When he returned home he was silent.
He let God guide him into the word, reading second Corinthians. Troy felt such conviction as he read in the first chapter;
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort.
And he remembered the warmth that had filled his chest as he met Jesus. He felt the comfort running through his veins with every breath, with every anxiety given to God and released through Him.
He smiled as he continued, reading about how His comfort fills us so we can comfort others too.
How God gives us to give to others.
It was beautiful to him in a way that nothing before was beautiful.
He underlined it just as a bell started ringing.
It was time for dinner. He left the Bible open on his bed, walked downstairs into the dining hall and stood next to his seat waiting for his father. "Mister Milton Lougferd will not be joining you tonight", one of the servants said and he pressed his lips together, before looking around seeing all those people taking care of his daily comfort in the flesh.
"Would all of you, like to join me instead?", he asked and smiled at their surprise, "Please come and sit, there is more then enough space and food for us all, get the chef and his people as well."
Hesitantly they came closer and one of them spoke up. "You really want us to dine with you?" "Yes. Sit, please. I am sorry for never being kind enough to ask this before.", he said, pulling out a chair and holding a hand out to one of the maids, having her sit, gesturing for the next one to sit as well, "I want to be better, please, let me try my best at it"
One went to the kitchen and got the chef and his people, they all sat down and Troy sat in his fathers seat at the head of the long table.
He stood up and said: "I thank you all for your service to me and my father and the estate. You are the ones who give this house life and the comfort I get to experience everyday. May this meal and the conversations we will be having give you - if even a fraction - of that comfort. I thank you, I thank the chef for this incredible looking menu and I want to thank God for providing us with each other's presence this evening."
He gestured for them to start eating and sat down, beginning conversation with the people around him. Quickly the dining hall was filled with laughter and chatter, plates and silverware clinking and glass on glass as the toasted to each other.
Troy smiled and looked at them all with new eyes. He asked for their names, for their favorite things and the things they did in the house.
He helped clear the table after they were done and as he helped to dry off the plates the chef came up to him and patted his shoulder. "God bless you, Mister Lougferd" "Tramilton, Sir. Mister Lougferd is my father", he said and he nodded. "Alright, Tramilton, God bless you" "God bless you too, Alfred", he said, "And thank you for that amazing meal, it was incredible" "Any day", he said and began to help with cleaning the dishes as well.
The kitchen was filled with conversation and joy and comfort that Troy was sure, came from the Lord.
