Going Behind Their Backs

Song: Don't give up on me- Andy Grammer (Cover: Amber Leigh Irish)

I get a text later that night. I know it is him because no one knows this number. I still haven't bothered texting any of my old friends. I could easily look them up on social media and get numbers but I don't so when the phone dings my heart nearly jumps out of my chest with excitement.

Zayden: Can you talk. I want to hear your voice.

Coralie: Give me a few minutes

I start to go upstairs and my mom says, "Are you going to bed?"

"No, I was just going to finish up my homework."

Of course she notices the phone right off. "You should put your phone on the charger."

I hold it with both hands up next to my chest. "Actually I was going to use it to do my homework. I just need to look up some information."

She looks at my dad, then he says, "Coralie you know the rules...no phone after ten."

I glance up at the clock on the wall and its fifteen till ten. "I'll bring it back down in a few minutes...please...just fifteen minutes."

"Ok...but homework...got it."

"Yes sir." I quickly run up the stairs because every little minute I have I want to hear him.

When I get up to my room, I shut the door behind me. Then walk over to my closet. I step in and close the door behind me before dialing his number. The farther away from the door I am the better off. I don't want them to know that I am talking to anyone, especially him.

"Hey!"

"Hi...God I love hearing your voice." He tells me...and believe me I love hearing his just as much.

"Likewise...look I can't talk long they have this stupid rule of keeping all phones in the hallway at the charging station after ten."

"Seriously!"

"Seriously...I think they look at my phone to see who I have been talking too."

"You got to be kidding me."

"I wish I was. I don't think they trust me. Honestly I don't blame them; I was into a lot of bad stuff before getting the help I needed."

"I told you...they will be constantly checking in on you."

"I know...."

"It was nice seeing you today."

I touch my lips thinking about his lips on mine. Even though it was earlier today, I still feel him lingering on me. "Thanks for hunting me down...my little stalker. I missed you so much. I want to see you again."

"How you plan on doing that?"

"I don't know. I will have to find away. I'll think of something." I could skip school but they would find out or maybe I could pretend that I am staying after school for a club. I'm not sure but several options go through my head.

"I wish I could talk to you all night."

"I do too. I want you to hold me."

"I want to be with you so bad. I can't stand it. I hate being away from you." He sounds like he is about to cry but he holds it together really well.

"I know..."

I hear my dad calling faintly down stairs...shit. I know if I don't take the phone down within a few minutes one of them will be up here to get it.

"Hey I got to get off the phone now. They don't know I'm even on it. If they knew they I was talking to you they may take the phone away."

"Ooooh...you naughty girl...going behinds your parents back."

"Yeah...well you are the one who wanted to talk to me...to hear my voice, remember."

"I can't help it, I love hearing your voice."

"Awe...I really got to go."

"Tomorrow."

"Tomorrow...I promise."

"Hey...delete all contacts if you really think they are looking at your phone. And I love you."

"I love you too...goodnight."

When I get off the phone I delete everything. I delete the text and the call log. I know I shouldn't but if they find out that I am talking to him I will never hear the end of it.

I know I shouldn't be texting while at school but I do it anyway all week long between classes and all during lunch. Before I go home I delete everything. Whenever I can I call him just so we can actually hear each other's voice. I so need to find away to see him. So I get the idea to see if Carter would be willing to take me to the mall on the weekend. I know he will be with me but surely I can figure out a way to get away even if only for a few seconds. And if I can get Natalie to go with us maybe I can for sure get away for a few minutes.

Carter just happens to be home for the weekend. He is in the living room watching a game. As I walk into the room, I flop beside him on the couch. "Carter are you planning on going to the mall this weekend?"

"I don't know why? I have a game on Saturday."

"I was just going to go to the bookstore to get a book for class."

"I'll see...if we decide to go you can go too."

"Cool thanks."

I go back to my room and call Zayden. I so can't wait to tell him that I might have found a way to see him.

"Hey...I might be able to go to the mall this weekend. You think we could meet up."

"Hell yes...I will find away." He says excitedly.

We talk for a while and then I hear someone knocking on my door.

I whisper in the phone, "Hey got to go...someone is knocking at my door...bye...love ya."

I hear him say "love ya" before I hang up.

My mom enters the room on the second knock. "Who were you talking too?"

"No one?"

"I thought I heard you talking?"

I have my notebook out and a book open, pretending to be studying. "Oh...I was just talking to myself. I just have so much homework; trying to catch up on everything. I feel so far behind."

She looks at me suspiciously. "Well dinner is ready...come down and eat with us."

"Yes ma'am." I close my notebook and even leave the phone under the pillow so that she won't think that I was lying to her. I follow her downstairs and sit down with the rest of them at the table. It feels nice having Carter at home and it seems to help because all the conversations seem to revolve around him.

Carter has a game on Saturday; therefore I don't get to go to the mall. I text Zayden to let him know that I will not be able to make it and that I am at the game. Of course he shows up. I watch as he makes his way to the bleachers on the other side. He is wearing ripped jeans and a band shirt that I can't quite make out from where I am sitting. However I do watch him sign to me to go to the concession stands. I can't help but laugh at him; he is so freaking adorable.

"I need to go to the bathroom and I might stop to get something to drink...I'll be right back."

"Would you like me to go with you," my mom says.

"No I got it mom...I'm not a two year old."

"Sorry...I didn't mean..."

I cut her off. "I get it...you guys think I'm going to lose it...I'm fine really; I'll be right back." I stand up and make my way down the bleachers.

I know he is watching me. I don't have to look his way; I can feel him. By the time I walk around behind the bleachers he is right by my side placing his hand into mine and guiding me behind the concession stand. He turns me around so that my back is up against the building and he is inches in front of me. He doesn't even give me time to say hi before taking my lips. Holy Moly the boy knows how to kiss. I feel like we are practically making out in public. I try not to pay attention to everyone that walks by. I lose track of the time.

"I better get back before they start looking for me."

"Don't go," he practically begs. His arms wrap around my waist.

"I got to...they will come looking for me."

He pulls me in tighter. "So let them; I'm tired of sneaking around anyway."

"I know but..." I step back and look around. "I'll try to find away to meet you again. I really got to go." I kiss him again but he doesn't let go of my hands. He pulls me back into him for another kiss. If it was up to me I would stay like this forever but I know I'm going to get in trouble if I don't go now. "Bye...love you."

"I think I love you more."

I blow him a kiss as I'm walking away. By the time I get back to the bleachers my parents are glaring at me. "That took a while...thought we were going to have to come save you."

I laugh. "The line was longer than I thought it would be and I'm fine I don't need saving." As I sit down I look up and see him on the other side. He decides to stay for the whole game...watching me. Thankfully I brought my sunglasses so it looks like I'm watching the game but really I am watching him.

The next day I make it to the mall but I don't get to stay long. Just long enough for a quick kiss. I pretend that I had forgotten something and had to run back in to get it. Zayden is leaning against the wall in the book store. When he sees me, his whole face lights up. I quickly walk to the back and he follows me. I pull him into me and our lips meet. "I'm sorry I couldn't get here fast enough. I can't stay though, Carter is waiting on me."

I hear a long upset sigh, "How long are we going to keep doing this. Coralie I want to be with you. This is driving me crazy."

"I know, me too. Please don't be upset with me. I am really trying. Look my birthday is coming up soon so maybe they will at least let me start driving. I have to gain their trust again."

"I just want more." When my eyes cast to the floor he pulls my head back up. "I want more time with you."

"I know. I really got to go, hopefully we can figure out something." I reach back up and kiss him again before leaving the store. Carter already has the car pulled up at the door so I open it up and slide into the back seat because Natalie is with us as well. I really tried to get away from them earlier it was just so hard.

The whole way home all I think about is Zayden. I know he is starting to get irritated with me because he seemed really off today and wasn't acting like himself. I don't know how much longer I can do this either. There has got to be a better way to see him. Maybe I just need to come on out and tell my parents. I just have to make this work...somehow.

Another week goes by and we only talk by texting throughout the day. Occasionally I find a way to call him but I know he also has to work and I really don't want to get him fired from his job.

After much debating with my parents, they both finally agree to let me get my license. I will be turning seventeen and this is the one thing that I had practically begged for. I gave them the whole spill of why I should have my license and how much easier it would be for them not having to get to school and home and other places. So he agreed that if I studied really hard for it they would take me. So that is what I did. That was the only main thing on my mind for the week. I got my license and the only thing I could think about was finding a way to see Zayden.

The next day I ask my dad if I can borrow the car. I'm hoping my parents will let me use it. I was super shocked when dad said I could use it. He thinks I'm just going to the library to study but that's not the only place I plan to go.
