The Nightmare

I jolt awake, seeing the familiar cream walls that decorate my bedroom. I realised I went to bed in a wanseise and a simple pair of black socks, but now awake the wansesie is only half on and the socks scattered across my bed and floor.

That would be due to my countless sleepless nights, that occurred ever since that fatefulll incident 5 months ago.

That day not only did I lose my dignity and self-confidence, I also lost my right leg. The cracked parts of the car dug into my flesh, they couldn't take it out for risk of infection. Instead, they amputated my leg and replaced it with one prosthetic leg.

Now, many people would have given up, wallowed in their saddens, not me, I pushed my self, into becoming the man I once was. The doctors said it would take years for me to walk again properly, but I proved them wrong, a matter of months is all it took me.

I was soon back at work guiding my students to their future, their lifes as mature, grown, young men and women awaiting them.

Indeed, I was a secondary school teacher, that was welcomed and comforted by both staff and students when I came back to work with my newfound disability. But, before my accident, I was still a well liked teacher. In fact I was high in the teacher ranking, which of course was a good thing, because those with a low ranking had the level of misbehaviour go of the scales, homework deadlines beyond incomplete and those that were trouble for them, were no trouble for me.

Although, the worst thing about it all, was not the lost of my leg, my loss of confindence or my loss of pride, but the loss of my beloved wife, who did not die, but left when I needed her comfort and support the most. Those wedding vows "Till death do us part" meant nothing, but words to her.
