"You're staring", she commented as she noticed him looking at her instead of the menu, with a gaze that could barely have been more fascinated. "Sorry, I just-", he sighed, looked down as he smiled, "I can't believe how I never saw His work in you before. I was literally blind and He opened my eyes and now I don't even want to stop looking at every detail He made and admire"
She smiled and he rested his chin on his palm, arm propped up against the table. "That's what I mean, you have one dimple when you smile, just on your right cheek. It's such a small thing, but it makes you so much more special", he smiled at her as she blushed, sighing out the breath she wanted to put into a sentence.
"Stop", she then said, with a smile, "Pick your food" "I can improvise when the waiter comes" "He really turned you upside down", she chuckled and his smile became even brighter. "Isn't that wonderful?", he asked and she smiled back at him. "You don't even know how wonderful it is to me"
He took her hand into his and said: "Our God is so good" "He truly is", she replied softly and quietly, squeezing his hand gently with hers. For a moment they just looked at each other and then she said: "The holy spirit in me loves the one God send to you"
He smiled, then felt his lip trembling, pressed his lips together and looked down as his heart felt so full. He chuckled, voice thick with tears of joy as he said: "I- May- He made you so good with words, it's crazy"
They both chuckled and she held his hands tightly. "You deserve the good things happening to you after all you've been through", she whispered and he looked up at her confused. "How do you know what I've been through?", he asked and noticed how she looked a little confused at her own words as well. "I don't know, it just kinda came to me to say that"
After a moment she tilted her head to the side and asked: "What have you been through?" "Uhm, I-", he looked down, "I will sound like someone who doesn't know how good he has it. These things are so insignificant probably" "I don't care how insignificant they sound, because they obviously effected you", she replied and he shrugged. "Well, being the son of the person who basically owns the city means being alone constantly. My mum died when I was young and my dad was never there, he was always working and all. I never had any real friends either, but I had enough people who wanted to be seen as my friends to fill theatres. The only way I ever got to truly be free from false friends, loneliness and high class events on which my father pretended that we had the best relationship ever was sledding. And now that's gone too", he whispered the last part to himself, looking down, eyes catching on the cross around his neck and which a smile he looked up, "But I gained Gods grace and love, so not the worst resume I'd say"
"That sounds pretty significant to me", she replied, "That must've been hard to go through all alone" "It was, but it's over now", he said and smiled at her, "God blessed me abundantly today"
Gently he pulled her hands closer, kissed them and quietly he asked: "Would you be my girlfriend?"
She lit up and nodded. "Yes", she whispered and he saw that spark of pure joy in her eyes and he knew God made it knowing it would become his favorite sight.
