vi- pain is punishment enough

"SO, YOU REALLY EXPECT me to believe that at the last moment, you switched the position of Secret Keeper with Peter Pettigrew, and thus you didn't betray Lily and James?" Jessica asked.

"Yeah, pretty much." Sirius said.

"Listen, dude." Jessica poked her wand at Sirius, "I don't know you that much, nor did I know my mom, so I kind of don't know how dumb you are to think I would ever believe that. Because, I certainly didn't inherit your dumbness for one thing."

"I swear, I'm not lying." Sirius said.

Jessica snorted, "And my arse shits candy."

"Does it?" Sirius raised his eyebrow.

"Ew, no. You idiot." Jessica said.

"Jessica, you do realise how weird it would be, if we were to tell Professor Dumbledore that you were talking with Sirius Black about arses and candy?" Natalie said.

"Shut up, Nat," Jessica turned to Sirius, "so, you say that Pettigrew is guilty. How can I be sure of that? If he was guilty, why's he dead, and you alive?"

"That rat's not dead," Sirius growled, "He's alive and about!"

"Nonsense," I snorted.

"Didn't you ever think why the Dementors never affected me? How I'm still sane?" Sirius asked.

"Who said you were sane?"

"Okay, well at least I remember my name. The truth is, I'm a animagus." Sirius said.

"You can't be one, all the animagi are registered at the Ministry, and surprise surprise, your name isn't there, buddy."

"Then how can I do this?" he asked. His body disappeared, and instead, in front of her was a black large dog.

A large dog. The portrait of the fat lady had a large dog's paw prints

"So you can turn into a dog, what has this to do with Pettigrew?" Jessica asked.

Sirius transformed back into his human form, "what it has to do with him, is that he was an unregistered animagus too. And he, is still hiding in his animagus form, out here, at Hogwarts."

Jessica snorted, "And what appearance does he take, a pigeons'?"

"In fact, he takes a rat's form, giving a clue to you of his treachery: rat's are never loyal."

"What if this is all some bullshit made up?"

"I'll show you Pettigrew. I'll show him to you." Sirius mumbled under his breath, "oh only if I had the Marauders map or —"

"The Marauders Map?" George spoke up, "What does that to do with all this?.

"You know about the Marauders Map?" Sirius asked.

"The question is, how do you know about it?"

"I know because I made the map along with my friends." Sirius said.

"What — really? What was your nickname?"

"He's fooling you, George." Jessica said calmly.

"If he tells us his nickname, he's not messing around." Fred said, "Go on, what is it?"

"Messrs Padfoot."

"OH MY GOD! WE ARE IN THE PRESENCE OF A MARAUDER RIGHT NOW, AHHHHH!"

"George —"

"I CAN'T BELIVE SIRIUS BLACK IS A MARAUDER!"

"Fred, would you stop —"

"JESSICA, YOU ARE THE DAUGHTER OF A MARAUDER, YOU'RE SO LUCKY!"

"Might I remind you," Jessica said irritably, "I still have some questions."

"Ah, yes of course. Just hand me the map, and ai'll show you." Sirius said, and Fred and George handed him the map, "can I borrow your wand to open this map?"

Jessica laughed, "I'm not coming in your trap, that fast," she pointed her own wand at the map herself, "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good."

Jessica thought that she saw tears well up in Sirius, eyes as the map opened, but he turned away, so she didn't know. She heard hum mumbling to himself as he searched the map.

"Yes! I knew it! There it is!"

Jessica took the map sceptically, and nearly dropped it when she spotted the name Peter Pettigrew. She bit her lip in confusion.

"But then why did we never see it before?" Jessica asked.

"There's a reason for that." Sirius said, "When we made this map, like I told you we were animagi, we had to put thought in the fact that if someone came by this map, and if they knew the password for some reason, they would find out we were animagi, by seeing our names on the map, wondering at weird places with Moony — one of my other friends. So, we designed it so that only a person who knows that we're animagi could see us. You all didn't know that Pettigrew was an animagus until now, so you never saw him before."

"Wait . . . did I hear you correctly or did you say Moony?" Jessica asked.

"I — I did, Moony was my friend back at school. Remus Lupin." Sirius said, "You don't happen to know him, do you?"

"I live with him."

"You do?" Sirius' face lightened up, "Oh! Does Harry live with you too, then?"

"Harry? No, he lives with the Dursleys." Fred said.

Sirius' face darkened, "Those nasty jerks."

"Okay, so, let's say you're innocent. But why didn't you escape for the last twelve years? Why only now?"

"Because of this." Sirius handed her a newspaper, with the Weasleys from when they went to Egypt, along with Ron's rat, Scabbers.

"I can't believe this," Fred mumbled, "Sirius Black is Padfoot. Remus Lupin is Moony. Harry's dad is Prongs. Scabbers is Wormtail. Wait, who's Caniche then?"

Sirius turned away and pretended not to hear, "We used to say that we would become legends because of the map, but honestly, wow." Sirius laughed.

"So, what's your plan then? If you want to kill Peter, because he honestly deserves it." Jessica said.

"I've devices a brilliant plan," said Sirius proudly, "But we need Remus' help in it."

"How so?"

"Because you need your guardian's permission to get a pet." Sirius replied.

"A pet — wait I get it!"

"We don't." said Fred and George.

"Listen carefully," said Sirius, "You guys are fifth years, right? So you're allowed to go to Hogsmede. I want you to come to the Three Broomsticks on your next Hogsmede weekend, and get me from there, I'll be waiting in my dog form. Back at school, you'll introduce me as your new pet. But you need Remus' permission, so tell him everything, alright?"

"Alright," Jessica said, "and Sirius — I — wait what should I call you?"

Sirius turned slightly red, "Whatever you want, I guess. Sirius, if you want, or dad. But when you keep me as a pet, you can call me Padfoot or Snuffles."

"Padfoot." Fred and George said immediately.

"I kind of like Snuffles." Natalie said, and Aiden agreed.

"Call him whatever you want." Jessica said, "A pet can have multiple names."

Sirius playfully glared at her, "Alright then, I should be off for now."

"Okay then, and the next Hogsmede weekend is this Satuarday." George said.

"Okay, see you lot then."

"This is so weird. I'm talking to Sirius Black." Aiden mumbled.

"True, that." Natalie mused.

"Jessica Black! Natalie Denswood! Aiden Blake! Fred and George Weasley! Follow me to my office!"

"Shit!" all the five kids said together.

"Running away from the castle at times like this, when Sirius Black is on the loose? I expected more from you!" Professor Mcgonagall scolded, "You could have been killed! Right after that dangerous serial killer was supposedly in the castle?"

Jessica sprang up, now that she knew the truth, her anger getting the better of her. "Take that back!" She shouted.

Professor McGonagall widened her eyes, at the girl's indignant behaviour all of a sudden, at a thing like such.

"I'm sorry?" McGonagall said.

"He's not a murderer!" She shouted.

"Jessica." Came a weak voice as the door of McGonagall's study opened "Let it go." It begged."

"He's not a killer." Aiden agreed.

"What has gotten into you kids?" Mcgonagall asked.

Dumbledore entered the office, saving the kids from responding to the professor, followed closely by a angry looking Snape.

"How could you go frilly frolicking around the castle with a murderer on the loose? Honestly, Black, I think you've inherited your brains from that murderer of that father you have."

At those words, Jessica lost it. She jumped off of the chair and starting charging towards Snape. Remus rushed forward and took the girl in his arms.

"HOW DARE YOU?!" Jessica exclaimed as loud as her voice allowed her to scream "YOU LITTLE —"

Remus gasped softly and covered her mouth. He knew Snape wouldn't let her live if she said anything she would regret. Jessica bit Remus' hands hard. Real hard. Remus backed off in shock. Her teeth marks prominent on his pale hand. He looked hurt. Jessica would later regret that move, but for now, she was focused on hexing the daylights out of Snape.

Jessica ripped her wand out of her cloak, and pointed it at Severus Snape's chest. Snape widened his eyes at the foolish little girl's great courage.

"Miss Black, Miss Denswood, Mr. Blake and Mr. and Mr. Weasley." Dumbledore said, far more calmly than even the most calm man in his place in the situation could get "Go to your dormitory."

Jessica glanced at Dumbledore, his discreetly pleading eyes, his kind face. And she couldn't disobey him. She just couldn't.

She hesitantly put her wand in her robes and shot one last death glare at Snape and then stormed off.

"Surely, Headmaster, she deserves some punishment for her irresponsible and disrespectful actions." Snape said, recovering his disposition.

"I think her pain is punishment enough, Severus." Came the calm reply

Severus opened his mouth to argue but then stopped at Dumbledore's words,

"Leave it Severus."

So he left it. And he left the office too. Dumbledore went too and so did Remus. Leaving McGonagall alone in her office where she sank down in her desk chair

"Poor girl . . . "

Jessica stormed into the Great Hall and Gryffindors whipped around to look at her but quickly looked away at Natalie Denswood's terrifying glare.

Her tear stained cheeks and puffy red eyes were a reasonable sign to show everyone that the she had been crying.

Without a word to anyone, she climbed into her sleeping bag and fell  asleep, or so everyone thought. Her eyes were closed but she was thinking. Thinking about how to explain to Remus. She had to do it early in the morning because in the afternoon she had to go to Hogsmede.

She saw her five friends exchanging worried glances with each other, as they got into their own sleeping bags.

She made a brain map on how to carry the conversation smoothly with Remus as to not break into tears, and without Remus thinking she'd gone cuckoo.

"Hey Remus! You know the guy you believed was a convicted murderer for the past 12 years? Yeah. He's innocent and he told me to carry out a plan!"

God. She had no idea how Remus would believe her. It would be a miracle if he did, really.

But then again, he was his friend, there would be some soft spot for Sirius in his heart which would tempt him to believe, , to believe that Sirius was innocent, to believe that the Sirius he knew would never murder his best friend. There was a chance.

But what if there wasn't? What if he didn't believe her? What if he believed that his friend indeed, was a murderer.

What if he believed this was all Sirius' plot to trap him? To trap Jessica? Wait. What if that's actually the truth? Don't be silly Jessica! He's your dad! He'd never do anything like that! Would he? No. He wouldn't! He would never ever lie to his only daughter! Or would he?

Okay that's it I need to sleep, Jessica decided as she closed her eyes and tried her best to drift off to sleep and not think. Not think about Remus. Sirius. What would happen tomorrow.
