CHAPTER FIVE, rescue mission gone wrong

Alivia and Adult Adam went back home, finding Adam had locked himself in the garage. "Oh, come on." Adult Adam groans in annoyance. He notices that his younger self was looking through his stuff. "Hey, Adam. Get out of my stuff and open the door." Adam gave him the middle finger. "Put the drone down. It will kill the three of us." Adult Adam said, noticing the device his younger self now had. Hey, look, you lost one fight. I figured you'd be used to that by now."

Adam looks back at him with a hurt expression. "You coulda helped. You just stood there."

"You're so sensitive." Adult Adam mutters. "Hey, you had to lose that fight. You had to. Trust me."

Adam glances at his sister with hurt as well. "Same goes to you! You just let it happen. I thought you were gonna protect me."

"Hey, don't put the blame on her, alright?" Adult Adam cut in, stopping Alivia from saying anything. "You should've seen her after you left. She shoved Ray against the wall and threatened him good."

"Really?" Adam asked, raising his eyebrows.

"Yeah." Alivia nods with a smile. "No one beats my brother up and gets away with it."

"Look, you don't go from bein' you to bein' me without gettin' your a** kicked a lot, all the time." Adult Adam continues. He sits down on the steps, setting the stuff he bought at the pharmacy by him and Alivia sat by him. "I'm sorry if I went too far today. Shouldn't have done that."

Alivia turns to look behind them when she heard a thud against the door and saw her brother holding up a picture of a pretty dark skinned woman with black hair. "Who's this?" Adam asked.

"Who's who?" Adult Adam questioned, still facing the other way.

"Turn around and look, knucklehead." Alivia chuckled.

Adult Adam turns around, his eyes widening at seeing the picture. "Put that back." He stands up and Alivia follows his lead, wondering why he was acting this way about the picture. "You put that back."

"As soon as you tell me who she is." Adam said.

"That's my wife, Laura." Adult Adam confessed.

Alivia raises her eyebrows, her eyes lighting up a bit. "Wait, so I get a sister-in-law?"

"We have a wife?" Adam asked in surprise.

"No, we do not have a wife anymore." Adult Adam replied solemnly. He then picked up the stuff he bought and turned to walk away.

Later that night, Alivia was facetiming with her best friend, Aris and updating him on what has been going on. "Wait, so he has a wife?" Aris asked in surprise.

"Had a wife." Alivia corrects. She moves to sit in a crisscrossed position on her bed. "And I think she was the one who he was meant to save in 2018."

"Wow." Aris mumbles. "This all seems like it's out of a sci-fi movie."

"Right?" She agrees with a chuckle. "Oh, and also Adam got beat up by those two idiots again."

"Ray and Chuck?" Aris realizes, looking annoyed. "I hate those kids."

"Yeah, me too." Alivia nods. She smiles proudly. "But I threaten them to leave him alone with Adult Adam's help. I don't think they'll be messing with Adam again."

Aris looks at her with a bit of amusement at seeing how proud of herself she was for that and he smiles at her. "Good job, Liv. Thanks for updating me on this stuff. I swear, your life is way more exciting than mine."

"It's only that way 'cause the adult version of my brother crashed landed in my backyard. If that didn't happen my life would continue to be boring." Alivia chuckled.

"That's a lie." Aris tells her with a soft smile. Alivia could hear her mom calling him in the background. "I better go. I'll get a scolding if I'm late for dinner." He said with a small chuckle.

"Okay," Alivia nods. "I'll try to keep you updated on stuff." They both ended the call and then she got ready for bed and went to sleep.

****

The next day the trio sat at the kitchen island eating breakfast. Alivia watched as both Adams did the same thing at the same time. "Okay, stop that." She breaks the silence that filled the room. "It's creeping me out."

"So you came back for your wife, Laura?" Adam asked his older version.

"We're not getting into that." Adult Adam replied.

"Why not? We know about her now and you know we won't stop asking about her until you tell us." Alivia shrugged.

"Yeah, she's my wife too." Adam added.

"You know what? We should get into that." Adult Adam nodded.

"Thank you." Adam smiled.

"Met in the academy. She was twenty minutes late to the wrong classroom in the wrong building." Adult Adam explained.

Alivia chuckles. "Sounds like something I would do."

"I offered to walk her to the right one, and...Man, I was all in before we even made it outside." Adult Adam continues. "A couple years ago, she didn't come back from a jump. They told me her jet broke up on reentry, but she was the best pilot in the program. She wrote the book on reentry. Didn't make sense."

"And you were trying to get to 2018 'cause that's where she went before?" Adam realized.

Adult Adam nods. "Yeah."

"What was she doing there?" Adam questioned.

"I don't know." Adult Adam admits. "They changed the jump logs. Somebody was hidin' somethin'. Maybe she saw something Sorian didn't want her to see."

Alivia's eyes widen at the name Sorian and she knew her younger brother was surprised too because of the look on his face and the question he asked. "Wait, 'Sorian'? Maya Sorian, dad's partner? She was always so nice to us."

"Hmm." Adult Adam hums, taking a sip of his coffee and then setting the mug back on the kitchen island. "Yeah, trust me. She's no friend." He stood, grabbing his plate and started walking to the sink. He went to grab his younger version's plate, but Adam had stopped him.

"Nope." Adam pulled his plate back and set it on the kitchen island since he wasn't done yet.

"You done?" Adult Adam asked Alivia as he places his plate in the sink.

"Yeah, I am." Alivia nodded, sending him at thankful smile while she handed out the empty plate to him. He sent back a small one and placed it in the sink too.

"After dad died, she got rich off his tech. Bought all the right people. Next thing you know she has exclusive control over the most valuable resource on Earth, time." Adult Adam walked back over to grab his mug and then over to the counter to refill his mug with more coffee.

"Wait a minute. You're saying dad invented time travel?" Adam questioned, his eyes widening as he stared at his older self.

Alivia stares at Adult Adam with surprise. "What, no way! Our dad did that?" She never expected her dad to do that. It's hard to believe, but she does remember hearing some things from her dad when she was young and the older he got the more secretive he became and he barely told her or Adam anything anymore about his work. Now it makes sense why.

"Yeah. Not on purpose. The magnetic particle accelerator. Remember that?" Adult Adam inquired.

The two siblings nod in response. "He called it The Adam Project." Adam replied.

"Which I find not fair at all." Alivia chimes in with a pout. "Why didn't he call it The Adam and Alivia Project?"

Adult Adam chuckles a bit at her. "No idea, Liv. Sorry. We know he loved you though, never think that he didn't." He reassured her.

"I know." Alivia said softly, smiling a little. She knew how much her dad loved her, she just couldn't help but be a little (okay, maybe a lot) jealous about her dad not naming the project after both of his children. It's fine, though, she'll get over it. Hopefully.

"So what happened to Laura?" Adam asked as he continued to eat.

"Mmm. Well, I think your nice friend Maya had her killed." Adult Adam responded which caused Adam to stop eating and stare at him with shock. Alivia's eyes widened too, she was surprised at hearing this.

"What?" Adam questioned with surprise.

"Yeah." Adult Adam nods. "That's why I gotta get back to 2018 as soon as possible. The jet's almost ready. I'll lay low in the shed. I'll heal for a few more days until I can get a clean read and then fly out of your life."

"But going back to save her. Talking to me and Alivia. Everything you're doing right now just to rescue one person." Adam says, looking confused. Alivia turns her attention to Hawking when he suddenly whined and looked towards the door. She figured Adult Adam heard him because he looked over at Hawking with confusion. "You're changing the future. That's gotta be against the rules."

"You'll feel differently when you meet her." Adult Adam replies, setting the mug on the counter and grabs his bag off the table. He then set it on the kitchen island. "And when you lose her." He added, grabbing a device from his bag and putting it inside his jacket.

After noticing what he was doing, Adam looks at his older self with confusion. "What?"

Adult Adam shushes him, staring at the door with a nervous expression. "Grab that bag. Get ready to run."

Alivia didn't hesitate to get off the stool while Adam grabs the bag and stood by her. "Why? What's happening?"

"We're going that way. Be ready." Adult Adam didn't answer him and pointed towards the backyard.

Alivia started walking to the back door with Adam, sharing a nervous and confused look with him. Adult Adam then threw some kind of grenade at the door just as the door was burst down by people in dark suits with some kind of guns. The grenade went off, sending two people onto their back. After hearing a whooshing noise behind her, Alivia quickly stepped to the side, grabbing Adam's arm and pulling him with her as a person in the same dark suit and with the same weapon suddenly appeared behind them. Adult Adam ran at the person, tackling them through the glass window. The window breaks, glass shards falling on the floor while Adult Adam tackled the person to the ground and punched them. He grabbed the device he got from the inside of his jacket and hit the person once before turning it on and aiming it at the person's neck. Electricity crackled as it shot out the end of the device, making the person scream out in pain.

Alivia watches with wide eyes, she was a little shocked that her brother would do that to someone. Her thoughts were interrupted by her younger brother yelling, "Ali!" She turned to see another person in the same suit suddenly appeared behind her and she let out a yelp at suddenly seeing someone. Her instincts kicked in and she grabbed the person's arm, twisting it before throwing them over her shoulder and onto the ground.

"So glad I convinced mom to let me sign up for karate lessons." She muttered under her breath. When she heard the person groan in pain, she realized the person was still awake. She quickly snatched the weapon they had, hitting them in the head with the back of it, knocking the person unconscious.

"That was impressive, but you guys gotta move now!" Adult Adam shouts at the two. Alivia nodded in response, starting to follow Adam out the door, but she paused, hesitating if she should leave the gun she held, but then just decided to bring it with her. She figured she might need it. "Wow, this is heavy." She complained, trying to get a better grip on the gun. She didn't realize how heavy it would be. She continued running with Adam following her, not noticing the look of admiration her brother sent her way as she had tossed the person on the ground.

Meanwhile, Adult Adam was fighting with multiple people who kept appearing out of thin air. That was something Alivia and Adam still didn't understand how it happened. "How are they doing that?!" She exclaims, her eyes widening at watching the people appear and disappear. "Wait, kinda jealous. I wanna teleport." She muttered, her eyes still widened with shock and now with a bit of an awestruck look in her eyes as well.

As Alivia and Adam got distracted watching Adult Adam fight, they hadn't realized another person appeared behind them, running at Adult Adam. Adam is pushed to the side when the person ran past him and Aliva, accidentally stumbling into Alivia who grabbed his arm and helped keep him steady. Adult Adam fought the one that ran at him, but as he did this another one appeared and knocked him on the ground.

"How do I work this thing?" Alivia mumbles to herself, glancing at the gun she held. She wanted to help him, but she didn't want to accidentally shoot him. She had never held a gun before. It was weird, but also cool. "What does this button do?" She questioned after finding the trigger and pressing it. Suddenly, a blast of electricity shot out, hitting one of the people Adult Adam were fighting. Alivia's eyes widened a little and she couldn't help the smile that formed on her lips. "Holy crap, that was awesome!" She shouted excitedly. Adam watched with surprise and admiration once again, staring at her with amazement.

Adult Adam had to do a double take as he realized what Alivia did, his eyes widening as he got up. "Wait, where'd you get that?"

"Stole it off that person who suddenly appeared behind me and tried to attack you. This is so cool...It's kinda heavy, but really cool." Alivia admits, glancing at the gun with a grin. She looks at Adult Adam hopefully. "Can I keep this?"

"How about we talk about that later and worry about getting out of here now." Adult Adam shakes his head, giving her an amused smile. "Good job though, that was sick."

Alivia couldn't help the huge smile that formed on her face at his words. "Stay behind me." Adult Adam said to her and his younger self as he stood in front of them when the other person that was left started walking towards him as another person appeared. He exhaled sharply and got into position.

"Don't you do it! Don't you do it, Reed!" The person on the right shouted, pointing at Adult Adam.

"Wanna see something cool?" Adult Adam inquired, pressing a button on the device he held. The device expanded, glowing purple at both ends.

"That's a lightsaber, dude." Adam noticed and Alivia couldn't help but snicker. It did look a lot like a lightsaber.

"Quit now." Adult Adam told him, twirling the device around before hitting the ground with it. A powerful electricity blast is sent at the two people, hitting them both and sending them to the ground.

"So cool." Alivia breathed out, her eyes wide and a wide smile still on her face while Adam stayed silent and had a shocked look on his face.

"Time to go. Let's go." Adult Adam ushered, beginning to run towards the forest and the younger version of himself and Alivia quickly followed him. When he suddenly stopped, the other two stopped as well and looked at him with confusion.

"What's wrong?" Alivia asked worriedly, tightening her grip on the gun and looking around in case one of those people suddenly popped up again. Adult Adam didn't say anything at first while he slowly turned around, staring at the sky with wide eyes. She followed his gaze, her eyes widening with disbelief and shock, the same look being on Adam's face as well as he held the bag.

"That's what's wrong." Adult Adam replied.

A ship appeared in the sky above the house, the bottom of it glowing bright blue. "Hello, Adam." Maya Sorian spoke through the speakers and Adult Adam sighed heavily, rolling his eyes as well. Alivia's eyes widen with surprise and confusion filled her as well as she saw Maya.

"Reed, don't move!"

Alivia turns to look in the direction when she heard a different voice, seeing a man walk towards them with two more people who had the dark suits and guns like she had. She steps forward slightly, standing in front of Adam protectively and she grips the gun. "Christos. They'll let anyone into this stream." Adult Adam remarked.

"Who names their kid Christos?" Alivia asks, furrowing her eyebrows. "Weird name." She murmured.

"Who's that?" Adam questioned, following Adult Adam as he began to walk towards the man named Christos and Alivia followed them as well.

"That's Christos. We were in the academy together. He's a decent pilot but a terrible person. He runs security for Sorian. Ouchie, with the face." Adult Adam points at an injury Christos had on his forehead and his cheek. "Did I do that?"

"God, I hope the boss lets me kill you." Christos shook his head, a look of annoyance shining in his eyes.

Adult Adam chuckles. "In fairness, though, you did shoot me first. On the bright side, your...Your face now matches your soul." Alivia couldn't help the snicker that left her lips at the comment.

"Anyone say you talk too much?" Christos inquired.

"All the time." Adam nodded.

"It's come up." Adult Adam responded.

"That's enough." Maya interrupts. "Adam, before this goes any further, let's just go home, please."

"Uh, no! Just..Just no." Adult Adam stammered, shaking his head. He wasn't leaving without Laura. He was going to save her one way or another. The urgency in his voice was palpable, and Alivia could see the determination burning in his eyes.

"So you're risking your own young life and your sister's young life over some paranoid delusion that I somehow killed Laura. I loved Laura. You were both like family to me. I would never have hurt her. I hate that it's come to this." Maya admits, glancing at the person who wore the same dark suits as the others. "Guns."

Alivia watches with worry as a big gun appears from the ship, aiming at her, Adam, and Adult Adam. "Christos, please escort Adam back to 2050."

"You're up." Adult Adam said to Christos.

"Yeah. Albright, drop the Mag-Cyl." Christos spoke, gesturing with a nod of his head to the device Adult Adam had.

"This?" Adult Adam held it up, pretending to look confused.

"Yeah." Christos replied.

"Yeah, okay." Adult Adam drops the device on the ground and looks back at Christos. "Wanna start low or go high?" A gasp left Alivia as she watched Christos punch Adult Adam in the face. He continued punching Adult Adam, punching him in the face, in the stomach. He then kicked him to the ground, ignoring Alivia's and Adam's protests. Alivia quickly aimed the gun she held at Christos, her finger pressing the trigger. Christos is sent flying back off Adult Adam while the other two people went for Alivia, but suddenly one by one they were knocked off their feet by electricity and landed on the ground, groaning in pain.

Alivia grew confused at this since she wasn't the one who shot at them. Then suddenly the ship got shot at, fire burning from it. "What the heck is happening?" She mumbled, noticing Adult Adam looking to the right with surprise as he slowly got up. She followed his gaze to see a dark-skinned woman heading their way with a gun that had been aimed at the ship. She wasn't alone though.

A dark-haired male walked behind her and was holding a large, heavy-looking gun that had been aimed at the two guards that fell in front of her. She had to admit he was good looking and her cheeks turned pink at the thought. She mentally scolded herself for thinking about this guy's looks at a time like this.

"You take the left, I take the right!" The woman ordered and the man nodded. They split up, going opposite ways. The woman began to shoot at the guards that were sent her way as Adult Adam regained his senses and used his device to knock back one of the guards into the wall of window in the house. He turned back to the woman, who looked like he was running at him. He opened his arms, thinking she was going to give him a hug. But instead she ran past him at a guard that suddenly appeared behind him and kicked him to the ground.

Alivia and her younger brother was too busy watching the scene to realize a guard had suddenly appeared behind them. "Watch out!" The man with the woman suddenly shouted, causing them to snap put of their daze. They're pushed out of the way as the man took their place, shooting at the guard and taking him down.

"Thanks." Alivia breathed out, her eyes widening.

"You're welcome." The man replies with a smile as he looks back at her. He had to do a double take as he realized she was Alivia's younger self. "Wow, I almost forgot how adorable you are." He commented.

"Wha-" Before she could say anything else, the man had pushed her behind him when another guard appeared in front of her and began to shoot at the person, sending him to the ground.

"That was hot." Alivia blurted out. She mentally slapped herself, her cheeks turning a dark red at the look the man gave her. He looked amused, his lips curved up into a smirk and his eyes shining with amusement.

"Oh, uh, I mean thanks for saving me." She stammered, looking anywhere but at him.

The man's smirk grew and he chuckles. "No problem. It was my pleasure."

"What is happening?!" Her younger brother shouted in disbelief when a guard Adult Adam had hit dissolved into thin air.

"Dying outside your fixed time is messy!" Adult Adam replied back.

"You think we understood what you just said?" Alivia yells back at him, her eyes wide and mouth open in disbelief and shock. "This is crazy. I can't believe any of this is happening." She muttered, gripping the gun tightly and looking around, still on high alert.

"What are you two doing here?" Adult Adam questioned as he looked at the man and the woman who had helped them fight the guards off.

"Saving your a**, honey." The woman replied.

"Yeah, a 'thank you' would've been nice." The man responded with a roll of his eyes.

"Behind you!" The woman shot at the guard behind Adult Adam the same time he shot at a guard that appeared behind her. Alivia and her brother had quickly ducked when Adult Adam had swung his weapon too close to them.

Alivia and Adam watched the scene in awe and surprise, still not able to believe any of this was happening. "I can't believe..." Adult Adam ducks after the woman gestures for him to do so and shot at a guard that was behind him. "I can't believe you're here."

They switch places as they continue to fight off guards. The man stayed in front of Alivia and her younger brother, shooting any guard appearing in front of them. He was surprised when Alivia started to join him, shooting the guard with him. He looked down at her with an impressed look, a smirk forming on his lips. She was just as impressive as the older Alivia.

"Hey, you okay?" He asked as she had stumbled a little, not used to the weight of the gun and how heavy it was.

"I'm fine, but this gun is super heavy." She complained with a huff.

"It's pretty impressive you can shoot that." The man admits. "It's pretty difficult to get the hang of." Her younger brother watches in awe and shock when the woman shot at a guard that appeared in front of him and watched it dissolve into thin air.

"That was awesome." Adam breathed out.

"And scary." Alivia chimes in. "Definitely not sleeping tonight." She shook her head and the man couldn't help but chuckle softly at her comment.

The group looked up at the sky when they saw the ship suddenly disappeared. "We should go." The woman suggested.

"Yep, let's go." Adult Adam agreed. He got the bag from his younger self and they all took off running. The man Alivia still didn't know was behind her and her younger brother as the woman led the group through the woods. They get to a car where Adult Adam ushered them in. Now Alivia was sitting between her younger brother and the man that helped them out.

Tires screech as the woman drove out onto the road. Cars honk at them when she drove in front of them. Alivia had to grip onto the bottom of her seat tightly with the gun in her lap so she would be okay. Even with her seatbelt buckled, she didn't feel safe.

The woman reaches over and held onto Adult Adam's hand. "I knew you would come someday. I just didn't know when." Alivia then realized who the woman was. It was Laura. Everything made so much sense now. But who was the man beside her? And why did he act like he knew her?

"Of course I came." Adult Adam assured her.

"Eyes on the road, please." His younger self nervously said.

"Yeah, eyes on the road." Alivia agreed, not wanting to die from a car accident. Her heart was racing, not just because they were going really fast, but because the man between her and her brother had his arms around them to help keep them steady. Her face felt like it was on fire from being this close to him and she couldn't understand why. He was just some guy. She barely knew him. But...Something familiar about him made her think she did know him, that she's met him before.

"They said they lit you up on reentry." Adult Adam continued.

"That's crap. I have the top reentry stats in the program." Laura scoffed.

Whenever she swerved the car, Adam let out a yell as he slid into the window. "Put your seatbelt on, kid." The man warned, leaning over to make sure the boy was buckled.

"It's not like it's gonna do anything." Adam argued.

"Better safe than sorry." Alivia retorted.

"Oh, yeah. Laura, this is...Me. And young Alivia." Adult Adam explained.

"Hi." His younger self greeted.

"Parallel contact, babe?" Laura asked in disbelief.

"Well, you always said you wished you met me earlier." Adult Adam shrugs. "And meeting young Alivia was just a bonus."

Alivia grins at that, her eyes sparkling. "Alright, can we maybe slow down a little bit now? There's no one even following us?" Her younger brother said nervously.

"Don't look back. Look up." Laura told him. Alivia and Adam looked up with surprise to find the ship following them.

Suddenly the ship aimed at them, but Laura swerved out of the way, barely missing it. "We gotta get off the road. We're too exposed out here." Adult Adam stated.

Laura continues to drive, narrowly swerving past another blast from the ship as she made it into the woods. Alivia yelped, tightening her grip on the bottom of her seat as she shut her eyes. She felt the man's arms tighten around her, pulling her closer to him. Her face was pressed against his chest, her eyes peeking up at him. His expression was calm, but he seemed nervous about what was happening. She could tell by the way his jaw was clenched, his eyes narrowing slightly and his lips pursed.

"Okay, baby, it's about to get busier." Adult Adam warned after noticing some guards coming out of the ship to go after them.

Alivia glances over her shoulder, her eyes widening at seeing them. "What the heck? Are they on hoverboards?" She exclaimed. It looked like the guards were on hoverboards, flying through the air after them as they kept trying to shoot at them.

Alivia yelps and her brother screams when suddenly the glass window by Adam got shot and glass shards fly everywhere. The man shielded both of them, making sure none of the glass got on them.

"What the f**k are those?" Her younger brother screamed.

"Just hold on tight." The man urged, his arm tightening around Alivia and she couldn't help but snuggle into his side, wanting to feel safe. She knew they were in the middle of a car chase and everything, but she felt so secure being this close to him. He didn't seem to mind though. If anything, he pulled her closer.

"Stop the car." Adult Adam suddenly said, earning shocked looks from the others.

"What?" Laura demanded.

"What?" His younger self asked in shock.

"Are you crazy?" Alivia exclaimed, looking up at him with wide eyes. He can't be serious! They would die if they stopped!

As Laura stopped the car, Alivia and Adam were thrown forward, being held back by their seatbelts and the man, who was holding onto them. She felt a small pain on her neck, but she ignored it. Her heart was racing with fear and she didn't know what the heck was going on. Adult Adam opens his door, hitting a guard coming by. The door gets pulled off by the hit, knocking the guard back. That stopped him, but the other one kept shooting at him. He ushered for Laura to turn around and get out of the woods. When a guard shot at the windshield, Adult Adam leaned over quickly, pulling out his weapon to cut a tree and stop the soldier after them from getting closer. That soldier gets hit with the now broken tree, giving them some extra time.

Alivia yelped along with her younger brother, her and her brother grabbing onto each other as the car is swung around while Laura turned the car around. Her back hit the seat roughly when Laura put her foot on the gas, zooming forward once again. The man had leaned over, reaching out an arm to help protect them better from the force of the car's sudden movement was still jarring. Alivia felt her heart pounding in her chest, a mix of fear and adrenaline surging through her veins. She glanced up at the man beside her, who was clearly unfazed by the chaos surrounding them.

"Who are you? How do you know Adam and Laura?" She managed to ask, her voice shaky.

"Who I am and how I know them isn't important right now. What is, is getting out of this alive." He replied, his tone serious but calm.

Alivia felt a rush of frustration. She was in the middle of a wild chase, and she needed answers. "But if we survive this, I'll need to know who you are." She insisted, trying to make sense of the whirlwind around them.

"When." He corrects her. "You'll find out," He promises, glancing at her briefly before focusing back on the road. His expression was intense, and Alivia sensed the urgency behind his words. "Just hold on tight and stay low. We're gonna be fine." He added, noticing her still tense form.

"I'll believe that when we're not being chased by some soldiers with alien gear on hoverboards." Alivia retorted with a roll of her eyes. He chuckled and nodded.

"Fair enough." He grins. "But you'll be okay. I'm not gonna let anything happen to you guys."

Alivia felt a warmth spread through her, and she couldn't help the small smile that tugged at her lips. "Thanks, but I'm not gonna go down without a fight. If anyone tries to hurt me or you guys I'm gonna give them h***."

"I don't doubt that for a second." The man smirked. She hadn't changed a bit. Her younger self was just as tough and feisty as the older Alivia.

"They're leaving." Her younger brother's confused voice gained her attention, causing her to glance out the back window and furrow her eyebrows with confusion at seeing the people chasing them were flying away.

"They're not leaving. They're regrouping." Laura explains. "We have to get off this road fast."

Alivia shares a confused look with her younger brother. "What road?"
