Angelica.
What an Angel. But don't they say that the Devil was an Angel once?
They were right.
Angelica gave me my new nickname: Cookie. She said it was better than Crybaby. She told me that Cookie was a new me.
When everything went wrong, Angelica came to me. She told me it was okay, everything was alright. My brother and father did not deserve to die, not yet. I remember what she said to me that day. I remember her exact words.
'Life goes too fast, you know? Sometimes people leave us. Right when we expect them to stay.'
It's funny, how Angelica herself said it. People leave us right when we expect them to stay. Fighting a battle with cancer, I assumed I would die. That's when I truly decided to write this book.
So people will remember who I am. And some people, some very special ones, will be able to find out how I felt about them.
I thought Angelica was an Angel. Maybe that's why her parents named her that. She was there for me when no one else was. Or was she?
We became best friends. I told her everything bottled up inside me. Maybe because there was no one else who was willing to listen. I told her about the nights I spent crying, telling myself to be strong. I told her about the times my mother screamed at me, even though it was not my fault. I told her about my father, who died so soon, yet he lived on inside our hearts.
I told her about Meg, too.
But when I told her about one specific thing, she left.
I told her I had cancer.
Maybe she wouldn't be able to deal with my death, if we became too close. Maybe she was just shocked. Maybe the thought of having cancer triggered a sad memory for her.
Maybe that's why she told everyone my secrets.
She never told me.
