Alicea (7 days after)
Miraculously, we found the herd.
How miraculous?
Very miraculous.
I thought they were long gone from now. Long-necks, Therizinosaurus, Lufengosaurus, Nanyangosaurus, Maleevus, Mamenchisaurus, Oviraptors, and so much more. I was guessing they all were going to the same place as us.
Maybe.
I'm not so sure. The herbivores stared us with deep conviction and concern, and I feared that if we attacked, they'd attack too. And then strangely enough, we saw carnivores, all in a group, and some different. Me, Kai, and Thunder shared confused and wondrous faces to each other, and slowly, we met up with the other carnivores. I noticed some carnivores that I've never seen before, most in which were males, and some females. There was some Sinraptors, who were in turn pretty small compared to Thunder. In fact, I think he was the tallest and largest of them all. There was four Indosuchus and two Lythronax, that I've never heard or seen of before. Then, to the right of me was a Zhuchengtyrannus and her two younglings. She was about my height, though she had a tail a bit shorter than mine. She looked tired, but confident at the same time, and her younglings were on her back, sleeping. She had something white in her mouth other than her features that seemed to stand out. And I soon realized that I couldn't hold my questions to myself.
"You're a Zhuchengtyrannus..." I smiled friendly, "Haven't seen one of your kind before. I'm Alicea by the way."
"Neither have I seen yours either Tarbosaurus," The female grinned accepting my voice, "I'm Queen. Pleasure to meet you." I looked back at the egg. Somehow she was able to speak with the egg lodged perfectly still and unbreakable in her mouth.
"Yours?" I shifted my large head towards the egg. She nodded.
"My last one. Two young ones and one on the way. It's hard you know?" She shrugged, "Being alone,....caring for your own."
"Your husband died in the impact?" I asked as we walked. She looked at me and nodded.
"The first air blast wave just hit him. And he fell just like that...killed him from the inside out...."
"I'm sorry for that..." I clicked sadly, "I know how it feels. I didn't have a husband, not yet at least, but my friend George was with me. We both liked each other, but we never said we loved each other. Or at least I didn't think he'd say it."
"Well..." Queen stared straight ahead, "We have our wins, and we have our losses. But the important thing is that we're okay for now. Things won't get worse from there." She comforted. I dipped my head solemnly. She did have a point to things.
"Why don't we eat something? We're all just avoiding the-"
"That's for when we find somewhere to live," the Zhuchengtyrannus hushed me quickly, "We're all trying to get somewhere before chaos rules out. If we can find some valley or something green and untouched, we're allowed to resume our old practices, hunting, mating, and all."
"That makes sense."
"But," She hesitated, "I don't know if there is such a place being untouched. Everything's covered in fire, dust, snow, death, and ash."
"I believe you," I agreed, "Not a lot of life is left to correspond with."
"Because we're all going extinct already," Queen cooed, "I haven't seen my kind in 7 days. If there isn't anything left, then my kids..." She looked back at them snoring on her back, "They won't have a future."
"We'll get through this," I reassured, "Together." I saw joy and relief flash through her eyes towards my voice, and I felt passionate of my beliefs.
"Thanks Alicea-" She began when something roared out loudly. All the herbivores suddenly began to panic, making the carnivores grow worrisome. Me and Queen spun around, seeing them jump around wildly, squealing and roaring in fear.
"What's wrong with them?" The Sinraptor growled, "What are they afraid of?" As if something spooked the life out of them, they all scattered in various directions, forwards, backwards, to the side, all away from the volcano, which was a mile away. It was a few seconds later when the stampede stumbled to a stop, and all the herbivores vanished into a dead forest of burnt trees and smoke. All the carnivores were still however, grouped up, stunned and confused. I felt something nudge me, and looked to my left.
"Alicea," Queen hissed, "We need to go."
"What?"
"I know why they're running." the Zhuchengtyrannus muttered, "We need to go!"
"Wait!" I growled, "Why are they running? What are you talking about?" Suddenly, as if answering my question, a huge explosion rocked the world violently, throwing a blast wave into the air. I slid a bit to my left as the heart jumping blast from the volcano threw up tons of fire, rocks, and ash into the atmosphere. Pterodactyls up in the air got submerged in the acidic smoke, only to fall down dead from the sky itself. All the carnivores cried in horror as the volcano erupted slowly. Some of them immediately raced to where the herbivores fled towards, but some like me stayed put, glancing at the incredible sight. That's when a huge ground-shaking jolt vibrated the earth violently. I felt myself go off balance, noticing some carnivores who fell over to their sides, unable to get up. Another explosion ripped through the mountain itself, blowing its side off in a fiery glow, nuked by the sky itself. My eyes widened. Thunder looked at me and Kai, ot even surprised or scared, and roared angrily,
"I TOLD YOU FOOLS!! I TOLD YOU THAT THIS WOULD FREAKING HAPPEN!!"
"THUNDER SHUT-UP!!" Kai snapped back. Ugh males. Fireballs sprouted from the top of the mountain, smashing into the forests and the open world. Some more carnivores began to race away, but they were heading straight into the open world with no protection. Kai saw it too and cried out.
"Wait, STOP!" He cried, thundering after them. He yanked one Indosuchus back, just in time when a fireball slammed right in front of their feet. I saw Kai get thrown backwards, feet up into the air. Both carnivores jerked backwards into the ground with a trembling crash.
"Kai!" I cried out, but I already knew that he was fine. He got up angrily, hauling up the now, terrified and thankful Indosuchus with him.
"We're not freaking herbivores!" He growled out to the group, close to a curse word, "We need to get to a closed area, away from this volcano, before we all get smashed and melted!" The carnivores nodded, unable to say anything else. Kai rushed forwards, leading the group,
"This way! All of you!" I didn't know where he was going, but perhaps he did. And as always, he always found a solution. A huge cavern, shaking from the earthquake like jello laid before us. Some of the carnivores hesitated, since the cave was dark and difficult to see, like the Sinraptor who yelled out before, but Kai shoved them in anyway.
"Go, Go!" Thunder rushed in next, with Indosuchus and Lythronax behind him on his tail. Queen's younglings, Breeze and Melody were now officially awaken, hanging on for dear life on their mother's quaking spine.
"Go Queen!" I cried out, pushing her by her hindquarters into the cave. The ground quaked hard enough for both of us to stumble around like rag dolls, unable to walk forwards in a straight line. The carnivores, along with Kai, were way ahead of us, thundering away with speed.
"WAIT!" I roared, "WAIT!" It was harder for Queen to run with her babies on her back, and an egg in her mouth. The entrance behind me shook violently, then collapsed with power into the ground, submerging us in deep darkness. Thankfully, we could see a little, since we were carnivores. But then, the impossible happened. As we ran, a fireball thundered right into the ground, and right into the cave! I saw a bright light strike, illuminating the cave, and an explosion that threw me and Queen forwards onto the ground. Her two babies and her egg bounced away from her, and my jaw hit the ground hard, piercing my lips. I felt the taste of blood in my mouth, and a ringing noise blocking out everything else out as I laid there in pain. Eventually, I managed to get onto my feet. And that's when I saw Queen's three babies lay there, struggling to get up, except for the egg. My eyes widened.
"Queen! Your egg! Your babies!" I screeched. She spun around wide awake and cried out. I saw the ceiling bounce and crack, and I knew that this cave was coming down fast! I rushed to Breeze, shoving her forwards to her mother, who was now awake. I went for the egg next, picking her up in my jaws, and placed her on Queen's back. But then there was Melody. And the ceiling. I rushed over with speed, while Queen panicked, eyes wide and helpless to her own. I snatched the dinosaur, then stumbled back luckily, avoiding the crashing rocks.
"WE NEED TO GO!" I yowled, shoving the Zhuchengtyrannus forwards once again. She had the egg in her mouth once again, while I grasped onto Melody in my mouth with care, looked back at the falling cave, and continued to stomp away. As we began running again, something struck me hard on my back. Pain washed over my face, slowing my run. Queen looked back at me with worry, and continued forwards. Then something else caught my eye. And it haunted me more than ever.
"KAI!" I shrieked, seeing his body slumped over in rocks and debris. He was hit! There was some other bodies lying dead from the falling rocks, but this one shook me like the earthquake. I slithered to him and nudged him as the ground shook.
"Kai get up!" I cried, putting Melody on the ground, "C'mon!" He wasn't moving! He wasn't even breathing!
"Alicea! We gotta go!" Queen cried. I felt tears rush down my eyes as I stared at his corpse, "We can't stay here!" I moved back a bit, taking one long last look at my friend, who never got to see the promised land, picked Melody back up again, and thundered away in tears. My eyes were blurry from the salt as I ran, which made it more difficult to see. But I could see the ending. The exit. The brighter world outside the cave.
"We're gonna make it!" The Zhuchengtyrannus smiled with relief. She ran faster than me with confidence, and was quickly in the outside world.
"Alicea, c'mon!" she called, putting her egg and Breeze down. But something jinx her statement. Before I could reach the exit, a rock slammed right in front of me, stopping me hard. Then another one hit me. And another. I felt a huge rock crush my back and leg, and the weight made my knees quake. Melody cried out in horror as more of the cavern fell upon me. I struggled to take another step, when another larger weight fell upon me. And seconds later, I collapsed hard. Agonizing pain roared all over me as more rocks piled upon my own body. Another rock struck me on my neck as I tried to stand up, and knocked me down hard. This time, I felt as if my entire body was on fire. I tried to scream, but nothing came out. I heard Queen roar at me, though I didn't know what she said. Melody bounced out of my jaws to her side, unmoving. Blood sputtered from my throat and jaws, choking my breathing. Seconds later, everything went black. And my heart stopped beating.
