Whiteclaw (The Clock) Part 1

Hey guys, how's it hanging? Hope you guys are enjoying this story! I can't believe that we reached 1.5k reads! Thanks so much everybody...

The end of this story is actually closer than you think, and my ideas on its ending are actually really awesome and interesting, but also dark. Mainly from here on, its going to be surrounding nearby Whiteclaw, and Shadow's perspectives, since majority of our main characters are, well....dead, except for Atlas and Thunder (Who isn't really a main character to me).

Within the next two chapters, we finally get to see the true power of the Clock, and what's going on with Whiteclaw's absence in the story. This is also the second time humans are teased in the story. Also, the clock will finally show its darkest powers of using fear against others to keep them in the clock forever, which is why Whiteclaw hasn't woken up yet. Shadow doesn't really remember what happened when he got out, but vice versa, it happened similarly, though he was pulled out in time, unlike Whiteclaw.

Hope you guys enjoy! And I hope you're hype for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's Trailer tomorrow! :D

"GAH!"

My eyes snapped open when I came to, and once again, the feeling of my own muscles finally flowered back into my system. My heart raced as I breathed hard, staring up at a strange flat ceiling above me. My back felt comfortable for some reason, as if I was lying upon flesh or something.

But things only got stranger from there.

I felt different.

As if I wasn't in my own body.

I could see with both eyes now, without a single dent or injury on my body.

My claws....they were flat and soft....like fleshy soft. Instead of scales, I felt skin rub against each other. They were flat, and within each.....finger...was some strange webbing that extended and closed. And....

Where's my tail? Where's my snout?! Where's my teeth!!!

I gasped, jerking myself upright, terrified out of my life.

Good, you're awake, the clock rumbled.

"Where...what....how the hell?" I spun around, feeling my strange soft neck twist around, "W-What did you do to me?! W-What the hell am I?"

Silence.

My eyes, they aren't even as sharp as before! What used to be my shout laid a sharp nose with two nostrils hidden underneath its triangle, and besides those were two plump cheeks. My face was flat! How was it flat?

There were some soft red-ish covers that laid upon my leg, and they felt warm and smooth. They were also gaudy on some parts, and blocked the cold from the air around me. I lifted my....hand into the air, then sniffed it.

Oil?

How do you feel? The clock's voice still remained inside me. But I was speechless. Why in the world would I look like this? What was this? What was I?

Human, the clock answered my thoughts, you're human.

"What's a human?" I frowned, seeing my shorted claws, now foggy and shiny squarish figures on my 5 fingers.

The ones who take over your world when all your species is gone.

I had strange floating things on my arm, not like feathers, but little strands of hair. They tickled a bit when I touched them, but changed feeling when I pulled at one in curiousity. I sighed, then looked around at my surrounds to get a better taste of the strange world.

I was in a cave....no...not a cave. Caves aren't perfectly square, I know that. There was a pyramid-shaped light nearby a smaller and colorful version of what the Countdown Clock supposed to look like, and interconnected with a black flexible stick into a hole in the wall. There were some flat materials all across the walls with the 'humans' smiling happily. Though I couldn't read what the words meant upon the pointed frames. Above me sat a huge spinning machine, with black wings on its outside and a blackened glass screw in its cups within. Other triangle shaped things flooded the walls, pointing in one direction, but each with a different type of word. The air smelled dusty, but fresh and sweet all around. Objects cluttered these two large boxes on top, and within laid lines of more material.

"Why am I here?" I asked.

To find the truth to your ongoing questions, The clock muttered, but like I said, Time is running out. My eyes settled back upon the strange clock, watching it blink once, then tranfer from time to a countdown of 15:00.

"You're timing me?!" I cried out, yanking away the soft covers, "What the-!" I jolted out of the double-decker bed, then thrusted my body down these rectangular rocks, bouncing all over the place to the wooden earth below. Why do humans like geometric shapes? They hurt!

I scrambled to my two flat feet, then glanced around, struggling to understand how to get the info I need.

Hurry up...

"Can't you at least help me?!" I growled, "I don't know what any of these things are!" I slid over to the wooden holders with these paper filled things inside, and yanked them out.

"I can't understand their language either!"

Fine... the clock grumbled, and before my eyes, the symbols changed to something I could understand, like clicks and growls turned into more symbols that were...seeable.

"Fantasy?" I frowned, throwing the hardcover away, "Robots? What in the world is a-"

You're going off topic...

"Sorry," I muttered, then tossed that other one in the other direction. The suddenly, my hand fell upon another hardcover. But this one said something rather promising than unrecognizable.

"Dinosaurs..." I yanked out the book after a few seconds of staring at it, then looked around at it. Surely enough, a Tyrannosaur was on the front, but its depiction of it was so off.

"Do these Humans know everything?" I asked the clock.

Silence.

"Okay then..." I opened the...book is what it's called, then laid my eyes upon the new pictures and symbols.

"Jurassic....Triassic....Cretaceous....Cretaceous!" My hand swung like a blur through the pages, until my skinny finger fell upon the word as a chapter.

"Cretaceous.....lasted 145 million years ago....to....66 million years?" I felt something hard hit me as I stared at the symbol 66, "66 million years. What happened then? It's been 66 million years...." I flipped to the next few pages, seeing similar dinosaurs like the ones I've hunted and seen. There were also ones that I've never seen though, but they looked pretty cool. Strangely enough, the word Deinonychus was in the book, and it pretty much analyzed everything that we were....which seemed very cringy and awful.

We don't look like that! I especially don't look like that! But other than that, everything seemed truthful. I chuckled a bit, then flipped to the next page.

And was greeted to a horrible sight.

"Why....the.....Dinosaurs....went...." I didn't finish, only gulped and covered my mouth. It was true.

Extinct.

"We never...there was no...we're..." I fumbled over the words as I stared at 'extinct' and trembled hard on the wooden floor, "We're dead?!" I shakily read along, breathing in the sadness and horror from within my own eyes.

"Eliminated 80% of all life Earth..." I looked around the room, noticing that the clock above was at the 10th minute. I had to hurry.

The extinction occurred from a 6-mile wide asteroid and hit Mexico. Minutes after the impact, it caused earthquakes and tsunamis and volcanoes to erupt. Days after, it turned some places into a blazing inferno, and some places into a new Ice Age. About a month after...

That is where we were.

A month after impact.

Or close to it.

I turned the page, seeing more of the worsening disaster in clearer view.

"All marine life disappeared. Storms swept many dinosaurs away, including flying ones into the abyss of the ocean. Yellowstone became a fiery-"

Wait.

That name....I remember that name! What is it about Yellowstone? Why was it a fiery pit? What happened?

Wasn't my friends and the clock in Yellowstone?

I flipped through the pages, only falling upon what happened after the death of my kind but I didn't care.

That page told me something horrific.

Something that I didn't even know.

The place we lived in was once a fiery pit of lava 66 million years ago after impact! I needed to know the truth. What was truly about to happen to me and amy friends if we stayed put in our current position?

My eyes flashed out the door of the room towards a glowing rectangular shape on a tall wooden stood nearby.

You're running out of time! The clock hissed as I scrambled to my feet, then rushed over to the glowing figure. As I sat upon the stool nearby it, I saw more symbols that symplified to my readings, but were engraved on square-like buttons.

This could help me find out about the place.

"Y-E-L-L-O-W-S-T-O-N-E" I spoke out loud, pressing each button that matched the symbol on the page. The screen turned white, then flashed into a new picture.

"Woah..." I gasped, then moved in closer as the page expanded with more info.

Yellowstone National Park is a wilderness recreation area atop a volcanic hot spot. Mostly in Wyoming, the park spreads into parts of Montana and Idaho too. Yellowstone features dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, lush forests, hot springs and gushing geysers, including its most famous, Old Faithful. My eyes widened.

We had geyers too.

So it really was Yellowstone!

But what this thing about a volcanic hot spot? I turned back to the keys, pressing more buttons.

"V-O-L-C-A-N-I-C" I pressed enter, seeing it load up. The clock in the room now said 5:00!

Oh no!

"Hurry up!" I hissed, pressing 'enter' a few more times, until it fully came back with a different page. I rushed through it. But there were things that didn't make sense. I next typed in volcano. And this one made my jaw dropped.

"Yellowstone is a......Supervolcano"

Crash!

I jerked my head to the side, hearing a glass-like material shatter in the room where the clock was. A soft groan, like darkness from the depths of hell sounded in my ears, automatically telling me that trouble was coming.

You're out of time Whiteclaw, The clock's voice spoke evilly. I heard another crash, which jumpstarted my joints, and I leaned out of the chair, busting into another room. There were strange objects there, but the one that grabbed my attention was the pointed silver rock, in a hold of wood. I snatched its handle, but then saw a similar stick nearby, the one I too was shot with. Yet I didn't know how it necessarily worked. Grabbing that too, I slipped out of the open room then thrusted my first weapon out, trembling in fear as I held the rock and edged towards the noise.

"Hello?" I cried out. But all I heard was silence and the distant swishing of the wind from a huge glass window. I took another step and rose the weapon to another angle, fearful beyond belief. My heart stopped for a second when the door of some closed room began to open paranormally, creaking so creepily it scared the life out of me. I lifted up the stone, staring at the door open wider and wider, showing me its vast darkness, like a mouth promising to swallow me whole.

My eyes widened as the door creaked louder, then struck its wallside, freezing silently in the corner. All that stood before me was darkness.

"What is this?" I whimpered, "Who's there?"

You know what you're greatest fear is Whiteclaw? The clock's voice twirled into a grin in my mind, I know what you're afraid of.

You tricked me into this place, I snarled in my mind, you did something to me!

You're not listening.

Why should I? I felt my heart grow heavy as a dark moan vibrated the walls of the room, and the shelter around me. I flexed my flimsy fingers onto the sharpened rock, knuckles turning whiter than snow, I'm not afraid of you, or ANYONE!

That's what you believe, The clock muttered, But I see a young Deinonychus just struggling to find his place in the world. A young dinosaur so despicable, he couldn't even keep his pack alive.

Shut up.

So stupid enough to never forgive the ones you hurt. The ones you got killed. Your own carelessness set them to their deaths. It was never Drexel or Blackclaw's fault that their dead. It was all you. Because all you cared about was your own survival-

Enough of this! I screamed, feeling pain boil inside. But even from my anger, I knew that some of the things he said were true. Blackclaw wouldn't have died if I just let him into my life. Drexel wouldn't have died unless I forgave him. Brownclaw wouldn't have died if I hadn't had left him hind with Amberclaw in the dark.

This was all my fault.

See? I can get into your head Whiteclaw. I can manipulate you. I can turn you against yourself. See, I know you're not afraid of death. But you are afraid of something.

I heard a growl, something so familiar that it made me lower my rock and stick from eye level. A blackened creature with red eyes, dinosaur for sure and Deinonychus, crawled out of the black room, sinking its claws into the wood on the earth, which instantly turned black like carbon. I backed up a bit as it moved in, then rose to its full height, my height in fact. But as I looked into its ruby eyes, I saw myself.

I saw myself staring right back at me.

The thin sharp rock slipped from my fingers clumsily in horror, then crashed onto the floor, wobbling a bit until it shuddered to a stop. I took a step back, my heartbeat bursting from my flat chest, and sweat rolling down my face. It bared its teeth at me for a few seconds as I backed up, then suddenly retreated into the darkness. I swallowed hard, grabbling for the stick in my back pocket in fear, then pointed it up in relation to my rock earlier. How does this thing work? I trembled, finding some button to press. Thankfully, there was one; some trigger beneath a small handle. A small hiss alerted me quick, and without thinking of how to work it, I yanked on the top of the stick, and pointed, splitting my tan fingers between the hole.

However, instead of an alternative me jumping out of the darkness, snake like smoke things sprung out at me, hissing and snarling, twirling around supernaturally.

"Son of a-" I shrieked, put my hand on the trigger, then pressed hard. I felt a jolt of power knock me backwards on the first strike, and a loud bang along with a light shot out at the creature. Another one followed, then another, when I then realized that my finger kept pressing onto the button at each split moment. It hurt like hell on each jolt, and I thought my hand went broke after three bangs went out. I stumbled backwards as more shots were fired, but even the tool used by the humans never defeated the horrific figurine approaching me. I ran out of bangs suddenly, then tossed the stick onto the floor. And sadly, I had to do the only thing I could do at this point, being a human for the time being: run.

I turned towards another opening door, watching the shadow snake towards me darkly. My stomach lurched me out of the trance, and quickly, I threw open the rectangular turner, then slammed it shut.

And then I found myself in some dimly-lit hallway.

Another thunderous roar from the door made me run once again, sliding into walls on sharp turns and barricading more doors that I passed, until I ran straight through another one into darkness. I skidding to a stop in the dark room and paused, out of breath and on my knees. The door slammed shut behind me, enclosing the darkness all around to deep black.

But they weren't knees anymore.

My fingers weren't fingers anymore.

I was back!

I felt relief flood into my soul as I glanced at my albino scales, and for the first time, I was proud to be me again. Black claws, sharpened teeth, and my toe claw tapping on the floor. My tail swirled around and flicked at me in solace. Thank goodness I was back.

But then again, I was not necessarily back.

Where could I be now?

I looked around, only seeing a darkness that clouded the world around me, and an old scent of dust and decay made my nose wrinkle. The ground was shaking as I walked around, which got me more confused of my whereabouts.

And then a light flickered on.

Then another.

And out loomed a huge Triceratops skull.

I jumped back in terror, retreating towards the door frightfully, then ceased to move another muscle as the huge skull stared at me. But as more lights danced on, more bones arrived into display.

Human display.

Loads of bones laid either racked or surrounded by some metal bandings. They all glowed evilly around me, and stared only forwards, dusted and old, but perfectly placed as if a dinosaur just died, or its flesh was slipped off with ease. I sniffed each bone as I moved, feeling more fear rise up in my skull. Another tremor rumbled through the earth again, raining dust and plaster from the ceiling above.

I wondered as a thought if that was the outside world, or perhaps the clock itself in present day time.

If I could only find a way to get there.

A huge barking roar sounded from the door, and immediately, I knew that the shadow monster thing of me was outside the gates of this place. Closing down upon me for its kill.

I snuck away from the view of the door, following a pathway of lights to some other rooms. I guessed that this was the carnivorous dinosaurs. And of course I was right.

Bones of sharp-toothed creatures stood tall and silent, jaws bent open and sockets empty in the air. There were small and large ones, one in which included a Troodon, the smartest raptor of all time....I guessed. I could argue that my kind was just as smart. I weaved around each exhibit, glancing up in awe at the towering statues of fossils, until my eyes flashed upon the bones of my own kind. There were two forms of my kind on the estranged display, one in which seemed to be a fake colorful and plastic stand, another which was an actual bone. My heart sank low as I recalled the recent deaths from the impact, remembering all those dinosaurs caught on the first wave, unlike me and my friends. They were probably the ones found by the humans, then showcased up here, trapped in their own bodily skulls for eternity. I bowed my head and sighed, shaking my head.

If there was a way to get out of this place, maybe I wouldn't have to end up like that too.

After a few minutes of looking around, I heard the sudden noise of exploding metal doors, and the shattering clanks of iron upon glass. My other self broke through.

Another wave of uneasiness spasmed in my calfs, and I jerked away into the nearest shadow, breathing harder and harder. Another tremor shock-waved through the floor, and I had to close my eyes as more dust rained down in the huge area. The click clacks of claws made my heart surge with more fear, and for many seconds, I feared that things wouldn't end well for me even if I got away from me.

What was stranger the fact that I was being hunted by a stupid clock.

I wish I had that stick thing again, I thought as I saw the shadow knock down some bones, just one more time! The clicks grew louder, and it snapped its jaws in a powerful pop, making me flinch in the darkness.

Please go away, I pleaded silently as I pushed my sight a few centimeters into the light to see my enemy, please just go kill something else worth hunting for. Another tremble vibrated the floor, and the bones in the room danced humorously, their teeth and ribs rattling like musical chimes. I pulled away, deeper into the shadows, hearing the clicks of the paranormal creature, and then it's terrifying hissing voice.

"Whiteclaw...." It growled, flicking its tongue out like a snake. I squeezed my eyes and clutched onto the iron hold harder, now knowing that there was no way to rid of my current fear. The creature stomped around, growling to himself, then spoke with fury right into the area, calling me out.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are!" He teased, twisting on his pivot foot to go opposite of me, "You can't hide forever." I stood still, eyes locked on the outside world, and slowly moved away. I slid my body over some more, unexpectant of a strange metallic object right nearby my claw. A soft clang sound, like the sound of tapping a hollow tree, echoed it's ears, and he smiled in glory. I inaudibly cursed, eyes widening more and more as his scent grew stronger.

"I can hear you young one," He growled, "I can hear you breathing your darkest breaths of fear. I can sense it!" I found myself on the other side of the wall, and it was only his shadow that I could follow below that told me his whereabouts. A faint sound, sniffing almost, told me he was in desperation to find me, and with a 'Garh," he turned away.

"Stop hiding you coward!" My shadow sneered, "Face your fear like a real Deinonychus would!" As his body flickered away from view, I took a deep breath of relief, then pulled away from the wall.

But it was obviously a trick move.

He knew where I was all along.

"GOTCHA!" He screeched, bounding at me with speed, cutting the air with his extended tail. I could only watch as his feet knocked me off the ground, right into mid-air for a few seconds, then leave me to plummet to the ground with a crash, sliding on the greased floor and ramming into a metal wall. The shadow of myself roared angrily, hissing and spitting like a madman, while I just winced at my bruised shoulder in pain. But I had to fight.

Or I'd die for sure

He roared at me again and before I knew it, we were both circling in the same pattern, the same hisses, the same thoughts.

I was fighting myself. The problem was that he knew me too well.

And I stood no chance against someone with the same strength, speed, attacks, and moves as I did. He grew closer and I backed up a bit, already remarking a flimsy notice in his mind; that I was still afraid of him. Both of us raptors screeched and roared at each other as we circled, our elongated curved claws scraping against the flat floor from time to time.

"Now it's time for you to face your fears Whiteclaw," My shadow taunted, "To feel what true pain is like."

"You are not me."

"I am you. Not in the flesh but certainly close. I know everything you think, everything you do. You can't escape me now, there's nowhere for you to run."

"Why are you doing this?" I asked, sliding my feet on the ground as we continually circled.

"I'm just giving you a test on everything you've learned in your life. Just consider it a death test." Abruptly, the Deinonychus charged and then leaped onto my back, without me even reacting. The weight of his landing barreled me into the side of a wall, and my head rang for a second from the impact. But still I didn't react quick enough. Because I knew that he just did a move that I'd always start out with. It bit down on my neck as I tried to dislodge myself, forcing blood to spill. A warm licking sensation dripped down my throat as I fought him off, and pain boiled on my spine. I was about to go offensive when he dashed towards me.

And quickly, I had to freestyle. I swung my tail like Shadow as hard as I could, and in surprise, my small and thin tail actually collided with the bottom of his jaws. His bottom jaw flew right, top fell right behind it, and soon his body followed to finish and crash into the floor. I and the darker self of me was stunned from the fall and failed to react. I grabbed him by the leg, piercing his functional speedy skill, but what followed from him was a bash to my head. I sailed backwards, feet tripping upon each other, then thudded onto my ribs, watching the world turn sideways. I groaned as I began to get up, but already was my shadow there, pushing me back down to my back. What followed next was fire ripping my whole body apart.

I saw his toe-claw jerk forwards and dig into my expose belly, deeper and deeper. And sadly, I could only scream in pain, thrashing violently to detach from the creature.

"You don't know what real pain is, do you Whiteclaw?!" He snarled, digging deeper into my flesh, then twisting his claw to carve a hole in my wound. I yelped and shrieked, squeezing my eyes shut, trembling violently as my vision clouded from the immense power from his puncture. He thankfully released his claws, but wrapped his jaws around my neck. Despite my thrashing and pulling, I was still thrown straight into the bones of the Deinonychus on display, splattering bones and nails all over the place. I crashed hard seconds later, knocking the wind straight out of me, then moaned as the pain increased. I somehow got to my feet but I never had time to strike a blow. He actually thought of the same more first on me. I blocked his first attempt with his toe claw, catch the second with my jaws and squeezed hard, but the third billowed straight into my chest. He sent a killer strike to my belly, opening up another deeper wound, then reared up his arm, descending it fast to strike a clean blow to my skull. My body slapped the floor with a thunderous crack, which I instantly knew broke one of my ribs.

I was screaming now, the pain now beyond excruciating and extreme.

My own blood stained the floor of the place, and wherever I went, drips of it led the shadow towards me, a simple trail I couldn't even stop making.

"Submit to your death!" The shadow roared a few feet away, as I weakly slipped back up to my feet. Wounds scarred me everywhere, turning my scales bright red and burning the sides of my eyes like sweat rolling down my face. My claw went to my belly, which I felt a lightly cut wound, which in turn bled, but never let loose ay organs.

But the agony was the intense pain that turned me against myself for now. Another hissing roar made my eyes roll up towards the smoked creature of me, and fear gripped me tighter and tighter. Yet somewhere inside me was a bit of confidence that seemingly soared out my mouth.

"I won't stop fighting," I winced, out of breath, "Even....if it kills me."

"So be it."

I saw the shadow take two steps, then jolt right at me. At the same time, the ground shook once more, and his body shifted sideways. What I wanted to happen was my jaws to wrap around his neck and break it. But instead, it caught his own shoulder arm, and I almost got pulled away with him. Its cries sounded like the screams of hawks, so devilish and evil, but painful to withstand in my mind. I pulled away from him as he tugged, and suddenly succeeded.

With his arm in my mouth.

A stump formed where the former arm was supposed to connect to, and more caterwauls vibrated the glass in the room. I gritted my teeth at the noise, and I could imagine relating this to claws rubbing against a wall; a wall of desperation and edges to jagged to fix themselves. The shrieking finally stopped, and his eyes flashed towards me, illuminating red.

"You're going to pay! You're ALL GOING TO PAY!" Before my very eyes, a new arm, like some kind of snake, grew out of his stump, flexing and twisting into a new claw. That arm still in my sharpened jaws just dropped out, and the sight silenced me, putting me under a spell of stutters. Another ground trembling roar, made the entire room wobble, which took my sights off the terrifying shadow. A force, like being punched in the gut knocked me backwards from his kick, straight through another twisted door into thin air. I hit a black ground first on my back, then flipped to my belly to catch the ground. But even so, in the darkness of the new area, my legs quickly went right over an unseen edge, and my entire body followed thereafter.

My claws were the last to slip away from the edge.

And I was falling.

I cried out as my stomach lurched, and my organs went disturbingly weightless, while my arms flew around in the space. It felt like forever as I fell, unknown as to what thriller presence be awaiting for me at the bottom. Seconds later, my spin slapped onto the cold surface of a pool of water.

And everything blacked out.
