He turned his head around to look through the window at the peaceful blue sky— dotted with clouds and displayed with such cool colors it was almost, calming. Peaceful. The young Nazi let a smile grace his lips. He began to accept his fate as he turned back around to hold a hand on the desk, leaning forward a bit. Third Reich closed his eyes and exhaled softly.
"So this is it, huh? This is where I meet my end? Well...I suppose with the choices I've made I find that inevitable," he muttered to himself with an airy chuckle, letting his eyes drag across the clutched gun. "God...if you're still listening— at all— please...don't let my sons bear the burden of my mistakes. I want them to live a life free from guilt. Let me carry that burden. After all, it is I who created it...Please...it's all I ask," he murmured. A few tears leaking from his eyes, and soon were dropping onto the gun and the documents below. He quietly let out a choked sob, then sniffed heavily.
Third Reich lifted it up, the barrel now pointed toward his head, and he closed his eyes tightly. The sounds of thundering footsteps and loud shouts of various languages grew louder then softer. His head drooped and he prepared to pull the trigger.
He'd expected to, if anything, at least be successful in that, but what he didn't expect was the door to burst open. His eyes widened and he made a sharp gasp as his head shot up in surprise. He'd barely had any time to react before the figure, who'd moved in at inhuman speeds, reached over the desk and snatched his gun then grabbed him and yanked him over. Third Reich let out a shocked cry, and he was suddenly pulled into the arms of the supposed stranger, while still laying awkwardly on the desk with papers and documents strewn haphazardly about with some knocked on the floor. He looked up in confusion and was even more surprised when he saw who it was.
"U..USSR..?" The grip on him only tightened, and his confusion and worry grew when he heard quiet sniffles and he looked up to see the elder man shedding a few tears of his own, gaze dropped and spaced out.
"You really are...a fucking idiot...you know that?" he murmured and buried his face into the Nazi's disheveled hat. Feelings of guilt and sorrow brewed up in him.
"I'm sorry..." Third Reich relaxed into his embrace and enjoyed the warm comfort the concerned man radiated. USSR gathered him up in his arms, now carrying him bridal style, and closed his eyes silently. Third Reich watched curiously as things around the room started to shift, and different sounds and visions were put into place. Everything around them had collapsed away then pieced together once more.
In their place were them two, but a different scene was set in place. It was once of an emotionless USSR bursting into the room, just when he'd pulled the trigger. The gunshot sent shivers down the Nazi's spine and he leaned closer into USSR's chest. He watched as his hologram self crumpled to the ground and USSR turning back to call for someone. Then it stopped, and sped back as if on rewind.
When it stopped again it looked like time had stopped as well. It was eerily silent.
"It is time to head home now, Nazi. Let's go," he said slowly, and broke open the window and slid out all in one smooth movement.
"W-Wait-!"
