xix- christmas

"IT'S CHRISTMAS!"

The voice of William Weasley echoed throughout the burrow, in the morning. Jessica groggily got up, and wore a dress, the same dress she wore last Christmas.

She went downstairs with Ginny, and wished everyone Christmas. Everyone, except Fred and George, whose eyes she avoided.

The mood of the burrow was as bright and cheerful as ever. Everyone sat together downstairs on couches and began to exchange gifts. Mrs. Weasley had gifted all the children, individual hand-knitted sweaters with the intial first letter of each person's first name. Jessica immediately put on her blue sweater, with a big "J" on it, in gold, and thanked Mrs. Weasley dearly, and she meant it too. She loved the sweater, it was incredibly warm and soft, overall, extremely comfortable to wear, especially in the freezing weather.

This was the part she was dreading. Any moment now, Fred and George would open their presents, and have their hearts crushed.

To take her mind off, she called Percy over to give him her present. She had gotten him a copy of, "Prefects who gained power". It was the most boring thing she could imagine, which was why she knew he would love it.

"Thank you so much, I really wanted this book for a long time! But, it's so expensive, you shouldn't have -"

"Don't worry about it, Percy!"

Percy gave Jessica an even more boring book, which she pretended to love. It seemed to satisfy him, so she went with the flow.

She exchanged gifts with Ginny, and Bill, they had all given each other treats like Chocolate Cauldrons and such. Out of the corner of her eye, Jessica spotted Fred and George reaching for the present.

Their mouths were agape, as they very slowly opened the box. Jessica couldn't bear to look as their expression changed completely. They looked devasted. Their eyes switched towards Bill who pointed at Ginny and Jessica. They looked sad.

Jessica got up, cleared her throat, and shoved a box into their hands. It was the same box of all the pranks Hogsmede had ever released. But this time, when they opened it, it was filled with the original contents.

Before they could say anything, Jessica was not there anymore

Jessica was an idiot. She knew it, she knew that she had a soft spot for the twins, and she knew she couldn't bear to play such a cruel prank on them. So she discreetly got them a real set of pranks. She was such an idiot, she couldn't even play a prank on somebody.

Her mood lightened when she saw a familiar owl, carrying two letters and packages. She unfolded the first letter, which was from Remus. She read it with a smile on her face.

Dear Jessica,

Padfoot and I have been having a good time at Hogwarts, not as good as it would've been with you, but good enough. The feast was just as amazing as I remembered it to be, and I managed to sneak some food off to Padfoot.

Anways, about your gift, I absolutely love it. It's definitely on the top list of all the gifts I've ever gotten. You don't know how much it means to me, I love it.

I know what a hard turn life takes once you come to be of age, which you will be soon, and I know that you've been stressing yourself out, all with the O.W.Ls, Padfoot and everything.

I've planned to give you this for a very long time once you're ready, and now's the time. This book belonged to your mother. She loved reading as much as the next person, and she decided one day to write her own book, about her life. I've never read it, I want to respect her privacy, but I'm sure she would have wanted you to have this.

Have a Merry Christmas,

Remus.

Jessica slowly unwrapped the present, and ran her finger tips over the leather. The small cracks in the cover were pleasant to her skin. There was a splotch of ink in the bottom right corner, but at the moment, even that seemed beautiful to Jessica.

Her mother had once held this.

Jessica opened the book, and slowly scanner through the first page. She carefully watched every loop and curve in the letters. Her mother wrote in cursive, just like Jessica. She had inherited the quality from her.

2nd September, 1973

Okay, so I had this idea to write this sort of story thing about my life, whose going to read it, but what the heck? It'll kill time.

So, yesterday's feast was as amazing as always, and Sirius was flirting with me as usual. I keep telling Lily what she's missing on, and to join us, Marauders, but no, she's going to keep hating on James. Yes, James is very annoying, but he's a nice guy.

Peter sneaked some sweets from the kitchen, we at them together alone. James always gobbled up the sweets first, so it was nice for just us two to eat them together. Later, I hanged out with Remus at the library, it was going good, until Sirius barged in and loudly starting declaring his undying love for me, so Madam Pince kicked us all out.

I can't wait for our first Hogsmede Weekend, we're planning on trying to get Firewhiskey from somewhere, but if we don't, we're just going to settle on Butterbeer.

Anyway, I'm really tired because of unpacking everything, so I'm going to turn in for the night. I'll write again tomorrow.

Jessica wasn't aware that she was crying until she saw a tear fall on the book, staining the yellow pages. She smiled, and hugged the book close to her chest, this was the best gift anyone could ever give her.

She opened the second pacakge, this one from Sirius. She unfolded the letter, and read it quickly.

Hey Jess,

So, wow, this is my first proper Christmas in many years. It's kind of weird now, to say the least, especially spending it with only one of the Marauders.

Moony told me you were spending Christmas with your boyfriends. If you were wondering, I totally approve. You have my permission, to date them. Don't listen to anything Remus says about dating, he's not one for taking risks. He's going to freak out even if you date at the age of fifty.

And about the gift, it's the first gift I received in many years, and I was a little not used to getting gifts, but the gift totally blew me off. I love it so much, it literally sums up my seven years at school, honestly. I love that you included Flower too, how did you know her nickname? Did Moony tell you?

Alright, so the gift I'm giving you is a little dusty and old but I think you'll like it. Just Engorgio it back to size. It's the only thing of your mother's that I managed to sneak with me, there, goodness knows how, I don't even remember properly how I did it.

So, anything I've asked and all, and all you want to tell me, make sure to save it for later, same's for Moony. We both want to hear everything in person. Don't bother writing back.

Love,

Padfoot

Jessica opened the badly wrapped package. Apparently, Jessica had not gotten her gift wrapping skills from her dad, she was pretty good at it actually. In it, was a puppet sized sweater. She engorgioed it back to it's original size.

It had a large print of the words, "Caniche loves Padfoot" across it. Jessica laughed aloud as she saw it. That was so adorable. She really admired Padfoot for giving it to her, goodness, it must be hard letting go of it.

She saw another owl dart in the room through the window, and drop a small package and letter on the table. Before Jessica could come closer, the owl had flown off, leaving only Jessica, the package and the letter.

She opened the letter, and saw the single sentence. Jessica suspiciously narrowed her eyes, at the message. The messages was not signed by anyone

Do not try to find who I am, just take it.

Jessica opened the small package. There was a small charm in it. It was formed in the form of a rose. Jessica's first thoughts darted off to her mother. Could this anonymous person be her mother's friend? Then why didn't he tell who he was.

The whole thing seemed sketchy. She kept the small charm in a jewellery she had with her. She was not as stupid as to wear it. It could have dark magic inflicted upon it. She decided that she would show it to Dumbledore when she went to Hogwarts.

The door suddenly bursted open. The battered old door was nearly rattled off his hinges. Jessica sprang up, and automatically got her wand out.

Standing in the doorway were Fred and George Weasley, Aiden Denswood and Natalie Denswood, each wearing a more sheepish grin than the last.
