Rileys Ridge
"Foot up... No, not left. I said up" Jana grunted, slapping the females leg so she could right the offending limb. When it only bent further towards the ground she felt her eyes rolling backwards "Gods give me strength" she huffed.
Slapping the females leg one more time, she stepped back kissing her teeth at the wobbling female. They had been at this training for quite a few hours and the woman still couldn't get the simple logistics of a high kick.
"This is up" her foot struck up like a whip as she kicked into the air "and this what you are doing" her foot slanted down into a small arch, barely lifted off the floor.
Her abdomen pulsed with the movement but she gritted her teeth. She found that the more she moved the more she got used to the small pangs of pain, plus the blood transferring had been helping. She felt a lot healthier than she should have at this point, though mentally she couldn't say the same.
"Not everybody is as flexible as you" growled the grey scarfed woman, strands of her darker hair hanging out. Her top lip was slick with sweat as she tried to balance in one foot and stick her foot higher in the air.
"I just recovered from an injury lady, you have no excuse" her words only earned her grunts of annoyance from the smaller woman but Jana didn't care. She had warned carina that she wouldn't train her half heartedly. She had initially thought the woman had asked her to help with training as a way to distract her and maybe she had but Jana wanted to make sure that the woman at least took away something.
"Alright, that's it I'm done" she huffed her feet kicking up dirt as she rested the limb back onto the ground. Whopping the dampens from her face as she heaved a deep sigh.
"Your done? Fine let me go find Simeon then" sung Jana, spinning on her heels and marching off.
"Wait, no you still haven't tought me that arm thingy," carina called, voice wavering with indecision and panic.
"What arm thingy," questioned Jana arms folded across her chest as she faced the flustered woman before her.
The woman started flapping her arm in front of her, thrusting her hands forwards as she tried to imitate Jana "The one where you-"
"This one?" Jana growled, her hand wrapped around Carina's outstretched arm, swung it to the side and yanked it behind Carina's back. Pulling so tightly that the arm was a small tug a way from being broken.
"That one" she squeaked, tip toeing so she could try and relieve some of the pressure but Jana only tugged harder.
"What's going on?" She questioned but Carina only grumbled under her breath, shuffling as she tried to dislodge Jana's hold.
Jana's free hand cane around the front of Carina's neck, so they were now back to front with Carina's air supply being comprised by the chokehold she found herself in.
"Speak up."
"Fuck sake," she spat, her tears dripping onto Jana's arm as she tried to breathe.
"They're - holding- a meeting," she gasped.
"Who?"
"Alphas, Warriors" she wheezed her eyes stinging with the lack of air.
Carina collapsed to the floor as soon as Jana let her go, her hand gripping her neck as sucked in large gulps of air.
"What the fuck is wrong with you" she screeched, still kneeling on the floor but her face looking a lot more alive than it had looked before.
"Don't hide things from me," Jana strugged, unbothered by Carina's anger.
"Now tell me, where are they holding it" Carina stood to her feet but refused to speak a word, her arms folding as she stared Jana down.
"I don't want to force you to speak, but I will" her face was dead straight as she took a slow and threatening step towards Carina.
"For gods sake must you always be a bitch! They are in the armoury" her hand waving in that direction as she cut her eye at a smug Jana.
"Thanks love" she called, chuckling out loud at the retreating sound of Carina's cursing.
She couldn't believe Simeon had the audacity to leave her out of such an important meeting, she would have understood if it was for the alphas but it wasn't. From what she managed to pry from Carina it seemed that every warrior had been encouraged to attend, it just made sense that as his mate he would have told her. The least he could have done was mention it but no, not Simeon.
Her feet stomped across the ground as she made her way across the camp and to the armoury. The flaps were pulled tightly closed but she could still hear the arguing and shouting from outside.
Bracing herself for what was to come, she pushed the flap slightly open and slipped in. Hardly anyone noticed her enter, only a few people at the back gave he rid looks but the rest were too concerned with what was being mentioned by one male.
Her eyes scoured over the place, skimming over the strong male form of Simeon and taking in the sight of that third alpha she rarely saw and for good reason.
She didn't like him and the feeling was mutual, the red head alpha who went by the name of Blake was one of her biggest adversaries. He only came second to Keith and Jared and both males were also present. Though Keith seemed to glare a little less now that his mate Carina had befriended her.
"So it has been revealed to us by a very-" he stopped and looked at Simeon, a smirk on his face as he rubbed a this chin "distressed... source that they reside at Rileys ridge"
"It's a land to the north and is the only Resentiam settlement that we actually know of."
Hooting and howling filled the tent, as a holographic image of Rileys ridge from gods knows when appeared on the screen. The minute Jana saw it she knew something was up. They didn't have an accurate picture and if this was the model they were planning to attack with then they would horrendously fail.
"So what's the plan" grunted a man with jet black hair and broad shoulders. She couldn't see much about him just that he appeared to be white and that his legs were crossed over each other as he slouched in his chair.
"This building is their main base, we need to infiltrate this." He circled the 10 storey building with a small remote but even without it the main building was clear to see. Most of the other buildings were about one story high but the main building was ridiculously taller than the ones surrounding it.
"Ju-long will send out a wave that will deplete their signal."
"It will be easy, from the dish attached to the building I can tell they are running on some old world generic shit," interjected Ju-Long a cocky smile across his face as he waved dismissively at the image.
"And then what? Are you just going to charge in?" Scoffed Jana as she made her way from the back of the room, through the crowd and towards the front.
She could hear the warriors whispering under their breaths but her question wasn't for them, it was for the three Alpha's that stood at the front and thought they knew it all.
"Jana" growled Simeon but he was interrupted by Blake.
"Yes, the wave will shut off their lights and alarm systems. It will be only too easy to rip them apart" he glared at her, that nasty glare that he often gave her behind Simeon's back.
"Yeah sure, and how exactly are you going to do that?" she questioned again trying to weed out the tiny details.
"He just said how, we are going to rip those fuckers apart" growled the same dark haired male who had been speaking before. He twisted around to face her and Jana's mouth dropped open.
He had extensive scarring covering his right eye but his left eye stared back at her, an unnerving grey colour.
"If them fuckers are there, then I'll fucking kill them all even if it's the last thing I do."
"Well It likely will be the last thing you do" she grumbled, arms falling across her chest even as the male climbed to his feet and charged in her direction.
"The fuck you say girl?" He growled, his face screwed up in a snarl.
"You heard me, I said it will likely be the last thing you do if you going marching into Rileys Ridge with your shitty half assed plan." The male stopped mid charge and cocked his head back, confusion written all over his face.
"You think you can just march into Rileys Ridge and tear them apart? They will desecrate you!"
She could see them shifting, hackles rising as they sized her up as if she were a threat. She caught the sight of Simeon shifting closer to where she was but she stood her ground.
"I don't know who sent you that image of Rileys Ridge but they are setting you up, because that is not Rileys Ridge. Well not fully" the image they had was a quarter of what the settlement looked like.
"What do you mean" murmured Ju-Long his head tilted to the side as he queried her.
"Rileys Ridge is a fucking trap, that's why the "distressed" prisoner blabbed to you guys" she mocked, her fingers making inverted coma signs as she glared straight at Blake.
"You needed information and he gave you it but it was a trap because he knew you guys would go marching in there on your high horse and think you could run shit. Not knowing that Rileys Ridge is one of the only human rebel settlements built overground!" She shouted, pointing at the half completed image they had of the settlement.
"And it remains that way because everyone who tries to attack ends up more dead than alive if they even make it out in the end."
"Well we are-"
"Don't interrupt me" she growled, scowling at the insignificant male who thought he knew better than her.
"What that image conveniently doesn't show you is that Rileys Ridge was built in the ditch of a nuclear bomb. The settlement is in the centre and the only way to get in is to go down." Her hand imitating the motion of going down an incline.
"But when you come over the ridge..." her hand made an exploding gesture as she went silent.
Rileys Ridge was a trap and though she didn't know much about this little rogue faction, everybody knew about the Resentiam. And Rileys Ridge was like the beacon for every human who hated the current hierarchy forced upon them by the wolf kind.
Most Alphas didn't bother with Rileys Ridge, no one did but here they were attempting to what? Just march in.
"Fuck sake! It's a trap!" Shouted the Blake haired male, his foot kicking out and striking down a random chair. Jana staggered back a step as the wood splintered in her direction.
"How do you know all this?" Spat Blake still disbelieving as if she had reason to lie about something so important.
"Most humans do, it's a modern day utopia for the rebels. It's a breeding ground for the Resentiam, but I know because Khan let me sit in on a lot of his meetings."
"And my aunty happened to travel that way recently" she added hastily.
She left them to stew on that information while she stared Simeon down, the male shifting through the crowd and drawing closer to her.
She had learnt a lot from sitting in on Khan's meetings but she had learnt the most about Rileys Ridge from Vanya. Vanya had traveled past the settlement a few years back when she had headed that far north to help heal another patient who had been plagued by some rare old world disease.
Jana couldn't remember if she had actually helped the person but what she did remember was the description Vanya had given her about Rileys Ridge. Vanya had said she had seen nothing like it, had never witnessed wolves cower away from a crater in the earth and had never witnessed humans walking about so brazenly beyond compound walls.
The transporter she had been in had glided around the ridge in fear that it's proximity would set off the alarms and draw an attack but from up so high, Vanya had seen a lot. She had seen enough to pique Jana's attention.
Rileys Ridge was an anomaly in this world and though it wasn't exactly common knowledge, everyone in the know should have been aware of its existence. It was worrisome that such a "funded" group would remain oblivious to such information.
"So what else did you learn because I know you have learnt more than what you are sharing" murmured Simeon as he saddled up to her side, his arm brushing along hers.
"Well I may have learnt somethings that aren't common knowledge to all." Her words hushed as the two conversed between them and everyone else continued to converse among themselves.
"Do you trust everyone in this room?" She queried her eyes slanting as her head turned towards him, finally taking in the sight of Simeon close up and what a sight he was.
"Everyone out, Blake, J and Jana stay" he quickly dismissed, shutting down any complaints his warriors had. The male with one eye, who she later learned was called Niall glared at Blake before charging from the room. Blake grimaced at the sight, a deep sigh leaving his lips as he turned to face them.
"You okay?" Whispered Ju-Long but his words were not quiet enough for her not to hear. "He'll get over it" replied Blake but his eyes were guilty.
"Everyone is gone now, share what you have to share." Demanded Simeon hastily, shutting down all private conversation the two Alphas were having in the room.
"Khan had a report on Rileys Ridge done not too long ago and-"
"You snooped through this report" Simeon's eyebrow cocked high as he glared at his sneaky mate.
"Yes I did and I noticed something that I don't think many have noticed." She replied haughtily, scowling right back at him,
"The place is trap but not only for us but for them as well. On the surface it seems that the only way out is up but say if there is an attack overhead and up top well then they can't climb out"
"Right" nodded Ju-Long his eyes lighting up as if he actually knew where she was going with this.
"So then I thought they can't be that dumb. They must know the nature of their settlement. They have to have created some escape routes."
"Sewage systems" both her and Ju-long said at the same time, though his voice was in awe and hers was matter of fact.
"Yes, there are two old sewage sites on the East and South side of the settlement. They have built underground tunnels that connect to the old systems so they could escape."
"That's smart" murmured Ju-Long
"And no one would suspect a thing because those systems have been there for years. Fuck" cursed Blake kicking at the remaining splinters of wood on the floor.
"Ju-long-"
"I'm on it, you don't even have to say it" and then he was off and out the tent door before Simeon could even say anything more.
"Blake go find Niall, you can tell him what we know but only him"
Blake agreed solemnly before nodding his head at Simeon and then reluctantly at Jana.
"So when do we leave" Jana asked anxiously her hands twisting with nerves at the next turn her life would be taking. It wasn't something she ever imagined she would be doing but she was excited.
"We?" He asked, shaking his head and dismissing the idea of her coming.
"Yes we, I gave you the information and so I am coming!" She spat, pushing on his chest.
His hands came up in a sign of surrender but his words contradicted his actions "And I appreciate your information but you aren't coming, you are needed here more"
"I don't give a shit" her eyes narrowing as she poked his chest much harder. "I have every right to go and you can't stop me"
"Jana" he sighed, clearly not up for the argument that was brewing. "You have nothing to prove" he whispered, his hand wrapping around her jabbing fingers.
"I have everything to prove," she shouted, yanking her hand from his and gripping her neck "this mark won't last forever, it's already fading and will continue to do so because I can't conceive."
"But you are already accepted" he argued, crowding her body against his.
"Not by everybody and we both know it, I have to prove my worth and this is the only way Simeon!" She backed away from him, turning so she no longer faced him.
He was trying to overwhelm her with his touch but she couldn't let him, if she did he would weaken her resolve and turn her into a simpering agreeing fool.
"And what about Zosia? Are you just going to leave her behind?" He murmured, wrapping his arms around her front as he pulled her back towards him.
"If you think she will be fine with her father leaving then what difference will it make if I leave? I'm not her mother" she growled out, annoyed by the guilt he was trying to only on top of her.
She hated that he tried to make her feel guilty for wanting leave but what she hated more was the fact that she did feel guilty. She didn't want to leave Zosia behind, especially not after what had happened but the reality was she couldn't be in both places at once.
"But she loves you" he sighed.
"Her love doesn't make you stay why should it make me stay?" She spat, spinning to face him.
"Is it because I'm a woman or because I am a human?" He was silent.
He gave her no answer, he said nothing at all. Did nothing at all but watch her and she didn't know why.
Deep down she wondered if he kept quiet because he couldn't answer her questions or because he knew she wouldn't like what he had to say.
