Lunch on the Roof

Writing, Math, and Gym passed by quickly. Kameko and I had chosen different activities, so after we finished gym and got upset at the girls with lockers next to us, I went to Art. Kameko headed to Social Studies, and after lunch, she would go to Theatre and I would navigate my way to Social Studies. After Lunch.

Lunch.

As I entered the art class, I gasped. Some of the girls stared at me. I chuckled nervously and slammed my books down on my desk, folding my arms over them. I placed my head on my arm-pillow and closed my eyes.

Lunch. I had forgotten about meeting Akemi-san on the roof at lunch.

I propped my elbows up and rested my chin on a hand-throne. The teacher was rambling on about people's scores and how they could have done better. At the end, she discussed an art contest coming up and how we would all submit a piece of art and we could be showcased and-

Finally the bell rang to signal lunch. I rushed out of the door and and accidentally ran into a girl with pink hair. The top book fell off and she caught it. With a smile, she ran to her blue-haired friend.

I darted down the hall, nearly colliding with Kameko. She grabbed my wrist to keep me from hitting the wall. She gave me a look and dragged me to the stairs. I realized that she had grabbed my bento box as well as her own.

Akemi sat at the top of the stairs, her pink ribbon looking familiar... I gasped. "Akemi-san, that pink-haired girl had a ribbon JUST like that," I pointed and she looked up from her sandwich. "Did- did you mug her?"

A look of sorrow graced her eyes, then darted away to elsewhere. She shoved the last chunk of sandwich in her mouth, and Kameko elbowed me as if to say that I ate like Akemi-San.

Kameko and I sat down across from her. According to Kame, I may not be a glutton, but when I get food, I sure eat like on.

I scarf my rice down as if to prove her point. I continue my earlier accusation through the stupidity of it. "It's just... It doesn't go with your style. The ribbon."

Akemi walks up to me calmly. I look her in the eye, believing that she will explain to me. Her arm raises and I feel a pain in my cheek.

She slaps me. Hard.

Kameko laughs so hard that she chokes on an orange piece. She coughed out a chunk and stood up. "So, why did you want us?" Kame asked. Akemi, whose hand was still in a defensive pose, sat, her face calming again. It felt like my cheek was turning pink, and the slap still stung sharply. I got back up, placing my hand on my left cheek.

"Well, I'd like to know who you are. Not you, Lucy Aiko, but you. You, K-Kameko. Kameko, right? I've never seen you before." Akemi stared at her as she spoke.

"Akemi-san, I've never seen you before the witch hunt. Who are you, and how do you know my name?" Akemi sighed and stood up. She turned and walked towards the stairs, until she suddenly stopped and turned.

"My name is Homura Akemi. And I get the feeling that you should start calling me Homura-San, not Akemi," And with that, she walked off.

Kameko and I ate on the roof in silence.
