CHAPTER ONE
THE VERY FIRST MASSACRE
Location: southern headquarters, Tokyo
Time: 9:00 pm
Date: 28th July, 3020 . . . .
AGENT SHIBUYU KEN
TWENTY FOUR
ADVISORY COMMANDING OFFICER
UNIT 12 UNDER SA
"All the high-ranking members are here, sir," the female officer announced, her stature imposing as she stood before the male figure, her form cloaked in the signature black robe of the JEO officers.
"Alright, Shibuyu. Inform the teams," the male figure responded with authority, his voice carrying a weight of command as he addressed the officer.
COMMANDER SEMEN KISUKE
THIRTY FIVE
CAPTAIN OF SA (SENIOR AFFILIATION) UNIT
TOTAL UNITS HANDLED UNDER SA: 150
"Sir," Shibuyu saluted crisply before exiting the dimly lit room, her form disappearing into the shadows beyond. With her departure, the room fell into an expectant silence, the only sound the soft shuffle of feet against the polished floor.
AGENT HECTO SIBUSHI
TWENTY FOUR
HIGH RANKING MEMBER OF UNIT 12 UNDER SHIBUYU
"Sir, the front line has spotted enemies. There are eight of them, D type," Hecto informed, his voice steady and resolute.
"Oh? Looks like they are underestimating us. Inform the main units to take position. Arrange long-range rifles," Semen ordered, his tone decisive as he surveyed the situation at hand.
"Already ready, sir. We wait for your command," Hecto announced, his confidence evident as he stood before his superior.
"Oh? Aren't you an amazing officer, Hecto," Semen remarked with a grin, acknowledging the readiness of his subordinate.
"Sir," Hecto replied, saluting confidently in response.
"Sir, they are approaching us," Shibuyu interjected, raising her hand to signal the arrival of the enemies as she stepped into the room once again.
"Well then. Send unit UA. We will finish this off quickly and report to the headquarters with absolutely no casualties," Semen commanded immediately, his authority clear as he made decisions swiftly and decisively.
"Sir? Those elite members against D type. Isn't it a waste? And what was the use of preparing long-range rifles if they were to fight?" Hecto questioned, his brow furrowed in concern.
"Oh? Now, Hecto, those preparations were made for the worst-case scenarios. Just in case the UA unit were to fail," Semen explained, his tone casual yet tinged with underlying confidence.
"Their failing is practically impossible, sir," Hecto muttered under his breath, his faith in the UA unit unwavering.
"Oh yes. You are right. That damn captain of the UA unit is too full of himself, yeah? Certainly, we have nothing to fear about," Semen chuckled, his amusement evident as he dismissed any notion of concern.
"You called us, Captain of the SA unit?" a haughty voice interrupted, the figure entering the unlit room with an air of arrogance.
"Oh yes. If it isn't Awara, Captain of the UA unit," Semen responded, turning to face the newcomer, their eyes meeting with thinly veiled disdain as they exchanged barbs disguised as formalities.
Both captains regarded each other with contempt, their sarcasm palpable as they referred to each other by their titles. As the figure approached Semen, the light from the open window illuminated his visage, revealing the tension that simmered beneath the surface of their interaction.
COMMANDER AWARA SOMOSHI
THIRTY FIVE
CAPTAIN OF UA (UNDER AFFILIATED) UNIT
TOTAL UNITS HANDLED UNDER UA: 78
"Yes, Semen, captain of the SA unit," Awara acknowledged with a slight bow, his tone dripping with thinly veiled sarcasm.
"I hope your team 9 is here," Semen remarked bitterly, his gaze narrowing as he regarded Awara.
"Of course," Awara replied, his lips twisting into a taunting smirk as he confirmed the presence of his team.
"Well, Kagaro and Yone, prepare for battle formation 4. These are only D types, so finish it quickly," Awara ordered, addressing the two shadows that lingered behind him. With a nod, one of them stepped forward, revealing himself in front of Semen.
AGENT KAGARO RIYU
FOURTEEN
YOUNGEST COMMANDER IN HISTORY OF JEO
CAPTAIN OF UNIT 9 UNDER UA
STAR BEARER
STAR - ANISOL (MALE)
"Yes sir," Kagaro saluted towards Awara, stealing a glance at Semen before turning to exit the room. Beside him, the second figure, still concealed under the dark cloak, followed silently.
As the two figures departed, Awara moved closer to Semen, his eyes scanning the view outside the wide-open window that offered a glimpse of the front gates of JEO. The tension between them was palpable, the weight of their responsibilities heavy upon their shoulders.
At that moment, another man entered the room, his expression etched with anxiety and worry like brushstrokes on a broken canvas.
"Their numbers are growing, sir. They now outnumber us by an eight-to-five ratio," he reported in a rushed voice, the urgency evident in his words.
AGENT DORI YUMA
TWENTY FIVE
SECOND HIGHEST RANKING OFFICER AFTER HECTO UNDER SA UNIT 12
"But they are only D type, correct?" Semen asked, his brows furrowing in consternation as he sought clarification. Awara met his gaze with a look of rivalry and contempt, his amusement evident at Semen's apparent concern over a seemingly minor threat.
Semen clicked his tongue bitterly at Awara's reaction, feeling a surge of frustration at the dismissive attitude towards a perceived lesser threat.
"Well, yes sir, but..." Dori, a junior member of the SA unit, began tentatively, his voice tinged with uncertainty.
"Back off if you can't even handle the D types, Agent Dori," Semen interrupted, his tone rising with frustration. "I give you permission to retire and lead your life peacefully."
"N-no sir... I'm-I'm sorry... I will always commit to JEO as an agent, sir," Dori stammered, his voice trembling with regret. "I shall take my leave now, pardon my incompetence."
With a bow, Dori hastily exited the room.
***
Agents clad in black cloaks hurriedly made their way towards the advancing Jenemes, their movements swift and purposeful as they carried their allocated rifles. The atmosphere crackled with tension as they faced off against the newly emerging species.
In the chaotic flurry of action, bronze bullets flew through the air like splattering confetti, accompanied by the deafening roar of recoilless rifle fire.
However, amidst the chaos of battle, casualties began to mount. Over fifty agents were deemed wounded in the hail of bullets and relentless onslaught of the Jenemes.
***
"They are just too many and refuse to give up too easily," Dori muttered, his footsteps echoing across the corridor lit with blue lights. His voice carried a note of frustration as he paced back and forth, his mind weighed down by the overwhelming odds they faced.
"And even though we have team 9 with us," Hecto sighed, approaching the timid agent from behind. Dori turned at the sound of his voice, a flicker of relief crossing his features as he recognized the familiar face.
"Our weapons are just not enough," Shibuyu interjected, joining the two boys in the corridor. With a resigned sigh, she removed her cloak, holding it in her hand like unwanted baggage as she gazed at her companions.
"Lady Shibuyu," the male agents nodded in acknowledgment of her observation, their expressions reflecting a shared sense of frustration and concern.
"There is only one thing we can do now," Shibuyu declared, her voice firm as she tossed her cloak aside. It landed neatly on one of the coat racks placed at the sides of the corridor.
"What is it, Lady Shibuyu?" Dori inquired, his gaze shifting to meet hers with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension.
"Trust Kagaro," she replied, her eyes flashing with concrete annoyance as she recalled their esteemed colleague. The weight of her words hung heavy in the air, casting a palpable silence over the trio.
"She is right, Dori," Hecto finally spoke, his voice resonating in the darkness of the corridor.
"Kagaro is just a child," Dori sighed, his tone heavy with doubt and uncertainty.
"That 'child' is the commander of a unit," Shibuyu stated matter-of-factly, her words cutting through the air with conviction.
"Yes, Dori. He is from the Riyu family and is a star bearer at that. There is not a reason out there to not trust him, right?" Hecto added, his voice tinged with reassurance as he placed a comforting hand on Dori's shoulder.
Asking the question more to affirm their collective resolve than to elicit a response, Hecto and Shibuyu began to fade away into the darkness of the corridor, leaving Dori to ponder their words in silence.
***
From the rooftop observatory of the JEO building, Hecto and Shibuyu peered through the telescope, their hearts sinking at the sight below. They watched helplessly as wounded agents lay scattered on the ground, blood staining the earth as they waited for aid. Crushed bullets littered the ground around them.
Shibuyu tapped on the glossy black earpiece in her right ear with her fingernail, her voice carrying a note of urgency as she reached out to Semen for assistance. "Sir," she began, her tone tense with worry.
"Speak," came Semen's response, his voice steady despite the gravity of the situation. He stood in the same unlit room, his hands folded behind his back, with Awara, his rival, standing beside him.
"...I request backup," Shibuyu said, her voice faltering slightly as she braced herself for Semen's response, knowing full well his dedication to their no-casualty record.
"...are they alright?" Semen inquired slowly, his concern evident in his tone.
"Alive, sir," Shibuyu confirmed.
"The ninth team is on their way. Prepare for emergency medication," Semen instructed, his voice tinged with urgency as he acknowledged the severity of the situation.
"Understood, sir," Shibuyu replied, her determination unwavering as she rushed down the stairs in her black jumpsuit, leaving Hecto to continue monitoring the situation from above.
Crashing into the infirmary of the building like an out-of-control vehicle, Shibuyu wasted no time in arranging medical kits, beds, and food, her hands moving with practiced efficiency as she prepared for the influx of wounded agents.
"Looks like we really can't do anything without your help... Awara," Semen remarked, his voice tinged with defeat as he acknowledged his rival's assistance. Awara met his gaze with an unreadable expression, his usual rivalry replaced by a sense of solidarity.
"We come under the same cause, Semen," Awara replied cryptically, before leaving the room, leaving Semen alone in the darkness to contemplate the weight of their failures.
As Semen's thoughts swirled with feelings of regret and self-doubt, a sudden crash against his door jolted him back to reality. Spinning around swiftly, his gun at the ready, he prepared himself to face whatever it was that would enter.
"The gates have been broken, captain!" one of the agents announced, his voice trembling with tears. Semen felt a twisted mix of emotions wash over him, his expression unreadable as he grappled with the gravity of the situation. With a steely resolve, he tapped harshly on his earpiece, his voice laced with urgency as he issued his command.
"Awara. I leave this to you," Semen's voice echoed through the earpiece, carrying a weight of trust and confidence that he rarely bestowed upon others. Hearing Semen's directive, Awara felt a mix of uncertain emotions flood his senses.
Despite their long-standing rivalry in the realm of Jeneme assassination, Awara had never expected Semen to relinquish control so easily. The realization that Semen was placing his trust in him, his rival, was both unexpected and humbling.
"He is there at the target point," Awara replied, his voice steady as he strode across the dark corridor, his footsteps echoing in the silence. With a practiced motion, he buried his cigarette in his palm, the sharp sting serving as a reminder of the weight of responsibility that now rested upon his shoulders. As he chewed sorely on his lower lip, Awara steeled himself for the task ahead, knowing that the fate of their mission - and perhaps even the future of the JEO - hinged on his ability to succeed.

"Assemble all the unit members. We are up against ninety-five D types. You think you can pull it off?" Kagaro Riyu, commander of the ninth team of the UA unit, issued his final command to his squad, his voice carrying a blend of harshness and reassurance as he prepared to lead them into battle. The members of the unit saluted in unison, their unwavering faith in their commander evident as they prepared to face the daunting task ahead.
Each member of the squad equipped themselves with a small bag around their waist, containing essential supplies for the mission. Two handguns hung from their belts, alongside a pair of glasses that served as night vision goggles, essential for navigating the darkness of the battlefield. Their uniforms bore no distinctive markings, save for Kagaro, who wore a wristband adorned with five stars.
Accompanying Kagaro was Yone Ken, the squad's ace officer and a fourteen-year-old high school student. Despite his youth, Yone was a seasoned warrior, his prowess on the battlefield matched only by his unwavering determination to eliminate the Jenemes. His bandana, emblazoned with five stars, served as a testament to his skill as a special member.

AGENT YONE KEN
FOURTEEN
SPECIAL MEMBER OF UNIT 9 OF UA UNDER KAGARO RIYU
STAR BEARER
STAR - SATAR (FEMALE)
"Go on, Yone-san. I will catch up with you later," Kagaro commanded, his voice firm as he directed the young boy to take formation. Without hesitation, Yone spun around and swiftly made his way to the front of the lines where the rest of the squad was already filed in. They stood in a V-shaped formation, their eyes fixed on the gates of the JEO, anticipation coursing through their veins.
In front of them, Yone hovered half an inch above the ground, his shoes equipped with small roller balls, a standard feature for every agent belonging to the JEO. His gaze remained fixed on the looming threat ahead as he prepared to lead his squad into battle.
With a slight jump, Yone soared into the sky, propelled by the assistance of his waist bag. The other agents followed suit, taking to the air as they readied their weapons and waited for Yone's command.
As Yone surveyed the scene below, his eyes focused on the large creatures wreaking havoc in front of the JEO gates, their tails and limbs thrashing about wildly. Without hesitation, he pulled his rifle to the forefront, taking aim with precision as he targeted one of the creatures.
With a steady hand, he pulled the trigger, sending a silver bullet hurtling through the air and piercing through the creature's eyes. A pained scream echoed through the air as the creature writhed in agony, its movements momentarily halted by the impact.
Taking the shot as a signal to commence their attack, the other agents opened fire, their weapons blazing as they floated in the air.

{ Special equipments designed for the purpose of exterminating JENEMES only:
1. Flying gear:
Use: helps a person fly in the air.
Appearance: a waist bag.
Working: a slight jump triggers it's ability to sense the urge to fly and sends the user soaring in the sky. Thinking of 'not flying' will help bring the owner back on ground.
Skills: there is a specific way to jump. Not any jump works on the gear and since this small action itself is specific a harsh training is required for the same. Mental control is important too.
2. Grenade slots:
Use: store grenades (smoke or explosive)
Appearance: small pouches almost the size of a single finger. (usually stored in the pockets of the uniforms)
Working: miniature sized pouches when flipped and/or tossed in the air turn into a huge suitcase and then the grenades in there can be used freely. Tossing it again will bring it back to it's miniature size. It is risky to keep this equipment with you at all times and hence the size.
Skills: N/A
3. Roller shoes:
Use: helps fast travel on foot
Appearance: a metallic silver shoe with small roller balls underneath.
Working: the metal balls go against friction and skate the person ahead like almost as if they had teleported. Exact speed of the object is unknown yet some assume it to be 320 kmph (200 mph).
Skills: adjusting to as high a speed as possible to maintain body movements and postures and avoid fatal accidents. }

"Sir. Team nine has opened high fire," Hecto's voice crackled through Semen's earpiece as he monitored the situation from the observatory, his eyes fixed on the unfolding battle below.
"That is good news," Semen remarked with bitter amusement, his tone tinged with a mixture of hope and resignation. "I hope we get our first victory today."
***
Yone soared through the chaos towards the epicenter of the destruction where the Jenemes wreaked havoc upon the JEO's defenses. As he reached his destination, he brought two fingers of his right hand to his bandana, a gesture imbued with ancient power.
"Satar," he intoned in a phantasmal tone, the word carrying a weight of ancient magic. Instantly, the five stars emblazoned on his bandana began to glow, emitting a brilliant light that illuminated the darkness around him. As the white light slowly began to dwindle, a faint outline of a person emerged from within its ethereal glow.

WEAPON TRANSFORMATION: GOD'S ASSISTANT
Amidst the chaos of battle, a figure materialized beside Yone, clad in a flowing white kimono that billowed around her like ethereal mist. Her long black-purple hair cascaded down her back, framing her unearthly, white face, which remained hidden behind a curtain of long bangs that veiled her eyes and much of her nose. Her hands were concealed beneath the voluminous sleeves of her kimono, and her feet remained hidden beneath the fabric, lending her an air of mystique and otherworldly grace.
She was Satar, the ultimate weapon at Yone's disposal-a spirit, or what people now termed a star. As she stood beside him, her presence radiated an aura of power and ancient magic, her very essence intertwined with the celestial forces that granted her existence.
***
Rumours state that she is the only female spirit to ever exist and is very careful about her companion. They say Yone had to be a special being to be chosen by someone equivalent to a god's powers like her.
***
"Satar. Kronos," Yone muttered softly, his voice carrying a hint of reverence and command. In response, the spirit immediately transformed, her ethereal form morphing into the shape of a sickle-a weapon wielded by the god Kronos, the deity of harvest and time. The sickle materialized in Yone's hand, ready to be wielded against the Jenemes.
As the transformation took place, a voice of dissent rose from one of the female officers of unit nine, expressing displeasure at the seemingly underwhelming nature of their secret weapon. However, Kagaro, flying overhead, interjected with a knowing smile, his confidence in Yone and Satar's abilities unwavering.
"You know what it can do, right, Menane?" Kagaro asked, addressing the officer who had voiced her discontent. "Thrill me, captain," she replied with a smile, her skepticism momentarily replaced by curiosity.
With a grin, Kagaro leaped down from his perch, landing gracefully next to Menane as they watched Yone prepare to face the Jenemes head-on. However, as Yone made his move, a sudden mishap occurred-a Jeneme crashed into one of the poles, causing Yone to lose his balance and plummet through the air. Desperately grasping for something to hold onto, his sickle raised involuntarily, flying towards another pole where Kagaro had just been moments before, and catching onto it with a clang.
As he hung onto the pole, Yone couldn't help but feel a pang of frustration at his inability to control his own gear.
"Well, that was entertaining," Menane giggled, her earlier skepticism giving way to amusement. "He is your comrade, show some sympathy," Kagaro chided playfully, joining in her laughter as they watched Yone's aerial acrobatics.
Meanwhile, Yone continued to maneuver through the air with skill and precision, his movements fluid and calculated. With one leg extended towards the sky and the other hanging down, he balanced himself effortlessly on the pole before him. With a swift motion, he activated his personal gear, the device whirring to life as he aimed it towards one of the Jenemes.
The dowel fired from his gear pierced the back of the creature's neck, eliciting a pained groan from the Jeneme as it staggered in response. Without hesitation, Yone swiftly switched targets, pushing the blue button on his gear to propel himself towards the next Jeneme.
As he descended towards his target, Yone unleashed a flurry of strikes, his blows landing with precision as he aimed for the creatures' heads, each strike a calculated move in his quest for elimination. With each successful hit, the Jenemes fell one by one, their massive bodies crashing to the ground in a cacophony of destruction.
"I am thrilled, captain, but not enough," Menane remarked with a grin, her excitement evident in her expression.
"You will soon be, my lady," Kagaro replied with a bow, his tone filled with confidence as he swiped two fingers across the armlet on his right wrist. With a flourish, he spoke the command aloud, his voice ringing out with authority. "Star Anisole!"
STAR ANISOLE (TRUE FORM ABOVE)
TEENAGE BOY

WEAPON TRANSFORMATION: WHIPS
OWNER: KAGARO RIYU
A male figure materialized beside Kagaro, his appearance strikingly human compared to the ethereal presence of Satar. Dressed in a casual ensemble of a green jacket, red shirt, black cap, blue jeans, and black sports shoes, he smiled politely at Kagaro, his demeanor calm and collected.
"What a young star you have, commander. I always admired the fact that you still have kept him listening to you," Menane remarked with laughter, her tone light-hearted as she observed the interaction between Kagaro and the newcomer.
"Let us show her just how obedient you are, Anisole," Kagaro replied with a knowing smile, addressing the male figure by his name. In response, Anisole transformed into a sleek, black polished whip, resting effortlessly in his hand. With a swift motion, Kagaro leaped into action, his movements fluid and precise as he unleashed a barrage of strikes against the advancing Jenemes, each strike landing with deadly accuracy as he defended their headquarters from the impending threat.
Meanwhile, Semen's voice crackled through Awara's earpiece, the once bold and commanding tone now tinged with a sense of defeat and resignation. Despite his conflicted feelings, Awara knew he had a duty to fulfill, and he gritted his teeth as he responded to the somber inquiry.
"None yet. Let me confirm," he replied tersely, his voice betraying none of the inner turmoil he felt.
"Menane! This is Commander Awara here. Can you read me?"
"Yes, sir," came Menane's prompt response.
"How are the readings?"
"Readings positive, sir," Menane replied, her voice steady and confident.
"Any casualties?" Awara's inquiry cut through the tension in the air.
"No, sir. All sectors are covered," Menane assured him.
"How many in each?"
Menane quickly listed off the agents stationed in each sector, detailing their positions and assignments with precision.
"What are the battle readings?" Awara pressed, his tone urgent.
"23 seconds per kill in air and 58 seconds per kill on land for Sir Kagaro," Menane reported.
"And Yone?"
"Hard to catch readings with the instruments, sir," Menane admitted, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
"Read the other sectors."
"All the other sectors are safe, Sir. Their kill rates vary from one minute 23 seconds to one minute 48 seconds," Menane informed him.
"Good. Keep me updated."
"Yes, sir." With that, the call ended, leaving Awara to contemplate the information relayed to him. He turned his attention to the large monitor on the front wall of the red-lit room, his gaze fixed on the unfolding events outside.
"Front gate. Twenty-three incoming," Awara's voice reverberated through the agents' earpieces, alerting Kagaro and Yone to the imminent threat. Blood dripped from their weapons as they paused, their path stained crimson from their relentless battle against the Jenemes.
"On my count, Yone, we separate and finish this," Kagaro declared with a sense of determination in his voice. Yone nodded in agreement, his resolve matching that of his commander. After silently counting to three in their heads, they sprang into action, bursting out of the headquarters and soaring into the air in opposite directions. With deadly precision, they unleashed a relentless assault on the approaching Jenemes, determined to eliminate the threat before it could breach the JEO's defenses and unleash chaos within their ranks.

"Agents. We are proud to announce our first victory against the Jenemes." Semen mentioned proudly.

In the year 3015, Japan found itself facing an unprecedented threat in the form of the Jenemes. These mysterious creatures struck fear into the hearts of humanity with their insatiable appetite for human emotions, strength, and youth. As panic swept across the nation, the authorities took swift action to protect the uninfected population, sheltering them from the sight of the deadly creatures.
Dr. Gairen, an esteemed scientist, conducted extensive research on the Jenemes, uncovering their unique biology. She discovered that the creatures' cells were replaced by microscopic particles known as Fragmented Force Fields (FFF). These particles interacted with the human body, creating a powerful force field that overwhelmed its biological processes, transforming individuals into Jenemes while leaving their consciousness intact.
The Jenemes were classified into different types, each with its own distinctive abilities and characteristics. The E types possessed the ability to reproduce through division, leading to a rapid increase in their population. D types could stretch and manipulate their bodies, altering their height and width at will.
C types had the ability to construct objects using their own body parts, shaping their slimy, gooey skin into various forms of weaponry. B types were formidable creatures with immense destructive capabilities, capable of consuming entire cities if left unchecked. These creatures also exhibited advanced scientific knowledge, though the exact nature of their abilities remained a mystery.
At the pinnacle of Jeneme hierarchy were the A types, individuals who retained their sanity for extended periods, even without consuming human emotions or strength. Little was known about these enigmatic beings, adding to the mystery surrounding the Jenemes and the threat they posed to humanity's survival.

"There is not much I can tell you about the A types even now," Gaieren stated, adjusting her steel-rimmed glasses, reserved for reading documents with minuscule text. Semen sighed heavily in response. "Then we will just go with killing them, professor," he said, his expression darkening.
Gaieren's response was terse. "Well, yes. If that is the last thing we can do." With that, she turned and headed towards her office, pointedly avoiding Semen's gaze. Shibuyu approached Semen, draped in her black cloak. "There is not much choice in our hands. I hope the professor doesn't think badly of us," she remarked. Semen merely nodded, the weight of their grim task heavy upon them.

"Good morning class," the teacher announced, snapping her fingers as she entered the classroom, causing green screens to appear around and above the class. "Before we start, I want you to meet someone. We have a new student in class today. She studied in the states for all her schooling before this, but since her father got a transfer to Germany, she has come here to Japan to live with her sister Momoko. Please be kind to her and no teasing. Jenna, come on in." The teacher smiled, gesturing towards the door.
Jenna entered the classroom quietly, her presence emitting a somewhat menacing aura. The students glanced at her curiously, whispering among themselves as she made her way besides the teacher.

JENNA ORNARD
Oragaka grinned broadly, his eyes twinkling with mischief as he gazed at his friend sitting next to him referring to Jenna. "What a cutie," he remarked, earning a playful punch on the arm from the girl.
"You have a friend who's just as amazing," she teased, poking him lightly. "Where is she?"
Oragaka feigned confusion, squinting dramatically. "Where? I only see a fish head with a bloated ego," he teased back, earning a harsher punch this time.
"Funny," she retorted, her lips curling into a smirk as she playfully hit him again.
"Fine, fine! You're pretty, Nimishi Choki! As pretty as..." He paused, searching for a comparison.
"I don't need your comparisons, especially if they're going to be bad," she interrupted with a roll of her eyes.
"Okay, no comparisons then," he relented, "if you promise not to punch me for the rest of your life."
She chuckled. "If that happens, the world will end."
"The world will end?" he exclaimed, his face flushing red with embarrassment. She laughed at his reaction, enjoying his discomfort.
"Shut up," a voice suddenly interjected, causing both Oragaka and Nimishi to freeze. They turned to see Enoy-kun, the boy sitting behind them, looking unimpressed.
"Sorry, sorry, Enoy-kun," Oragaka apologized quickly, his amusement evident despite his attempt to appear contrite.
"Well, Jenna. May you introduce yourself?" the teacher asked, a warm smile gracing her lips.
Jenna's gaze flickered nervously over the silent students seated in front of her. Her cheeks flushed with heat as she shifted her gaze downward, the dark aura surrounding her dissipating like a sudden evaporation. "I-I am Jenna... Jenna Ornard," she greeted hesitantly.
The class responded by rising and bowing to her, a traditional gesture of respect. Jenna felt a slow ease settle over her nerves at their polite reception. "I-I am used to being transferred to different, uh... parts of the world, so I-uh will be looking forward to interacting with people from my own country," she explained, completing her introduction.
Oragaka couldn't help but whisper to himself, his voice filled with sheepish admiration, "Woah. She is really cute. I shouldn't be smiling at her stuttering, but that makes her look cuter. If she becomes my friend, I will be floating in cloud nine." Nimishi swiftly slapped him on the head in response. "You deserve it," she chided, earning a glare from Oragaka before he redirected his attention to Jenna and the teacher.
"Let's see...you can sit next to...Enoy. Enoy? Is that fine with you?" the teacher inquired. Enoy picked up his bag from the seat next to him and placed it inside the cubicle-like structure floating next to the wafting seats.
Jenna approached the designated seat, standing beneath it. With a steady hand, she pressed the button on the remote control handed to her by the teacher before class. The recliner chair, a serene blue, similar to the others, gently descended to the floor. Jenna seated herself, and with a soft hum, it ascended to a position next to Enoy's seat. She placed her bag on her lap, settling into her new surroundings.
"You don't trust the CLs?" a girl sitting on the row next to Jenna's whispered, breaking the silence.
Jenna, feeling embarrassed, could only manage a nod in response. Initially, it wasn't apparent that this girl was as notoriously shy as she seemed.
"The air in the classroom isn't polluted, you know," the girl continued in a hushed tone. "By the way, I'm Sonomo Quaranta." She leaned back in her seat, her voice softening. "And you're really beautiful."
Sonomo's unexpected compliment brought a shy smile to Jenna's lips. She hadn't expected such kindness from a stranger on her first day.
"We can have lunch together later," Sonomo offered, her voice warm and inviting. "You can tell me more about yourself."
Jenna's smile widened, touched by Sonomo's gesture of friendship.

Studying everything in succession, Jenna felt her head throbbing a little. It was finally the most awaited hour of the day: lunch hour.
"Hey, Jenna! Let's go have lunch together!" Sonomo's excited voice broke through the classroom's quiet atmosphere as her seat descended to the ground. With a swift jump, she hopped off the seat, which promptly ascended back up.
"Okay, I'll be there in a minute," Jenna replied, looking down at Sonomo. Despite her nerves, Sonomo's enthusiastic demeanor brought a sense of ease to Jenna's anxious mind.
"Okay, I'll wait for you in the canteen. You can ask the people in the class if you don't understand the school's map screen," Sonomo offered kindly before taking her leave.
As Jenna gathered her belongings, a voice interrupted her thoughts. "Hey, new girl," Oragaka called out, turning back to peer into her book, his elbow propped on the backrest of his seat. "Not done making notes yet?"
Jenna's cheeks flushed crimson, and she felt tears welling up in her eyes. "I-I love microbiology, but it was the first class and I-uh, I lost my catch. Now I'm stuck," she admitted, her voice trembling with embarrassment and frustration.
Oragaka couldn't help but marvel at Jenna's presence, feeling as though he were in the presence of something divine. "God has graced me with her presence alone," he thought to himself, captivated by her charm and beauty.
As Jenna spoke, Oragaka hung onto her every word as if they were holy scriptures, his admiration for her growing with each passing moment. "How can someone be so cute and beautiful at the same time? It's a crime," he mused, unable to tear his gaze away from her.
"Well, well. Don't freak out, really. Ask Enoy for notes. After all, he is your bench mate and he is amazing at studies," Oragaka suggested, breaking the silence with a helpful solution. Jenna turned towards Enoy, her eyes sparkling with gratitude.
Enoy, feeling a certain unease under Jenna's gaze, agreed to share his notes. "Uh... okay. I will give you my notes," he said, unable to resist her earnest gaze. Jenna continued to look at him, her expression filled with appreciation.
"Ugh! I am in no club, and since you are new, they will give you at least three days to decide your club. Club timings are from two to four. So I will teach you then," Enoy added, defeated by Jenna's newfound presence in their school. She smiled and nodded, her black hair bouncing with the motion of her head.
Oragaka couldn't contain his excitement as he knelt on the floor, holding Jenna's hand in his. "Well, we will drop you off at the canteen, princess. That rich queen must be waiting for you," he declared proudly, relishing in the opportunity to escort her.
Jenna flushed at his action, feeling flustered by his boldness. Despite her embarrassment, Oragaka's genuine admiration made her heart flutter.
As they made their way to the canteen together, Nimishi couldn't help but sigh at Oragaka's infatuation with Jenna. "You look no more than her prince," she remarked in her thoughts, finding amusement in her friend's fervor.
"If she acts any cuter than she already has, then I'm sure Oragaka will end up in the hospital," Nimishi thought wryly, knowing her friend's tendency to be overwhelmed by adorable gestures.
"Here," Sonomo called out loudly, waving her hand towards them as they approached. Jenna rushed towards her friend, moving with an elegant swiftness that caught Sonomo's attention. "Haha," Sonomo chuckled awkwardly. "Are you sure you're a high schooler?"
"Eh? Yeah," Jenna replied, blushing at the unexpected compliment. She settled into the seat opposite Sonomo, and the two friends began to chat about their classes, teachers, and various other topics, their conversation flowing easily.
Jenna took a bite from her sausage, and as they reached a lull in their conversation, she couldn't help but notice Enoy's subdued demeanor. "What's wrong with Enoy-senpai?" she asked Sonomo, her concern evident in her voice.
Surprised by the sudden question, Sonomo paused before responding, "Why do you think something's wrong with him?"
Jenna struggled to find the right words. "Well, I was sitting next to him during class, and he seemed off. Does he... get bad grades or something? I mean, at first, that's what I thought, but then Oragaka-senpai mentioned that he was good at studies. So, then what's the problem? Why does Enoy-senpai seem so down... I-I don't know how to say it," she admitted, feeling overwhelmed by her emotions.
Feeling the tears welling up, Jenna hid her face behind her hands, fearing she had said too much. Sonomo reassured her gently, "Oh, relax. It's okay." Jenna lowered her hands, her eyes filled with tiny droplets of tears, as she looked at her friend for an answer.
"He is good at studying and at sports as well. He also performs well in other activities like ancient flower arrangement. That kid is really talented. But, you know, you're right. He does seem a bit off every time I see him," Sonomo explained. "I've heard from Nimishi-san that his parents were infected by the Sanguine virus and were hence annihilated for the same."
"Sanguine?" Jenna repeated, confusion evident in her voice.
"Yes. You were in America, so you probably have no idea, but I bet your sister knows," Sonomo replied before taking another bite from her meal.
"The name Sanguine is derived from the Latin word Sanguineus, meaning blood. It is a virus that turns humans into something akin to vampires, although what they consume is different from just blood. 'Vampires' is therefore not the correct term to address this phenomenon. They essentially lose their sense of taste for food and crave otherworldly things like human emotions and strength," Sonomo explained solemnly.
She continued, delving into the intricacies of the virus. "There is no possible limit to the consumption, as no such thing has been revealed. They slowly start feeding on emotions. The amount is so minuscule that one may not even realize they are slowly losing their sense of expression. However, at some point, the consumption can escalate to a dangerous extent, leading to the person's death from a sense of nothingness."
"The working of this disease is complicated. Only when the FFF particles, found in every human in minuscule amounts, agree to let the Jeneme consume its owner, can the Jeneme feed on emotions," Sonomo continued, her voice grave.
"When the FFF particles in the target's body are denied by the strong immune system, the Jeneme cannot consume them and moves on to the next target. A Jeneme can live for up to two months after completely draining all emotions and youth from one target. After this period, if they fail to find another target, they will feed on the human they previously consumed until they can find another source," she explained, her words painting a grim picture of the virus's effects.
"It is a disease with unknown means of transmission. Victims may not even realize they are consuming emotions until it's too late, having already consumed more than five people, according to studies," Sonomo concluded, her tone heavy with dread. "It's scary. You never know when you might end up killing your friend, or when your friend might end up killing you just by standing next to you."
Jenna listened intently, her eyes widening with each revelation. "Oh... his parents were infected. I-I had no idea," she murmured, feeling a pang of sympathy for Enoy.
"Does it hurt when you turn into those... things?" Jenna asked hesitantly, her voice trembling with apprehension.
"Yeah. According to studies, it's very painful, and there's a lot of mental changes. Even the eyes change colors, and the veins pop in and out," Sonomo replied, her expression somber. "It's a terrifying ordeal. But when you wake up after all this, you won't remember even a single bit of it, until, like I said, your brain subconsciously reminds you one day."
"Oh. When did all this start?" Jenna inquired, her curiosity piqued by the grim details Sonomo had shared.
"I don't know the exact occurrence or anything. It probably started before I was even born, around fifteen to sixteen years ago, but they are fixed on stating it began five years ago," Sonomo replied thoughtfully. "The rate of infection and turning was very low back then. The first victim was someone called Seiren. He was a student in a Mexican school, sixteen years old. At that time, the doctors assumed it affected only children and took measures concerning the same, like seclusion and undisclosed vaccines."
"But then, two months later, another man called Hanasuki from Yokohama was infected. He was a thirty-year-old businessman. After that day, it started spreading slowly all across the globe," Sonomo continued, her voice tinged with sadness. "It was confirmed that the virus was first spotted in America, since the first victim was from there, but this thesis was later erased. The first victim was actually a cat from Japan, in Shinjuku. It was brought in by an Indian woman who had recently flown in from Europe that day. So, it's all very confusing, and we still don't know the virus's origin. Of course, doctors and other scientists are trying, but we're stuck in hopelessness, and that's when the JEO was formed."
"JEO?" Jenna prompted, her interest growing with each new piece of information.
"Yes, Jenna. JEO. Jeneme Extermination Organization," Sonomo explained, her voice tinged with gravity. "It was formed by Irwin Izenhawa during the early 3000s for the sole purpose of locating Jenemes and ending their existence entirely. But the Jenemes fought back fiercely. They could revert from their human form to slimy, large creatures capable of destroying houses with a single blow. Since this power of theirs was discovered, we never once won against them... not that we managed to kill them before this either."
Jenna listened intently as Sonomo continued to unravel the complexities of the situation. "The only good news was that they couldn't consume emotions or anything else in their large form. Studying all kinds of possibilities, the scientist doctor Gairen came up with a variety of tactics to fend them off, and thus emerged the various units under the JEO, SA, and UA. SA, the Senior Affiliated Unit, comprised a group of high-class fighters who succeeded in killing Jenemes, while UA, the Under Affiliated Unit, was a group consisting of learning agents."
"UA, however, was as lucky as their commander, Sir Awara, stumbled upon mysterious star bearers-those who can use the power of the spirit. Hence, the UA unit became an important group of agents in the organization," Sonomo elaborated.
Jenna nodded, beginning to grasp the gravity of the situation. "I see. Coming back to Enoy-senpai. That's why he was so off. Because his parents no longer exist..."
"Well, they were killed by the JEO. The government was left with no options, so they decided that infected people had to be annihilated, since there are no known cures for this," Sonomo explained solemnly.
"Oh..." Jenna murmured, feeling a pang of sympathy for Enoy-senpai.
"Some say there are completely new elements in the virus that weren't discovered when papers were still used to write," Sonomo added, her tone heavy with uncertainty.
"I see," Jenna replied quietly, standing up and lifting her empty plate off the table. Sonomo followed her to the sink, where they placed their plates before heading back to class. Jenna walked with purpose, while Sonomo followed with a hunched back and lazy steps.

Fifth hour: Programming.
The seats in the class began floating as the children entered the class. Green and blue screens wafted in front of the masses.
***
Sixth hour: Math.
The ringing of the bell echoed throughout the school, signaling the end of classes for the day. Students poured out of classrooms, eager to join their respective clubs and activities.
"Today we don't have combat, human anatomy studies, and weapon training," Sonomo announced, stretching her arms with relief. "I'm glad. I hate physical training and things that involve sweating and heating up like a pig," she added with a yawn.
Jenna chuckled softly at Sonomo's candid remark. "That's rude, Sonomo-senpai," she teased, shaking her head fondly.
As the bustling students gradually vacated the classroom, it grew closer to empty. Sonomo bid Jenna farewell and left, leaving Jenna alone in the quiet classroom.
With the sounds of chatter fading away, Jenna found herself alone, surrounded by the peaceful stillness of the empty classroom.

"Well?" Oragaka's voice broke the silence as he entered the classroom, clad in a complete blue glossy loose jumpsuit.
Jenna's heart skipped a beat at the unexpected intrusion. "O-Oragaka-senpai," she stammered, immediately standing up from her seat.
"Ah, I just walked in because... well, don't worry," Oragaka reassured her, noticing her nervous demeanor. He waved his hands frantically, trying to dispel any tension that might have arisen from his sudden appearance. "I-I'm sorry," Jenna apologized, bowing to him in a reflexive gesture.
"Hey, hey! I only came here to see if Enoy kept his promise of teaching you the microbiology thing," Oragaka explained, his tone lighthearted.
"Uh... Enoy... Enoy-senpai is not here yet," Jenna replied, her expression troubled.
"Ah, you don't have to think so much about it. If he doesn't show up, just give him a call," Oragaka suggested casually, as if it were the simplest solution in the world.
"C-call?" Jenna repeated, feeling a bit lost.
"Here," Oragaka said, reaching into his pocket and retrieving a small bottle cap-like structure, which seemed to have an even smaller button on it. He placed the gadget in Jenna's hand, guiding her gently. "You know how to use it, right?" he asked, his touch comforting yet firm.

"Technology has made it easy. No?" Oragaka remarked, breaking the silence as Jenna held the small communication device in her hand.
"Will he... will he always stay like that?" Jenna asked hesitantly, her thoughts drifting to Enoy's troubled demeanor.
"I'm not sure, Jenna. He went through a lot," Oragaka replied with a touch of solemnity, his gaze lingering on Jenna for a moment before he turned and walked away, leaving Jenna to ponder his words.

Jenna stared at the call buzzer intently, her mind swirling with uncertainty. Should she make the call or not? Would it make Enoy feel uneasy?
"Don't want to study?" a voice suddenly interrupted her thoughts, causing Jenna to startle. She looked up to see Enoy standing nearby, his presence unexpected yet oddly comforting.
"Huh?" Jenna glanced around, trying to locate the source of the voice until she spotted Enoy standing right in front of her. "Enoy-senpai," she exclaimed, quickly standing up to greet him, her seat remaining stationary for the moment.
"Yes," Enoy replied, his expression calm as he stood before her. "I got you the extra notes. It always helps."
"Uh... um... err... thank you, Enoy-senpai," Jenna stammered, feeling a rush of gratitude for his thoughtfulness.
"No problem. Now, if you'll excuse me," Enoy said, nodding politely before turning to leave.
"Senpai! I mean Enoy-senpai, why did you keep your promise?" Jenna blurted out suddenly, unable to contain her curiosity any longer. However, Enoy didn't respond, nor did he turn to look at her as he disappeared behind the doors to the classroom, leaving Jenna with her unanswered question hanging in the air.

Location: southern JEO headquarters, Japan, Central Tokyo
Date: 29th July
Time: 5:00 pm
Time ticked away slowly as the agents stood in line, a sense of anticipation hanging in the air. They were assembled together with the UA unit, awaiting a command from Semen for what they assumed was an important mission. However, Semen merely continued pacing with his hands folded behind him, as if waiting for someone or something.
Shibuyu stood at the front of the room, his gaze fixed on the orderly lines of agents, creating a tense atmosphere that made Kagaro, one of the agents, feel uneasy.
After a while, Awara, appeared, drawing Semen's attention. "Where are they?" Awara inquired, his tone laced with authority as he clenched a silver thin tube between his teeth. He gripped the tube with two fingers and exhaled smoke from his mouth, a gesture that seemed to add to the gravity of the moment.
"Captain Kagaro Riyu. Unit 9 will welcome two new recruits today," Semen announced upon Awara's arrival. Kagaro responded by stomping his right foot on the floor and saluting Awara in a display of respect.
"And she will be our secret weapon, since she too is a teenager like you," Awara mentioned, his words carrying a weight of significance. Despite Kagaro's status as both the captain and a special agent within the JEO, he couldn't help but feel a sense of discomfort at the idea of involving teenagers in their line of work, despite being one himself.
"Another little girl," Kagaro muttered under his breath, ensuring that the movement of his lips went unnoticed. However, Awara's keen sense of hearing caught every word clearly.
"Anyone who can fight and is above thirteen can join the JEO, Captain," Awara reminded him firmly.
"Yes, sir," Kagaro responded slowly, acknowledging Awara's authority.
"Let's welcome Jenna Ornard," Awara announced, prompting Kagaro's attention. As he heard the familiar name, Kagaro couldn't help but flinch slightly. His gaze shifted to the approaching figure of Jenna Ornard, and he felt his jaw drop in shock.
"You are-" both Jenna and Kagaro began simultaneously, their eyes meeting in surprise as they took a step back.
"You know each other?" Awara inquired, noticing the unexpected reaction from the two of them.
"Of course, we do," one of the girls replied, her voice trembling slightly as she too grappled with the sudden revelation.
AGENT SHIMIN JAIENTA
FOURTEEN YEARS OLD
SPECIAL MEMBER OF UNIT 9 OF UA UNDER KAGARO RIYU
STAR BEARER
STAR - MOICHI (MALE)
"Ah... you are Nimishi-senpai, and you are Oragaka-senpai," Jenna exclaimed, her astonishment evident in her voice.
"Actually, it's Kagaro..." Kagaro attempted to correct her, but Jenna interrupted him.
"Ka-ga-ro? Or-ag-ak? Oragaka," Jenna said, trying to decipher his name, only to be taken aback by her own realization. "You jumbled up the letters in your name, Senpai," she pointed out, her finger directed at him.
"I didn't commit a crime for you to point at me like that!" Kagaro snapped, his irritation evident as he responded to Jenna's gesture.
Their brief exchange sparked a moment of lightheartedness, but the tension among the agents quickly returned as they realized the implications of Kagaro and Jenna's familiarity with each other. A silence descended upon the group, with no one uttering another word.

As the seconds slipped by, Jenna cautiously broke the silence, her footsteps echoing softly as if treading on eggshells. "You are Nimishi... Ih-si-mi-n? Ihsimin? Ih... no... um... Shimin?"
"Yeah, Shimin. You've got a knack for word puzzles, huh?" she replied with a giggle.
Jenna shrugged modestly. "I just said whatever made sense to me... wait... if Ora-- Kagaro-senpai and Shimin-senpai are here, then Enoy-senpai is here too?"
"Yes, ma'am," Kagaro confirmed with a respectful bow, while Jenna gripped her uniform tightly, feeling a flutter of nervousness.
"Well, since you three know each other, training shouldn't be a problem," Awara remarked, placing his pipe on the table, tendrils of smoke swirling lazily from his lips. "So... Yone will be here in a while. That guy... I'm not sure what he's so busy with," he muttered under his breath.
"If you guys are done being useless, then please pay attention now. You too, Jenna, and miss... uh... her sister, I'm going to assume?" the man asked, glancing at the young lady standing behind him.
"Yes, I'm Momoko Ornard," she replied calmly.
MOMOKO ORNARD
"And that you are. Join the line," he instructed, his tone firm.
Jenna and Momoko obediently entered the organized lines as ordered by Awara, while Semen silently observed the scene unfold. Thirty minutes into Awara's briefing, Yone finally arrived. With a simple bow to the two new teammates, he ignored Awara's bitter glare and proceeded to begin the training session.

"You are a Star Bearer, Jenna?" Kagaro's voice boomed, echoing through the room.
Jenna's eyes widened in surprise, and she swallowed nervously before replying, "Yes, sir. I mean, yes, Kagaro-Senpai, uh, Captain Kagaro Riyu."
"Impossible! How is that even possible?" Kagaro's disbelief reverberated in his roar, his eyes fixed intently on Jenna.
