Shit Storm
Jana stumbled down the short ladder, her eyes blurry as she made her way back down into the sewer like a scared little rat and she was scared. She was scared because it had finally dawned on her where she was. The fear that had struck Octavius a couple hours ago had finally struck her and it was paralysing because those twins, they were sick.
"What did you see" his hands digging into her shoulders as he tried to bring her mind back to the present but she couldn't because those noises.
Her imagination had worked furiously until what was happening above her became a reality. She knew what they were doing up there, doing to Sonja because that wasn't Carina. Carina wasn't a traitor and she wasn't stupid, she wasn't part of the Resentiam and she was not a pet dove to any human. She had a mate and the pack meant something to her.
That hadn't been her but there was this voice screeching loudly in her ears asking what if it was.
"They are torturing her, I think... I think they raped her" she sobbed, her hand covering her mouth as she tried to muffle those sounds.
"Who? Are they- do you mean Carina?" He asked hesitantly fearful of the answer he would receive but Jana merely shook her head, words too hard for her to form.
"Then who? Jana"
"Sonja," she croaked her eyes sore and her heart full of bitterness. She hated Sonja with a passion, that woman had betrayed the pack and had hurt Zosia. She hadn't physically but one of those two followers had hurt the little girl under her command. Even so, rape, that was... it was unfathomable.
One could say it was the will of the gods, Karma and retribution. She was betrayed by those she had betrayed for but still, being raped and by an inanimate object. Her head felt light at the imagery, at the burning that Sonja must feel in her womb.
It was an eye for an eye but the gods always took more. Sonja had taken children from Jana and now the gods would take her life, retribution was never evenly played out.
"Fuck, what do we do now," his hair gripped in his hands as he stomped through the water, waste flying up in the air.
"We need to find Carina" before she faced the fate of Sonja if she hadn't already.
"Let's head back this way and see if we can find another way up," her knife pointing back in the direction they came as she began walking in that direction. Boots splashing through the sewage water but Octavius wasn't following, he stood tall with arms folded and a glare in his eyes, "And do what," he spat.
"Just run around their base in hope that we find her before we are brutally butchered to death? No thanks"
It definitely wasn't one of her smartest ideas but they need to get to Carina before they began her torture if they hadn't already and they needed to get out. The longer they stood around twiddling their thumbs the more likely they would be caught.
Her teeth ground in annoyance as she spun around to face him"Listen here you lit-" her words stumbled to a hasty halt as her ears perked up, her head shooting up as she looked toward the ceiling.
"What is that noise"
There was a shrill ringing in the air that vibrated on such a high frequency as red light flashed through the grater. Her boots splashed in the water as she ran back to the ladder, peering through the grate as she looked out into the room. Metal clanged on the floor and then black boots were running over the grate and stomping out of the room, voices hushed and mumbling to each other. A tinge of panic and excitement in their words.
"They are here," she sighed, a grin on her face even as the sounds of gunshots and shouting rung above her.
"Let's go" she murmured, slowly pushing up the grate as she peered through the hole in the floor.
Her head swung to the left and the sight of the limp body had her heart thudding and her nose burning. Blood dropped from between her legs as she hung there, skin pale and bruised. Lacerations and cuts all over her swollen body and face.
Jana scrambled out of the ditch and slowly approached the dying body, her chest wheezing and blood trickling from her lips as she coughed causing blood to gush from her wounds.
"Sonja" she whispered.
Her weak head head tilted up, her teeth caked in obsidian as she grinned in Jana's direction but delirium was in her eyes. Blood that resembled tar dribbled from her mouth as tears glided down her face, her head bobbing forwards as she dangled on a beam. Her hands were red, raw and torn up as the silver cuffs burnt into her skin, leaving bleeding rings. The only ring she would receive from her lover.
"What's going- on" he gasped in shock at the sight of Sonja, patches of her hair were missing and parts of her skin were cut so bad they could the pink of her bleeding flesh and the startling white of her bone.
Jana hesitantly stepped towards her, her voice calm as she began her questioning "Sonja, I need to know who did it,"
It didn't matter that the people who had hurt Zosia were dead already, it didn't matter that Sonja was in her way to deaths door or that alarms were ringing and flashing telling them that they needdd to go. It didn't matter, what mattered was that she needed to know. She needed that peace of mind, not the what ifs that would hang over her head for the rest of her life. She would get it anyway she could even if she had to pry the words from the dying woman's lips.
Her voice croaked, blood gurgling in her throat as she tried to speak. Her lips turned red as blood slid from her nose, her eyes turning white as her body spasmed.
Her head bobbed forwards as if she was motioning for Jana to come closer, her eyelids fluttering as white peeked though her lashes. "Mmm" she hummed, her jaw clenching as she tried to pry her teeth apart so her tongue could move and clear sounds could come out.
"Mmaa" she chocked, blood splattering to the floor with a wet smack.
Stepping closer, Jana ripped a piece of her top and began dabbing at Sonja's torn and bloody lips, pushing her sweaty hair away from her skin.
"Here" grunted Octavius, his hand extending out with a small flask of water. Jana did a double take at the gun that was now clenched in hand that had somehow manifested out of thin air
"Standard issue it only shoots silver but a bullet is a bullet to a human" he shrugged dismissively, turning his back to her as he stood century at the front door, his body tense in preparation.
"Drink" murmured Jana, bringing the bottle to Sonja's lips and sliding the cool liquid along her mouth. Her chest rattled with the struggle to breathe, her eyes widening as she tried to drink the water.
Jana tilted the bolted higher but Sonja yanked her head back, "Mmaa," she hummed, "Nnnma" her cheeks damp with tears.
"Shhh, it's okay" her fingers gentling along Sonja's skin.
She didn't need to say anything more, Jana knew the name, she only wished that Noma had died a worse death.
"We have to go" shouted Octavius, his gun waving as he pointed to the door and the pounding footsteps that were approaching the door. The gunshots and grunting was getting closer and closer to them, they had to leave now.
Jana's head nodded as she stared to Sonja one last time, the sight of her desecrated body emblazoned into her mind.
"Let's go."
Then they were off, moving along the corridors like shadows. Ducking and weaving through the dimly lit hallways and rooms, bodies tense as they tried to avoid the fight going on.
They had one goal and one goal only, get Carina and leave that was all they needed to do.
Running down the stairs, she covered Octavius' back as he led the front with his gun cocked and ready but when the time came he froze. The woman had her gun cocked, the sling pulled back as she prepared to shoot them and Ocatavius froze, his hands fumbling as he stared in fear. The gun triggered and the bullet richocheted through the air, it was a split second and then they were dropping to the floor.
Her arm burning with the force of the drop as the shot rang in her ears, vibrating and vibrating through her body. Black boots stepped into her eye sight and then knees bent as a face appeared. Hand out stretched and black in her hands as the dark eyed and dark haired female stared at Jana as if she were something fascinating.
"Don't lay there all day," she chuckled her black gloved hand stretching out to grip Jana's arm. She yanked her to her feet before making her way over to Octavius and pulling him up.
"I'm Zaiyla, I came with Kyle and the troops. We have express orders to get youse and anyone else on our side out of her before this tanker blows. Stay close on my heel because I move fast"
They both nodded their heads slowly before they shot off after her, Jana taking one last look at the body splayed out and bleeding on the stairs. Lifeless eyes and mouth hanging wide, that had been close. Way too close.
Boots thudded on the concrete floor as they chased after Zaiyla, she normally wasn't so trusting but Zaiyla hadn't been shooting at them and though this could have been ploy she had mentioned Kyle. That name may have meant nothing to Octavius but to Jana the mention of his name was like a shelter in the storm.
Khan didn't have many friends and most of them she had never met in her life, like Simeon who had just appeared out of the woodworks, but Kyle she knew. He was her father's right hand man, she wasn't sure what it was they always spoke about but it was always serious. There were probably a hundred thousand Kyle's in the world but she knew it was their Kyle because she had sent a message to her brother and it appeared that he had rallied an army to come and get her.
"This way," called Zaiyla, her hand waving as she bent round a corner and ushered them quickly into a door. Big arms wrapped around Jana as her head thudded into a chest.
"Seriously Jana, I grow tired of always having to save you" grumbled the deep voice above her.
"Well you wouldn't be my big brother if you didn't," she sniffled, burying her head into his arms and rubbing her nose along his clothes, taking in the unique scent that made up her big brother Caillum.
"Oh, well I guess I should just be made redundant. Who needs me when they have Caillum.. we might as well go home Kai" huffed Roark, his arms flying out as he made his way to the door as if he would march out the room.
"Come here you little primadonna," chuckled Jana, snagging Roark by the collar of his top and yanking him into her arms.
He was taller than her, but his arms were still gangly as he began to fill out. At twenty years old Roark was the splitting image of his father, cocoa skin, dark hair and dark lashes framing his piercing Hazel eyes. He was Khan's son through and through, though his temperament was a lot more like Neema's, thank the gods for that.
"Come on Kai, join the fray. Lets make it a group hug" he chimed, opening his arms for Kai to slide in, his golden skin standing out against Roark's darker tone. His grey eyes stared down at Jana as he murmured in her ear, hugging her tightly as he soothed her with just his presence.
"If you are done with your soppy moment we have things to do, like get out of here before this place explodes," grouched Kyle his dark coal skin glistening with sweat as he glared at them, his scars flexing with his ferocious stare.
"Aww you can join the hug too uncle Kyle" grinned Roark, cheeks dimpling as he spread his arm wide to make room.
"Im not your fucking uncle and I don't want a hug. So if your done faffing about we need to go" he spat.
Zaiyla snorted in Roarks direction, her tongue wagging out as she mocked him, Roark snapped his jaws at her earning him a smack around his head by Kyle.
"Enough, this is a serious situation and I don't need you kids acting like- well kids." He growled, fists clenched as he stormed off and made his way further into the room where he bent down and picked up a bloody body.
"Carina," gasped Jana, disentangling herself from her family as she stepped towards her. Her hands shaking as she reached out to touch her but snatched it back before she could. The woman look d as if she had been trampled on, her skin black and blue with bruises. Blood dropped from her open wounds as she hang listlessly in Kyle's arms.
"She's alive but she needs a healer," he murmured sombrely, clenching her tightly in his arms.
"Okay, let's go" she croaked, looking a round the room and taking in all the faces of her family members. They were here because of her. Her impulsiveness had put them in danger and now they too could get hurt.
"It's okay ladybug, I'm made of tuff stuff" murmured Roark, flexing his arms before he charged off after Kyle, a gun manifesting out of thin air as he disappeared out the the door at the end of the room.
"Yeah right, he's a pansy and we all know it" snorted Kai before he charged off after them, a silver katana brandished in his hand. Zaiyla was hit in his heels, love hearts in her eyes as she stuck close to Kai.
"You two, I'll cover your back" said Caillum, the butt of his gun nudging at her back.
"Thanks for coming"
"As if I had a choice," he grunted, teeth gleaming as he smirked at his her, his violet blue eyes sparkling.
But he did have a choice because he hadn't been the only person she had messaged. She had messaged Simeon but he hadn't responded. It was the final straw, if she had needed a reason to see he didn't care then this was it.
Her heart shattered for what felt like the thousandth time, he wa was always hurting her but it was over now because once they made it out of here alive she would be returning born with her family. They were all that mattered in thher end.
Her mind whirred as they snuck around corners, their guns popping off at each unfamiliar face they saw, creating a clear path between them and the exit. They turned down for corridor after corridor, trudging through the maze until they reached a small grate in the floor.
"Caillum, you down first and then take her. I'm last" commanded Kyle. Caillum slid down the hole as they all stood around anxiously waiting, weapon barred in preparation.
"It's clear, give her to me" and then Caillum was disappearing back down the grate with Carina in his arms. One by one they climbed down the ladder but as Jana made her way into the dicth she caught the sight of long black limp hair swinging about as she sprinted down the corridor clutching her silver knife.
Jana reacted without thinking, her hand wrapping around the barrel of Kyles gun as she yanked it from his hip, her hand steadied and then she aimed.
Bodies thudded to the flour, one limp and lifeless and the other wailing in despair as she clutched at the body of her twin. Her wailing ringing over the balring noise of the sirens.
"Get down," shouted Kyle as he forcefully shoved Jana down the ladder before he slid in after her, the grate clanging closed to the sounds of Narika's wails.
"Move it, we don't have long" he thundered, a he began sprinting through the murky water.
They were running against time, their hands pumping fast as they sprinted towards the light. Her heart was thudding and her chest wheezing with breathlessness but she kept moving. Her arms swinging as the light got brighter and brighter and then she was being bathed in it. Sharp sunlight kissing her skin as the ground began to shake beneath them.
"Get down" screamed someone, the voice disjointed as the world split and fire exploded around them. The building crumbling and debris flying through the air as they fell flat to the the floor. The earth crumbled around them in bursting colours of yellow and orange, a loud humming noise in her ear as everything became blurry.
"Is everyone okay" called a voice, it sounded like Caillum and so she responded, more voices climbing up to respond until it sounded like everyone was okay though she couldn't see through the debris to make sure.
She rolled to a sitting position, flicking the dust away from her face as she looked around, taking in the wreckage that had once been the Resentiam base.
"What took you so fucking long," the words rolling with that foreign accent that had her heart beating double time.
"Simeon?" She choked, tears lining her eyes.
"Jana, gods I couldn't find you... I couldn't find you" he cried, eyes wide in shock and relief as he stumbled towards her and tried to touch her face.
His hand was slapped away forcefully as three tall bodies stepped in front of her, forming a protective shield that prevented Simeon from getting in.
"Don't you dare touch her, your kind has done more than enough" spat Caillum, his eyes darkening as he snarled in Lian's direction.
Her cheeks turned pink before she hastily looked away, a sadness in her eyes that was noticeable to her brother. Ju-long stepped forward, sliding beside Simeon as he pushed his sister behind him. Testosterone so strong in the atmosphere that she was practically chocking on it.
"Well this is just turning into a right shit storm," she grunted, climbing to her feet and attempting to make her way through the manmade brick wall in front of her to diffuse the situation.
They didn't budge, no surprise there.
