*Chapter Twenty Three*

He could faintly hear Pit, the real Pit, talking upstairs.

"...I'm just so worried, he's been missing for three days."

"We're doing our best, Dad." Matthew almost cried at hearing his brother Ollie speak. "He just dis'peared without a trace."

Matthew ripped the key out of the door and left the house. First he had to get rid of this key.

His heavy steps gave way his location on the path, but he was too tired and in pain to care.

"It's almost surreal." he said out loud, his voice heavy with exhaustion. "This is the same path I went down to fight Vinny."

Lewis didn't respond, he was fast asleep and curled up in his arms.

"Good night, Lew." Matthew knew he was talking to a doll possessed by a spirit that was most likely older than him, but again, he was too tired to care.

Matthew stopped to place the doll in his bag so he could rest. Just as he stood up, leaving the bag on the ground momentarily, claws ripped into his back.

"I'll teach you to not cheat, boy." Alter Pit again!? "By devouring your soul."

"Hah, bitch, you can fucking try." Matthew moved his bag to the side, drawing out his scythe.

Alter Pit lunged, then let out a scream as the scythe's blade was buried in its snout. Its claws slashed at Matthew's face, then at his chest. Then stabbed into his stomach and ripped him open.

Blood spurted out of the wounds. Matthew fell back, losing his grip on the scythe.

"Any last words, anomaly?" Alter Pit growled, snapping its jaws above Matthew's face.

To its surprise, the boy pushed himself up with one arm. "Get to Del Taco..." he hissed. "They got this new thing called..." He gasped. "Fre sha voca do."

Then he changed. Skin became velvet, muscle became stuffing...

The plush monster, Matthew, ripped into Alter Pit's face with his large knifelike claws. The two began a bloody tussle of claws, teeth, and horrible cries of pain.

Out in another part of the forest, Ahaki was walking there, staring at a photo he had saved on his phone, a photo of Mattie with his siblings. He had given him his Instagram, and often made updates on his family. He also had a page where he sold flamethrower drones and other chaotic items, but that's beside the point. He had looked for Matthew since he went missing, and was determined not to give up.

He heard a horrible scream, off by the path.

Mattie? He wondered, racing off to investigate.

He hid behind a tree, watching the creature.
