xiii- proud
JESSICA WAS PRACTICALLY shaking with anger as she went back to her dormitory. She was greeted by Natalie who immediately started throwing herself at her best friend.
"Oh my god, Jess, are you alright? I didn't think you would ever come back after what happened in DADA!"
Snape suspected something. He definitely suspected that something was up. Dumbledore had shown no concern about the matter at all but that wasn't enough to convince Snape to let the matter go. He would do a lot of snooping and she was sure he would do everything in her power to get evidences against her.
He would also want to frame Remus. He had several reasons for that actually. He was the best friend of his biggest enemies. And though that was an old high school rivalry, Snape, she was sure, would never let it go. He hated James and Sirius, so naturally, he hated Remus too. And the fact that Remus was a Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, the job that Snape had always been after but never succeeded in getting, added to the general factor of him hating Remus, and thus, the desire to frame him in the whole, Sirius Black situation, as well as Jessica.
She didn't expect Padfoot to be angry, not at her at least. He would probably be mad at Snape for insulting him. Sometimes, she wondered how she was so different from him. He was a complete idiot. True, he was her dad, but still. He acted like a total kid.
She wondered all the time honestly, who would marry him? Who was her mother? Was she even married to her father? Was she even alive? Not likely, or she would be living with her, not Remus, not that she minded it though. Was her mother a good person or bad person? What did she look like? Did she go to Hogwarts? If so, which house was she in? Was she even a witch? If so, what was her magical heritage? She knew that Sirius was a Pure-blood, but Jessica didn't even know her own magical heritage, let alone her mothers'.
She wondered why no one ever talked about her mother. Whenever she brought it up in front of Remus, he avoided the topic. But, he used to avoid Sirius' topic too. Maybe it just pains Remus to think back on the times.
She made up her mind to force either Padfoot or Remus to answer some questions about her mother. Preferably Remus, though, she didn't want to pressure Sirius too much yet. Even if she would have to wait another few days to ask him since today was the full moon. He would probably explain better than Padfoot. And she would be scared dead that someone would walk up on them. It was always dangerous for Padfoot to transform in Hogwarts. What if after the Snape, incident, she was being watched?
"Group meeting Natalie." Jessica said, "You get the twins, and I'll get Aiden and Padfoot, to the Room or Requirement now."
Jessica went outside to the Common Room and cornered Padfoot. She put him on a leash, and led him outside. She kept getting weird glances from the girls and most of them were whispering about the Snape incident.
Aiden was in the library, chatting up with Cedric Diggory, "Hey, Jessica, what happened after you went to Dumbledore's office —"
Jessica gave Diggory a small smile which he returned, before taking Aiden firmly by the collar and dragging him out.
"Ow, ow, ow! Jessica stop! I'll come myself! Jessica, let the hell go!"
Was this step to grab Aiden by the collar necessary? No. Was it mildly amusing and fun? Yes. So Jessica did it. And of course, we've got to add the reason that the Blacks like to do the most extra things ever.
Jessica walked to the seventh floor with Aiden and Padfoot with her head held up high, ignoring all the points, the looks, the whispers, scattered all across the school like cheap perfume. By now, Padfoot had noticed that something was up, and he was trotting less happily. Aiden looked grim, and kept asking her to tell him what happened already.
Jessica knew that it would be only little time that the word would reach the staff and Remus would be worried. Not today though. Today he would be busy. She hadn't meant to came Snape a hint but he had a way of getting on every single one of his nerves and making her blood boil.
She was still worried that Snape was the one making the Wolfsbane for Remus. The She hoped that tonight would be a fairly easy moon. She hated it when Remus got injured because of his own lycanthropy.
And she hated herself because she couldn't do anything to stop it.
"Alright, what's up Jessica?" George asked, "What happened after you followed Snape out of the class and why wasn't Remus here today?"
"Yeah Jessica, what's up?" Sirius asked mockingly, "Won't even tell your freaking father first, huh? —"
"Now I see where Jessica gets her dramatics from." Aiden said, rubbing his neck, from where Jessica had grabbed his collar.
"Snape knows there's something up. He thinks I'm secretly keeping contact with you, and Remus is involved." Jessica said, "but that's ridiculous. He's only pulling Remus along because he hates him."
"And how do you know that and say it with such confidence?" Natalie asked, and Sirius nodded confused.
"Well . . . Aiden is a Legilimens, right? Well, he's teaching me Legelimency and Occlumency, so I can block my mind from Snape." Jessica explained.
"That's genius, but still doesn't explain why you know that Snape hates Remus." Natalie said.
"I may have looked into Remus, mind to clear a doubt or two." Aiden admitted.
"You what?" Sirius exclaimed, "Don't do that! There could be some serious mature images in there!"
"Padfoot, what are you talking about?" Jessica asked slowly.
Sirius grinned, "Well Jessica, with a handsome face like Remus', do you think he remained single throughout his time at Hogwarts? There was this very nice girl called —"
"I don't need to know!" Jessica shouted, covering her ears.
Sirius chuckled, but then his expression grew serious, "Alright so what made you think that Snape is suspicious?"
"He told Dumbledore of his suspicions." Jessica told him.
"What did Dumbledore say in response?" George asked.
"Dumbledore asked me if this was true. I said it wasn't." Jessica shrugged, "so he left it at that."
Sirius chuckled, "Well done, Jessica!"
Fred grinned, "We're impressed! You're getting good at lying, if you fooled Dumbledore!"
"We don't know if I really fooled him. He doesn't miss a trick. Maybe he's just pretending he believes me until it's the right moment." Jessica said gravely.
"Well, what matters is that we can rest for now." Sirius said.
"You mean, you guys can rest. I have detention with Snape everyday until the end of the year. I called him Snivellus in class, he seemed really ticked off at that." Jessica said.
"You called Snape Snivellus?" Sirius gaped.
"Yeah, what about it?" Jessica asked, viewing Sirius' awestruck face with confusion.
"When we went to school, our nickname for Snape was Snivellus! He hated it! Oh god, I love you, Jessica. You're going to make me so proud!" Sirius roared with laughter.
Jessica was greeted, as she entered the Library later that day, by Madam Pince's piercing stare. The library was very crowded today, so Jessica took a seat next to Cedric Diggory, and Cho Chang who had four empty seats next to him.
"Hey!" Cho, the one year younger Ravenclaw said, "You're Jessica Black aren't you? I've heard great things about you."
"Oh really?" Jessica mused, "I thought the only reason I was popular around here was either because of my last name or my enmity with Professor Snape."
Cho laughed, "Well, that too, but you're popular through the teachers too. I've heard you're amazing at Defence Against the Dark Arts, Charms, Astronomy, Herbology — well, most subjects, other than Potions."
Jessica chuckled, "Well, you know the reason for that."
Cho grinned, and Cedric spoke up, "So, how does it feel? Having your uncle be your Professor?"
Jessica shrugged, "Remus isn't really a voucher for favouritism. It"s ordinary, I guess."
"Well, honestly, he's one of the best teachers we've got so far, no one can deny that." Cho said.
"Of course." Jessica agreed, "Last year's was one of the worst. Professor Lockhart was a total idiot and fraud."
Cedric nodded, "And Professor Quirrel had You know who at the back of his head!"
"Professor Gigwatch hardly spoke two words the entire year." Cho said.
"But Professor Grath was honestly amazing." Cedric said, "Not as amazing as Professor Lupin, maybe, but she was great."
"Of course you think she's great, half the school had a crush on her." Cho laughed, "but really, she was a great teacher."
"Not to mention, really really hot." Jessica chuckled.
There was a moment of silence before Jessica asked, "Are you two dating, by the way?"
Cedric shrugged, and exchanged a glance with Cho, "I guess, yeah. We just started seeing each other last week."
"Oh, I see." Jessica said.
"Well, I have Quidditch Practice in an hour. I better get going. Nice to see you, Jessica!" Cho called out, before grabbing her bag and leaving.
"And I said I'd meet up with Aiden." Cedric said, giving Jessica a small smile.
"You two are sure becoming friends, aren't you?" Jessica asked. She had seen Aiden with him this morning too.
Cedric shrugged, "He's a nice guy."
Soon, Jessica was joined by two familiar faces, who set their books, and took place on the seats next to her.
"Have you finally managed to turn them like you?" Jessica asked Hermione Granger, as she came along with Harry and Ron, "how did you get them to come to the Library?"
"She didn't pull us along," Harry said "we have Snape's essay tomorrow."
"The old git gave us a whole nine foot essay, can you believe that?" Ron groaned.
"Well," Jessica said, "you know, since I'm older than you, I should tell you guys to respect your elders and be all respectful towards Snape and call him Professor and all that, but I really hate him just as much if not much more than you lot, so I'm gonna agree with you that he's a git."
"We heard you called Snape a overgrown bat!" Ron said only to be elbowed in the arm reprovingly by Hermione's elbow.
Jessica chuckled, "It's fine, Hermione. He took about hundred points off of Gryffindor for punishment, not to mention serving detention with him for the rest of the year, but to be honest, it was worth it. Insulting him in front of the entire clas,s it was definitely worth it."
"Wicked." Ron gaped admiringly at Jessica.
Harry grinned, "Everyone's admiring you for it, you know. No one's even angry that you got points off of Gryffindor."
"It was Fred and George's dream you know, to say all that you've said to Snape's face." Ron added as an afterthought
