Whiteclaw (Impact)
I couldn't sleep. Nothing. Couldn't even shut my eyes. Maybe its because I keep thinking. Or because my brothers were munching down a Brachiosaurus youngling carcass that seemed like the biggest feast of our hunts. I did take part in the action, smelling the prey and locating where it'd be, but I couldn't attack. I sort of lied about my condition, saying that my injuries weren't fully healed. But Blackclaw fell for it anyway. I haven't eaten a lot of the meat bestowed for my kind, and always felt sick whenever I saw the blood bubbling around my feet. I need a new tactic so I could get back into the action of being the true predator. But no matter how hard I try, I'm to afraid of myself. And thankfully I haven't shown my fear, not yet at least, to my pack members. Sky went out to go drink some water at a nearby riverbank a few miles away alone, and nobody really stopped her on her decision. Perhaps because she's so tough, and the only female of our pack. Anyways, I was laying silently in the cool shade of a concave hole in a rock, and wrapped my tail around for comfort. It was only then when the world changed in a flash. A large rumbling sound wobbled through the earth, before the ground began to quake, first being soft and agile, but grew as time passed. I laid on the ground, eyes popping open as the ground started to shake. My pack noticed it two, lifting their heads up from the meat they were eating to sense the coming danger from below.
"It's just an earthshake," Blackclaw looked down, placing his claws on the shaking ground, "It's nothing."
"You sure?" Amberclaw grew worried. And I'd be too, because it was still going strong, and increasing. The carcass was moving back and forth, making Razorclaw and Brownclaw stumble as they held onto the shaky ground. I laid still, feeling the ground shift, jolt, then wobble again. It was a few seconds later when a huge rip in the earth threw everybody standing to the ground. Like an explosion, a rippling power surged through the ground, making everything around us dance and bounce.
"Blackclaw!" I cried out, covering my head as dust and rock rained down on my body. My tail went up to keep balance as the earth shook harder and harder, the ground beneath my feet moving so strange and weird, it felt unnatural. And it was. A blinding light then came next on the horizon, as if the sun was now awakening. But it was dusk! Suddenly, the light drowned itself, and turned blue. Dark blue.
"Guys!" Brownclaw struggled to his two feet as the earth trembled, "What is that?!" I peered out of the quaking cave, only to get struck by a strong wind that shook the world around us. Everyone got blown backwards, struck right in the chest to knock the wind out of them. I collapsed onto the ground, panicked and in horror.
"What the-" I gasped, only to get struck by another wave of air that snapped the trees outside the cavern. I pulled myself to the outdoor world, only to stare at a horrifying sight. Like a wall of water, a tsunami wave, larger than I've ever seen was racing towards us, like a T-Rex, speeding towards the shoreline.
"Oh gosh," I whispered.
"RUN!" I heard Sky cried, suddenly appearing out of the forest and into the clearing where we laid, "RUN GUYS RUN!" Amberclaw bolted forwards first, before Brownclaw and Razorclaw followed. I wobbled to my shaky feet, only to get knocked down by a stronger jolt from the earth.
"Whiteclaw!" Blackclaw yelped. I saw the cave ceiling bounce violently, cracking and splitting, and with a leap of faith (as if attacking prey), I lunged forwards out of the way. Though I landed on my belly rather than my foot claws, I escaped the crumbling cave behind me. Blackclaw hauled me up to my feet as another tremble made me fall on my claws.
"What's that now?!" He cried.
"It's a Tsunami," Blackclaw muttered, backing up from the shoreline, "And it's.....huge." I caught a glimpse at some dinosaurs way beyond the shoreline, struggling to run to safety, and mere seconds from safety, get devoured by the tidal wave.
"Go, Go!" I hissed, shoving Blackclaw backwards, in the opposite direction of the wave. The ground shattered and cracked beneath our quick moving clawed feet as we sprinted inland to safety. But to my eyes, safety seemed far fetched from where we were. Other dinosaurs were running for their lives in the other direction, prey and predator alike, and the thought of survival seemed close to nill. We all tumbled down hill, slid through the forest trees, and dodged various obstacles, but the wave seemed to edge closer, and grow taller. Suddenly, a squeal of pain and horror made me slow down. I turned my eyes to see an ankylosaur upside down on its back, unable to flip over.
"Help me!" It cried, "Somebody!" A triceratops tried to help flip it over, but it wasn't completely strong enough. My run abruptly slowed to a halt, and Blackclaw and Brownclaw sensed it.
"Whiteclaw, c'mon! They can help themselves!" Blackclaw growled. But I couldn't move. Something was holding me back for some reason, something strong. Seconds later, I found myself running the other direction to the herbivores.
"WHITECLAW!" Blackclaw tried to chase me, but got caught in the crowd. I stumbled over to the dinosaurs, and both of them stared at me, ready for me to attack. But eyeing the Triceratops, and leaned my shoulder underneath the ankylosaur's shell, and lifted up with as much strength as possible.
"C'mon!" I cried to the Triceratops, bystanding at me and staring at the incoming tsunami. He nodded, then shoved up with his bony frilled skull. Surprisingly, we managed to help the ankylosaur get to its feet. The herbivores both stared at me in disbelief, before dipping their heads in thanks, and rushing to their families. I decided I needed to get back to mine. I began running into the crowd, when a dinosaur accidentally struck me to the ground from its chest. What happened turned my luck upside-down. Unable to see with my left eye, I never saw the herbivore's foot crushed down upon my leg, snapping it. I let out a roar of pain as my body violently flopped to the trembling earth. I squeezed my jaws tightly as the pain rushed throughout my soul.
"Agghh!!" I shrieked, then protected my head as tons of dinosaur feet stomped over me, some which nearly crushed me whole. I felt nauseous as the pain grew stronger, and struggled to limp to safety. Another foot struck me in the ribs, throwing me onto my back and into a tree. The world suddenly spun around me as I laid there, unable to feel or move.
"Help!" I roared out, dragging myself in front of a tree from the incoming dinosaurs. A dinosaur behind me, which I didn't see before, the same ankylosaur I helped earlier stopped short, staring at me and my injury. And something sparked in him, a prey and predator relationship. A promise to fulfill. The ground shook violently as tons of dinosaurs raced passed me from the tsunami, yet I couldn't get off the ground. I looked behind the tree, only to watch the wave strike inland, shattering the shoreline and its cliff counterpart, and swallow dinosaurs whole.
"Oh no," I whispered to myself, knowing that my chances of getting away were getting slimmer every second. The wave was closing in, from miles, to meters. I curled myself around my tail as my best line of defense, but it was a complete waste to take. It was already over for me. But suddenly, a shadow crossed over above me, and landed with a earth-shaking thump. The ankylosaur was over me, and its body was bent in a way that its lush unprotected belly covered me, while its powerful bony body stood in the tsunami's way as a blockage. My eyes were wide as the tsunami's crest began to fall down to the earth into a bone-shattering crash that busted through every tree, straight towards us.
"Wait!" I roared, realizing his chances, "You'll die! NO!" Seconds later, the wave struck. And everything went black.
