Chapter One-Bark is Worse than Bite

Author's note: Yes, I'm making another story, don't judge me. I'm too imaginative for my own good... and I still have 5 other stories waiting to be published... anyways, I hope you enjoy! TURTLE, OUT!

Sans' eye-sockets slowly peeled apart. He looked around his surroundings, his head lazily bobbing as he viewed where he was. He appeared to be at his sentry post, but the last thing he had remembered was standing in the golden hallway.

He remembered the sickening smell of iron emitting from his own chest that the child had so easy cut through. He remembered how dizzying everything felt. The feeling of not just the physical pain, but also the pain of failing everyone he cared for, the woman behind the door, Undyne, Grillby, Alphys... his own brother. He failed them. He let the child win.

Sans cringed back at the memory, coiling in on himself. He had NEVER let that bloodthirsty thing win before. He had always been stronger, always been quicker, always had more wit. Had he really given up? no. He told himself. He wouldn't let himself believe that he'd give up on all of them, he couldn't let himself believe that.

He took in a deep breath, letting his rib-cage fill itself before deflating as he leaned into his chair, hearing the back of it groan under the pressure. He tried collecting his thoughts, and as he did, a nagging feeling became more and more present. He felt like something was wrong.

He slowly looked up, glancing around him. Everything seemed normal. Nothing seemed any different from the countless of other times he had woke at his sentry post. It was the same as-

His breath caught in his throat as the realization hit him.

Papyrus hadn't shown up yet.

He ALWAYS showed up by now.

A panic quickly began to boil in Sans, as he frantically shot up out of his chair. His throat felt constricted from the alarm, but he mustered out the force he needed to call out, "p-papyrus!?"

His eye-lights flicked around as he ran out in front of the post, "paps!?" He turned to where his brother usually came from, only to find no one there.

He felt himself tremble with dread, as he quickly jogged down the path. He found himself in the next area, his soul dropping to his stomach as he saw that Papyrus' cardboard-box sentry post was not there.

His small, thin fingers slowly brought themselves to his skull covering his mouth, as he slowly backed himself up into a tree. He felt himself collapse to the ground, his body quivering in fear. He just remained there, staring emptily at the spot his brother's play-along sentry post should be.

this shouldn't be happening. He thought to himself. this isn't right. where is he? what happened? what's going on? is he gone? will i never see him again-

The last thought made his magic stand on edge, dread seeping into the core of his soul. He froze in place, his eye-lights no longer lighting the voids of his eye-sockets.

He didn't want to believe that. He didn't want to believe his brother had been erased. He couldn't LIVE like that. He couldn't stand to live without his brother. If his brother was gone-

A thought entered the skeleton's mind that he hadn't ever truly considered as a reasonable option before. It had passed his mind before, but never had it actually appeared to be an option to consider.

He could just end himself.

Stop the pain. Stop the grief. If his brother truly was gone. He could just end it all, couldn't he?

He felt an empty laugh come from his chest, releasing some of the pain from the ache in his soul. The heaviness twisting in his core like the devil's grip, making knots in his love towards his sibling, twisting it until it nearly snapped from the pressure.

He felt himself begin to shake again as the thought pursued. After all, all he had was just one measly HP point. It wouldn't take much to end it. It wouldn't take much at all. Hell, he could even-

"YOU!" His train of thought was abruptly interrupted as he was ripped right off the ground, his front being clutched my a much taller canine monster.

Sans felt his bones become stiff as he felt the creature's claws dig right through the fabric of his shirt and piercing and scraping his collar bone that had been hidden under in.

The dog huffed in his face, the air he exhaled being visible due to the low temperature. Sans immediately recognized the monster as Doggo, but something felt... off about him. Sans tried to speak, only for the dog to scream at him once again.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING AWAY FROM YOUR POST? DO YOU WANT YOUR FUCKING BROTHER TO BLAME THE REST OF US FOR YOUR DAMN LAZINESS?" The dog sneered, spit flying at the skeleton's face.

Sans didn't care though, all that caught his ear was the mention of his brother, which sprung hope in the monster's core, "m-my brother-"

"YES, YOU'RE BROTHER, DUMBASS!" The dog growled, cutting off the skeleton. Even if he was cut off, the amount of relief that rushed through Sans' being was unimaginable. He would have been jumping for joy if he wasn't being painfully held by a mutt.

The dog then looked at Sans confused, causing the skeleton to stiffen even more as the dog uninviting buried his nose in the monster's chest, sniffing him.

Sans felt a bead of sweat form at his brow, both from his confusion to why Doggo was acting like this, and his discomfort of being sniffed like that. His voice was quiet under his tenseness, "what are you-"

Doggo, once again, didn't allow Sans to finish a statement, "Hey, wait a minute... you smell different." The dog squinted at Sans, then brought the skeleton closer so that their faces were nearly touching, making Sans crane his neck back. "You look different too."

Sans raised a brow-bone in confusion. what was he talking about?

The dog continued, "You don't smell like no mustard I've ever smelt before. And your eyes are all big and white, not red. And you ain't got no golden toother in." The dog squinted even harder, trying to make out other features.

The mutt then grabbed Sans by the neck, causing the skeleton to yip in surprise as the dog appeared to be feeling around for something, before saying, "Hey! Where the hell is your collar?!"

Sans looked at him in utter confusion, "my collar?"

The dog seemed to become even more aggravated than before, "YES, YOUR COLLAR, YOU FUCKING LOW-WIT! THE THING THAT YOUR BROTHER MAKES YOU WHERE! What did he finally disown your useless ass? Are you finally up for grabs?" A teasing smile slowly melted onto the monster's face, revealing his row of razor sharp teeth.

Sans looked at him with more panic than confusion now, "wh-what are you-"

The dog then let go of his neck, grabbing the skeleton's wrist and bringing the fabric of his hoodie closer for further examination, "Hm? You ain't even wearing your black hood? You're wearing some dumb-shit blue one? He really let you go, huh?"

"i-i don't know what you're-"

The dog's features suddenly became sadistic, a low, rough chuckle releasing from his core. A glow of magic began emitting from his paws. "Guess that means some free EXP for ol' Doggo, hm?" The dog licked his lips before slowly raising his paw to the skeleton. "Let's see how much you're worth, one-health?"

Sans' eye-lights vanished in fear as he watched the paw raise. His soul felt like is was trying to break out of his rib-cage. He had to get away. He couldn't teleport if the dog was holding him. Sans knew what he was about to do was going to hurt, but he had to do it to survive.

As the dog's hand began crashing down, Sans quickly kicked him in the chest, sending himself flying backwards and the dog yelping in pain.

Sans bit his tongue against an unholy scream that threatened to escape as he felt part of his collar bone snap off, the detached piece exploding into dust like it was nothing.

He watched the dog regain his composure, looking down at him. "Why you LITTLE-"

Sans felt his own blue magic surround his body, as he teleported himself to the first place he could think of.

Grillby's.
