Prologue
Run.
That was the only thought passing through the girl's head as she fled from the only place where she had been safe.
Run faster.
She had to run. She had to get away. She had to survive.
Outrun them.
They were closing in. She was getting tired. They weren't.
I can't fight them.
They were too strong for her. There were too many of them.
I have to escape.
But she couldn't. They were faster than her. They would catch her soon enough.
Please...
Tears were streaming down the girl's face. The indisputable truth had hit her. She couldn't outrun them. She couldn't fight them. They were going to kill her.
I'm going to die.
One of the creatures grabbed her leg and she fell to the ground, a squeal of terror escaping her lips.
"Help!" she cried out. She knew that nobody would bother to help if they heard her, but she could still hope that someone would save her.
The sharp black claws wrapped around her ankle began dragging her towards one of the creatures. Its beady black eyes gleamed in the faint light of a street lamp, making the creature look even more sinister.
"Please..." she managed to say through her tears. "Don't kill me..."
The creature simply stared at her with a crooked smile on its face as the girl was dragged closer to it. It almost looked like it was laughing at her.
The girl was fading out of consciousness and her vision was blurring. The last thing she saw before her eyes closed was a flash of bright yellow light surrounding the creature.
