After completely giving up all hope on the case, Marinette had settled back into the apartment she shared with Alya, not really bothering to interact with any other human being ever again.
Maybe it was best if the thief was never found. She had been trying convince herself that for the last hour or so, and it hadn't worked. Marinette couldn't bare the thought of a loose criminal who was successful in his work run free as he pleased.
She knew that it was possible for her to get fired and loose her badge if she neglected her orders, but right now, it didn't seem to phase Marinette anymore.
What would her parents even think of her when they discovered she had lost her job? They were the ones in fact, who had wished she stayed as a doctor instead of moving to Paris France to become a cop.
But it was her decision that was made, not theirs. It was also her consequence in the end.
She had only had four more days to solve the case before her two week time was up, and Marientte wasn't even close to finding out who was behind all this. It seemed the more clues she found, the more they buried her into a deeper hole of confusion.
And then there was Chat Noir, the guy she thought trusted her with his life like she did him. Marinette believed that Chat Noir had been the best partner for her; the one she was for sure could've been her permanent partner in crime if she had asked. She had hoped maybe after they had solved the case, she could've offered him a spot as her partner, until he tried to accuse her of being on alliance with opposite side.
That sure was painful to hear.
The bluenette still couldn't believe that he would actually think that of her. How could Chat Noir have doubted her so much as to where he would actually believe she was a traitor?
Mairnette had never felt so humiliated and hurt in her life. After everything that had happened in her past, this had to be at least one of the worst. The last thing she wanted was to feel betrayed by yet another man.
A sudden knock on the apartment door had her startled, and her eyes quickly glanced down at her phone screen to check the time. Eleven pm it read, and she titled her head in utter confusion. Who would be at the door at this time?
Marientte shrugged it off as she stood up to her feet from the couch. Upon walking towards the door, ready to see who it was, her feet suddenly stopped her from moving any further, and she stopped in her tracks. The sudden thought of Chat Noir standing at the other side suddenly frightened her.
The last thing she wanted to do right now was talk to him.
But the person knocked again, and Marientte decided it was time to stand up for herself. Why did she need to have a fear of Chat Noir anyway? She didn't care if he was behind that door or not.
So, Mairnette made a few more strides towards the door and didn't hesitate to pull it open with such a force that she didn't even realized how strong she really was when the door flew back. Mairnette could've sworn she had almost broken off its hinges!
"Woah hey!" Damon stretched out his hands, as if he really could've caught that door, "I didn't expect you to be in such a grumpy mood."
Well, this hasn't been what she expected at all.
Mairnette stared up at him with clear expression of annoyance and slight shock. Defiantly was she not prepared for Damon to be at her doorstep. Out of all people to come knocking on her door, Marinette would've preferred Chat any day over this man.
"What do you want, Damon?" She questioned him, frowning entirely at his presence.
Damon chuckled and cleared his throat, "Can I come in?" He asks her politely, "I was just hoping we could talk."
Talk at eleven in the night you hoe?
"About what?" Marinette practically spats at him, although he doesn't seem to catch onto it. "And how did you know I lived here?"
"People have their ways, Marinette." He chuckled lightly, and her suspicions only grew by his secrecy, "I just wanted to talk to you about some things. Please, may I come in?"
Marinette thought about it for a good ten seconds at least. Although she really never wanted to speak to Damon ever again, it sounded to her as if he really needed to discuss something with her. At least he's being polite, she had to remind herself.
"Fine," she gave in as she's opened the door wider for him. He smiled happily, and entered the small apartment with glee. Marinette quickly shut the door behind him, watching him as he oddly stepped foot into her living room.
"So," the awkward silence was a bit overbearing for Marinette as she stared awkwardly at his back, and she broke it by asking, "Should we sit?" Her hands widely gesture to the couch.
He turns to look back at her, and when he understand what she has asked, he simply nods silently, and they both take their seats across from each other on the large couch without a single word.
When they sit for some time without a word, Marinette decides to clear her throat to catch his attention, "So, what was it you wanted to talk about this late at night?"
Damon sits up straighter to look her in the eyes, "Sorry about the time," he chuckles when he realizes he's been silent, "I've just been thinking about this for a while now ever since I saw you in the hospital. I'm just thinking of how I want to say this to you correctly."
Marinette was in no mood to joke around, and at this point, if he wanted to talk, she was just wanting him to spill what he needed to say. She could care less at this point if he had something important he needed to say.
"I'm just gonna throw it out there," he decides, and his smile grows even wider as his eyes lock on hers, "I want us to get back together, Marinette."
For a minute, Mairnette isn't sure whether or not to take him seriously. But when she begins to burst out in laughter, she soon realizes it's no joke when he's watching her pleadingly, "Oh god you're serious?" Her laughter soon dies out as she stares at him in complete bewilderment, "You can't be-"
"I'm serious," he admits, no sign of humor is written is his features.
"You're insane!" Marinette points an accusing finger at him. Her anger soon began to rise as her eyebrows knit together in furry, "How dare you even propose such a thing!"
However, Damon stays absolutely calm as he raises an eyebrow towards her, "I want to marry you, Marinette. Our lives were perfect together; what happened that made you want to leave our dream job? And Me?"
She scoffs at that, "I tell you what made me want to leave you," Marinette spats disgustingly at him, "The fact that you wanted to throw away our child! The fact that you made me abort my baby! You bastard!"
There was a long pause of silence, and tears began to fall down Marinette's cheeks at the memories that began to pour into her head.
"Is that what all the trouble is?" He suddenly breaks the silence with a question Marinette can hardly believe she is hearing, "You're still upset about that?"
What the actual-
"Of course I am!" Mairnette cries, finally deciding she's had enough with this conversation. Standing to her feet, she continues to yell at his seating figure, "What is wrong wth you?! You made me kill my child! How can you expect me to just forget that?!"
Damon sighs, still keeping his cool, "I wasn't ready for kids, Marinette." He tries to explain, "I was focused on my job. I thought we both were. I could've sworn we were on the same page before that....thing came along."
Marinette's eyes widen even more, "That thing?" She couldn't help but whimper, "How could you call it that? That thing was our child!"
Suddenly Damon had stood to his feet, "Look I get it, what I did to you was wrong. What I did to our baby was wrong." He then sighs and brings his hand up to rub the bridge of his nose, "But I can't deny that being with you was the happiest year of my life."
Marinette shook her head, the tears just continuing to poor from her eyes.
Why was Damon doing this to her?
Why now?
"If you're still heartbroken about the baby, there is always a way to fix that." He says, and suddenly, Damon is taking closer steps to her, "All we have to do is make another."
His hands find her hips, and in an instant, Marientte is being pulled towards his body. Her hands fly to his chest immediately, and all she can do is whimper when he presses his lips to her neck.
But this is not what she wanted.
What she wants.
Suddenly, her hands on his chest take action, and in one swift movement, Marinette is shoving Damon as hard as she can away from herself. Damon stumbles back, almost loosing his balance and clearly baffled at what she had just done.
"I never want to have sex with you ever again." Marientte spats, "It was the worst mistake I ever made in my life."
Suddenly, Damon isn't so calm anymore, and the anger is clearly evident now, "Fine." He's soon growling at her figure, "If you'd rather have intercourse with that cat of yours, than be my guest."
He did not dare say something like that about Chat Noir!
Wait....how did he know about Chat Noir?
Marinette's eyes soon widen at his comment, "How do you know about Chat Noir? I've never mentioned him to you before."
Damon snickers, and suddenly, Marientte isn't sure if the man standing before her is the man she thought he was anymore, "I'm the one who shot his brother."
All Mairnette can do is gasp.
