His Friend, Not Mine
Song: Rescue- Lauren Daigle
Driving the car alone was a really nice feeling. I felt for once that I could go anywhere and no one would be able to stop me. So when I pulled up in the apartment complex, I knew it was wrong but I just had to see him. I get there and debate on whether I should call or just surprise him. I think I will just surprise him because then I will get to see his reaction. I love the way his eyes light up and that smile of his makes my heart go pitter-patter. I glance down at the time on my phone again. He should be home from work by now anyway.
I get out of the car and find the building number and then look over all the door numbers to find his. His of course is on the second floor. As I go up the steps, I get this really weird feeling that someone is possibly watching me. This place is not the best of place to rent from. Trash is thrown here and there, cigarette butts everywhere. A stray black cat jolts out in front of me and practically gives me a mini heart attack. I gasp for air and hold on tightly to the railing so that I wouldn't fall. When I get to his apartment I take a deep breath and collect myself. However when I knock on the door, some guy answers it. I look around confused, thinking that I might have gotten the wrong address or something because he told me that he lives all alone.
At first he looks a little annoyed that someone interrupted him but as he stares back at me a creepy smile forms on his face. "Can I help you gorgeous?"
"Uhm...I thought Zayden lived here...I must have the wrong apartment." I back up and look at the other numbers on the places beside this one thinking maybe I had read the numbers wrong.
"No...you're at the right place. I'm just a friend. He is at work. Should be home in a little while."
"Oh...I thought he got off at five."
"Yeah...I don't know maybe he had to stay over you know."
"Ok well! I'll just wait out in my car for him."
"Don't be crazy...you can wait in here." He steps over to the side so that I could easily walk in.
"That's alright." I turn to go back down the steps.
He comes all the way out of the apartment. "Seriously...you can wait in here he will be upset if seeing you waiting for him out in your car."
I contemplate what to do. Sit in there with some stranger or in my car, in the heat. How bad could he be? I mean he is friends with Zayden. So I guess it will be alright. I turn back around and go up the steps and into the apartment. He closes the door behind him but doesn't lock it. So that makes me feel a little better. I can't stand feeling trapped in a confined area especially with someone I don't know...especially with a male. I sit on the couch and he comes over to sit on the other end leaving a gap between us. He picks up the Xbox remote and continues to play the game I assume he was playing before I interrupted him.
The guy is a little over weight and I wonder if he sits her all day playing on this game. I also feel like he never really even leaves that spot on the couch, not unless he needs something to eat or to use the bathroom and forget even thinking about a shower. His hair hasn't been washed in some time now and not sure how long he has been wearing those clothes he has on. I notice a few stains here and there.
The room needs a good cleaning as well and you can tell that a woman doesn't live here. There is an ashtray on the table with several cigarette butts, not to mention that some of the ashes are on the table. A few cans of beer and different soft drinks are also on the table with a plate of left over pizza crust. I try not to let the reek of the room get to me.
When he gets killed he looks over at me. "Shit! I forgot to ask if you wanted anything to drink or anything...how rude of me."
I wave him off. "I'm fine."
"You sure...he has water, soda, milk, beer." He smiles with the last choice.
"I'm not old enough to drink besides I have to drive home."
He shakes his head and lets out a smirk. "Come on you got to be a little thirsty." He stands up and goes into the kitchen and comes back with two glasses of what looks to be Sprite. "Here," he says as he hands me a glass.
I wonder if the glass was even clean or not. I looked at it to see if I could see fingerprints, left over lip marks and the glass actually looked clean. Even though I really don't want it, I take it from him and take a sip. "Thank you."
He sits back down and starts playing again. I keep looking at the time on my phone and it's already going on six. I have been here an hour and he still hasn't gotten here. My parents are going to be really upset with me if I am not home by seven. I finish of the Sprite and set the glass down on the table.
"I guess I better be going...can you just tell him that I came by."
He puts the remote down and looks at me. I'm not sure that I like the way that he is looking at me, it's kind of creepy. I start to stand up and I feel really dizzy and I think I'm going to be sick. He pulls on my arm for me to sit back down. It's crazy how I feel very lethargic all of a sudden. I close my eyes and open them back up and everything seems to go blurry.
"Where are you going baby...he will be here soon no need to be hurrying off." I can smell the liquor on his breath. I didn't notice it earlier; then again he wasn't this close to me either. I look down at the table...then at the empty glass. Oh my god what the hell did he do? I got to get out of here...now. His hand just so happens to find my leg and he is rubbing up and down all calm like. I am for sure going to puke...I feel it coming up my throat. I push his hand away as I stand back up with force. By the time I make it around the coffee table and to the door he is already there stopping me from going out.
His smile has gone to more sinister. "Now baby girl where are you going?"
I feel my whole body tense up as I stand there almost as if I'm frozen back to that night with Derrick. "What did you say?" I feel the words slur out of my lips. Cora is starting to surface. It's feels weird because I haven't felt her that much in a while.
"Where...are...you...going?" His hand grabs a hold of my hair and he starts playing with it, then bringing it to his nose and sniffing it. I attempt to step backwards; I try to pull away from him.
"No what did you call me?"
"Baby girl," he smirks.
That is all it took those two words...to make me snap. My chest starts to cave in and suddenly I can't breathe. I struggle for air. Not to mention the dizziness is still there. I haven't been called that in a while and the only one to ever call me that is dead. Now the panic floods into my veins. I don't know what to do or how to get out of here but I got to get out like now. I feel her. I feel her slowly taking over my body. She was always there for me to take over the pain.
His lips try to touch mine but I turn my head and he misses only to kiss my neck. I knee him in the groan and he doubles over, so I clasp both hands together and come down hard on his back knocking him to the floor. My hand fumbles for the freaking door knob and I can't seem to get it to open. His hands grab my arm pulling me back to look at him and when I do the other hand comes across my face knocking the shit out of me.
"You fucking bitch...you didn't have to do that...now you just pissed me off." He uses both hands to pick me up and slams me against the wall knocking what breathe I did have out of me. Cora fades and Willow screams out in pain. I reach for something and hit him over the head and he stumbles backwards falling over the coffee table. Everything flies into the air as his body hits the floor. I don't dare wait to see if he is ok or not.
I open the door and bump into someone. I push past him, running out to my car. I just need to get away. However, whatever he put in my drink has taken over my body all the way now and I fall down the last few steps due to being really dizzy, and skin up both of my knees and my elbows.
Hands come around me and I am in fight mode. I swing hard hitting all over him. I just want him to let me go. Why can't he just leave me alone? It takes me a few minutes to realize who was trying to hold me down.
"Coralie...what the hell. Coralie...Stop...Babe...Stop...it's me...Zayden." I keep hitting him, struggling with all my power to get away. "Dammit...Coralie it's me! What the hell is going on?"
I look up at him glaring into his eyes. "Stop calling me that. Get the fuck off of me...let go of me." It's like I can't see; all I see is a black shadow.
He lets me go and I start to wobble towards the car. I fumble for my keys and I'm so messed up that I can't get the key in the hole. I keep fighting to get the damn thing in and suddenly his hand grabs my hand.
"Here let me help you." He says as he unlocks the door but he holds onto the keys. He must think he is slick...yeah that will keep me here.
I stumble around and cry out, "Give me the damn keys."
"I don't think you need to be driving Coralie."
I laugh wickedly, "I'm not her dammit...don't you dare call me that again."
"I don't give a fuck who you are at the moment; you're not driving. Come back up let me look at the damage." He reaches for my check where his friend hit the hell out of me. "Let me help you."
"I...I...I'm not...going...back...up...there." I slur over my words. I wasn't planning on going back there not with that monster up there. Then again I also wasn't expecting to fall to the ground, and having blackness surrounding me.
