Puzzled
She led you through a dark archway, and into a hall like structure. The walls, and floors were tinted purple, and a few feet ahead were stairs. At the base of those was a square of leaves. She walked up the staircase, towards another archway, and you continued to follow.
This one had vines around it, and a plaque above it. Though, you couldn't read it. Inside the next room was six buttons, and a closed door.
That was where Toriel stopped you.
"Welcome to your new home, innocent one. Let me educate you in the operation of the ruins."
She turned and stepped on four of the buttons. She walked over to a wall and flicked a switch.
The door opened.
"The ruins are full of puzzles. Ancient fusions between diversions and doorkeys. One must solve them to move from room to room. Please adjust yourself to the sight of them."
She smiled warmly. Then turned and walked through the door.
You stayed to study the puzzle. This one was simple, so it would be easier to memorize. As you went after Toriel you saw a sign next to the door.
It read- "Only the fearless may proceed. Brave ones, foolish ones- both walk not the middle road."
You didn't understand the meaning.
She led you through another room, and helped you with that puzzle too, then you two continued on. In the next room, she stopped you once more. This room was mostly empty, with two doors and a small dummy.
Toriel smiled. Again. "As a human living in the underground, monsters may attack you. You will need to be prepared for this situation. However, worry not! The process is simple. When you encounter a monster, you will enter a fight."
You frowned. No duh, I kinda figured...
"While you are in a fight, you will strike up a friendly conversation."
What. The fack. No.
"Stall for time. I will come and resolve the conflict. Practice this on the dummy."
She turned and walked over to the second door then looked at you expectantly.
You sighed and walked up to the dummy. This is so-
The room around you darkened, and then it was just you and the dummy. Your breath caught in your throat. Still not use to this. Or talking animal people.
You didn't talk. No friendly conversation. You stared at it. It stared at you. The dummy and you just stared.
And suddenly, after a few minutes, the dummy just floated away.
No joke. It just floated off.
Then the room was back. Toriel just stared at you for a few seconds. Then at the dummy.
Finally she smiled brightly. "The next room awaits!"
You two walked for awhile, when suddenly a large frog leaped out of nowhere in front of you.
"Froggit." Was all it said.
You waved at it gently, then Toriel turned and saw it. She stepped up next to it and it blushed, then hopped away. She squinted after it, then returned to walking.
She led you across a spike pit, and at the other side paused to say," puzzles seem a little to dangerous for now."
You continued on, and at one point she asked you to cross a room. It took a while, and you couldn't see her ahead. Did she leave me behind?
But no. You found her behind a pillar at the end.
She came out when she saw that you'd found her. "... Greetings, my child. Do not worry. I did not leave you. I was merely behind this pillar. Thank you for trusting me." She did a little bow.
Then sobered.
"However, there was an important reason for this exercise... To test your independence. I must attend some business, and I must leave you alone for awhile. Please remain here. It's dangerous to explore by yourself. I have an idea. I will give you a cell phone. If you have a need for anything, just call."
You took the phone that she handed you. It was simple enough. You could use this. You placed it in your pocket.
"Be good, alright?"
She walked away. You waited about five minutes before walking into the next room.
The phone rang.
"You have not left the room, have you? There are more puzzles ahead that I have yet to explain. It would be dangerous to try and solve them yourself. Be good, alright?" Then, with a click, she hung up.
A little frog was in front Of you. It asked you to spare any monsters that attacked you, and you nodded, then pet his head. He hopped away. There were some leaves, put into neat piles.
You jumped in them and stomped around, giggling. You noticed a door and paused. "Mm?"
You walked over and peaked in. There was a little pedastle, surrounded by a square of leaves. You stepped foward. On a little plaque were the words- " take one."
You looked into it. Candy. With a smile you plucked one out, and put it in your pocket along with the phone, then walked back out.
A little way through the room a little creature flew in front of you. It whimpered, and the room darkened. You smiled at the tiny thing. It shrank away, shaking.
You frowned. "Um-"
It shrieked and buzzed away.
You continued on. Toriel called and asked if you liked buttetscotch or cinnamon. You replied with "um." She went with butterscorch. You found lots of puzzles and monsters, but one stood out to you.
A little ghost named Napstablook. It was pretending to sleep on some leaves. You tried to move it, but the room dimmed. He was floating in front of you. You smiled at him.
He gave a small,"heh..." Then used his own attack, which involved his tears.
You cheered him on, and he laughed again.
"I want to try...." His tears floated up past his "head" and a hat appeared. "I call it 'dapper blook.' Do you like it?"
You nodded crazily, smiling. He looked adorable. "Mhm!"
He cried a little. "Oh gee."
The room came back into view, and he said, "I usually come to the ruins because there's no one around. But today I met somebody nice... oh, I'm rambling again. I'll get out of your way." He faded away.
You continued on. You bought some spider cider, met some cute frogs, called Toriel, and solved a lot more puzzles. You even found a toy knife....
Eventually, in a room with a huge black tree, you heard Toriel muttering to herself. Then she came into view. She pulled out her phone and called you, but then heard the ringing.
She looked up and saw you. She hurried over.
"How did you get here, my child? Are you hurt? There there, I will heal you. I should not have left you alone for to long. It was irresponsible to try and surprise you like this." She sighed.
You took a tiny step away. Surprise...?
"Err... Well I suppose I cannot hide it any longer. Come small one." She turned away, and you followed her.
