With a bright smile Troy came home, waved at Jane and Miller, two servants of the house as he saw them across the entrance hall.
"Good evening!", he said and they repeated the same joyously to him, "Is my dad home?" "Not yet" "Would you help me pick out a record to listen to?", he asked and walked towards the grand arch leading to the living room. Or better said common area, as it was huge in size and had barely anything in common with a living room except for sofas and some armchairs.
Miller and Jane followed him and together they picked out a vinyl record that Troy quickly put on the record player.
"And now, I want you to teach me how to take care of a house", he said and took off his scarf and coat with a smile.
"Are you sure?" "Yes, I'll be head of a household someday, I need to know at least the basics", he replied and Miller gestured for him to follow. "How about I show you how to be a handyman?", he asked, "There are some things that need to be fixed anyway" "Yeah, absolutely", Troy said, when Jane took his coat and scarf out of his hands. "You'll need your hands free for doing some handy work 'round the house so let me take this for you", she said and as he thanked her she stepped away toward the entrance hall with a not a problem on her lips.
"So, Troy", Miller - a middle aged man with an almost fatherly smirk - said, "You ever exchanged a lightbulb?" "Nope" "Then today is your lucky day", he replied as they walked into one of the maintenance rooms, grabbing a wooden box off the shelf, putting it on a table and opening the latches.
A soft foam held in place ten identical lightbulbs. "Your old man invented these, they don't have to be switched often, but they still fail from time to time like up there", he pointed to a ceiling light that didn't light up anymore, "Get that ladder over there and get on up to the light"
Troy got the ladder and after struggling to get it open so it could stand safely, Miller took it and showed him how to do it.
"Now go up", he said and Troy did, "Unscrew the the lightbulb, so just twist it to the right"
Troy did as he was told, eventually holding the old on in his hand. "Now hand that to me and take this new one", Miller said, "Twist it in to the left" "Like this?" "Good job", he replied and smiled when he saw Troy's face lighting up shortly after the lightbulb began to glow.
"What's next?", Troy asked, looking down smiling. "You think you can hang up some new curtains?", Miller asked and leaned against a wall with his arms crossed. "Alone? No. With you and Jesus? Yes.", he said and got off the ladder, so filled with energy to learn more and be prepared to become a man who can lead a household eventually.
