Chapter Ten
When night fell and the house was asleep, Matthew snuck out of his plain, boring room and went downstairs. On his way down, he tripped over a small plush doll.
This wasn't the bunny doll he currently had in his bag. This doll was humanoid. Its plushy skin was peach colored, leaning more to pink on the color wheel. Although its hands were strangely colored like his, and the hairstyle was the same although the doll's hair was dark brown, the doll bore no resemblance to him. Its eyes, which together resembled a crazed glare, were pink and blue, with light eyelashes. It had a big smile on its face, marred only by a black line going down from the top to the bottom of the mouth suggesting a tooth gap. It had a purple vest with lavender stars on it, with white sleeves and black pants.
Against his better judgement, he picked up the doll and put it in his black backpack, next to the bunny doll he had to show Alter Pit what he had found the same day he first discovered that dimension.
Matthew began his journey down the hall, when he heard chatter in the living room.
"...you really wanna go, Will?" A girl's voice, high and lovely, but nothing Matthew would have liked to listen to.
"Shut up, Sam, my dad's asleep." Will snapped back.
Matthew crept closer to the living room, listening behind a wall.
"So? I'll fight you right now!" As he peered around the wall, he saw a blond girl balling her fists up and getting into an offensive stance. A smile played on her lips. Oddly enough, her caramel skin matched Norman's, as did her oval face shape and parallelogram shaped eyes.
She must have arrived after waking up, as she had on a big white shirt with sky blue pajama bottoms decorated with tiny yellow sheep.
"Come on, Sam, you always pick fights!" Sept was here, too?
"Shut up, nerd." Sam ran a few slim fingers through her short blond hair that just barely reached the nape of her neck. "Hey, Will, got any snacks?"
"Girl, you always asking for snacks." Matthew watched as his brother pulled out a bag of his crackers that he was saving for himself.
That little traitor.
Matthew calmly resisted the urge to bash Will's head in as he snuck away from the living room, searching for the little door. As he left, he could hear Sam faintly asking who's crackers those were.
He quietly snuck near the door, sighing with relief that the key was still there. But how? One of his siblings, if not Pit himself, would have noticed it.
Good thing they didn't. Matthew pulled on the key to open the door, and went in.
"Alter Pit?" he called as he came out the other side. "It's me, Matthew."
No answer. Matthew stood up and walked down the vibrant hall. Now he was starting to get scared.
"A-Alter Pit?" he called again, this time weakly.
He left the house, this close to crying his eyes out.
Then he felt someone hugging him tightly from behind him.
