Purple and Black
Jana was knackered, absolutely knackered. Last night had been one of the longest nights of her life. She had spent over an hour patching up Simeon and making sure he was healing to her standards before she had allowed him to leave her sight. His arms had been slashed at by silver knives and he had a bullet wound in his shoulder, though that had long began to heal before he had returned.
What worried her was the third degree burn marks he had along his leg, such a wound should have healed quickly but it wasn't an ordinary burn wound. Those damned humans had ambushed them, they had set traps were pails of molten hot silver gushed from the trees.
Many wolves had reached a fate much worse than Simeon. Some had lost sight whilst other had severely damaged faces. They had been induced by the pack doctors and they were going under a severe process under the skin regenerative machine. Though the machines could not indefinitely heal the wounds because silver damaged wolves on a unprecedented level, it could help with some of the scarring.
The main issue was that the machines were a lot smaller than the compound machines meaning that any sort of help was on a much weaker scale. They did not generate nearly half as much energy they needed to physically heal a wolf from such a wound and so the doctors had doped them up on wolfsbane and some other drugs. The warriors were floating higher than the clouds as the doctors spent hours and hours picking out the small flecks of silver imbedded into the grooves of their flesh and skin.
Simeon had refused to use her SRM on his paltry wound, imploring Jana to use the small one her father had given her on someone else. It annoyed her that he wouldn't take the treatment but she only respected him more for his choice. She had reluctantly stopped trying to use it on him and had instead handed it off to one of the three doctors, they needed it more. Instead she had cleaned the deeply burnt part of his skin as best as she could. lightly rubbed a slave over his leg and wrapped it up, she would see to his healing everyday.
Once he had decided he was better, he had bounded off towards wherever all the unwounded warriors were heading. That had been just after the sun had gone down. The sun was casting a red glow over the land as it began its lazy crawl across the sky and Jana had yet to sleep. The camp was still bustling with movement as they all scurried around like worker bees trying to heal the wounded.
No warriors had died yet but many were knocking on deaths door. They could be saved, she had hope that they all could, though she knew many would be scarred for life. Eyes could not be healed after they had become sightless. No machine could fix such irreparable damage, well not any in their possession. Maybe if they had been in a compound they could trie but they weren't. This was their reality.
Jana needed a break. She needed at least 5 minutes in which she could close her eyes and rest her mind. Many had already taken a break once the worst had been taken care of but as the female leader, the luna, Jana had wanted to be the last to stop. Her body was complaining now though. Her eyes were burning and her hands were shaking as she tried to cut open a wide with her knife. the females hand wrapped around Jana's hand. the blood from one females arm.
"It's okay, I can do this. Get some rest." she whispered, taking the packet from Jana's hand and biting it open.
Jana felt bad for leaving but she couldn't have stayed a moment longer, her body was jittery. Crying for the need to sleep and so that was what she would do but first she needed to find Simeon, just to see if he was alright.
She also wanted to see Zosia but she wasn't sure if the children were allowed out of the lesson area yet. Making her way across the compound she took in the deafening silence and the absence of people. Most of the wolves were inside their tents tending to their mates or in one of the main tents helping out with those too severely damaged to heal. A few were around the cockpit, stoking the fire as they seasoned up some meat in preparation of a late dinner/early breakfast.
The query of whether children were allowed out was soon answered when she caught the back of Zosia wondering around the camp. Her small hands dragging along the tents as she walked around aimlessly.
"Hey Zo, where are you going." The little girl spun around quickly at the call of her name, eyes crinkling before her head lowered to the ground. When no reply or movement came from the little girl, Jana stepped closer to her. Crouching down until they were nearly eye level.
"What's wrong, angel." Zoysia's body language was off. She was picking at her nails and refusing to look at Jana, she was timid and shaking to the bone.
Her bottom lip wobbled as she stared down at her clenched hands, "I miss tata," she cried. Her face crunched up and pink as tears filled her green eyes. Her eyes finally met Jana's and the sight nearly brought her to her knees.
"Oh, baby girl. It's okay. Tata is back now," she soothed the little girl. Rocking her back and forth in her arms. Peppering kisses along her hairline as she inhaled the sweet smell of the little angel in her arms.
"Do you want to come see Tata with me?" she spoke into her neck, moving her head back so she could try and catch the little girls eyes again. Her eyes remained downcast but her lashes blinked rapidly as her head bobbed yes.
"Alright lets go," standing upright she grasped Zosia's shaking hand in her own and began the walk to wherever Simeon had disappeared to.
They wandered around the camp for a few minutes, popping into the infirmary and into the armoury. When she couldn't find him there, she knew where he would be. Tapping the little girl on the nose, they turned on their heels and made their way to the tent that most rarely entered. It was the only tent that pack members were encouraged not to enter and that was because it was the Alpha room.
The three Alphas that were in charge of their camp had a tent that was dedicated purely to their planning and thinking. It was a place where they could be separated from the pack to discuss and disagree on issues before they stepped before the pack as one united front.
It was painted a dark red and easily stood out amongst all the other cream coloured tents. Outside the tent was a bench where anybody who requested to see the Alpha's could sit while they waited for the decisions to be made. She could hear loud talking from inside and though she couldn't quite discern if any of the voices were Simeon, she assumed one was and decided to wait them out.
"So I think tata is inside but he sounds busy, so lets just wait for a bit. Okay" she questioned Zosia even though she had already begun to sit on the bench, her head leaning back as her eyes closed. Zosia hesitated for a bit before she quickly rushed over and sat down next toJana. Her bum wriggling as she sHifted closer and closer to where Jana sat.
"Come her silly," she chided, prying her eyes open and pulling Zosia under her arm. A deep sigh escaping her lips as she felt Zosia rest her head against her heart.
"Zosia, move away from that kurwa now." bellowed Sonja, jarring Jana from her nap and making Zosia jump in her seat. The girl shivered by Jana's side but she prepared to move towards her aunty.
Jana stuck her arms out to stop her from moving "Don't speak to her like she's some dog!" Her teeth gritting as she held back the urge to thump the woman across the head.
"You shut up, you abusive bitch" Sonja's eyes bulging in fury as she screeched in anger.
Jana was bewildered. Her sleep deprived mind was taking its time to grasp the words that the woman was screaming at her in a thick Polish accent. Her eyes beading together as she finally understood the filth the woman was speaking. The woman was crazy. "What are you talking about?"
"Oh now you play dumb. Now that people are around." Her arms spun wide as she gestured to the people who had begun leaving their tents. They dwindled around the slightly secluded area, pretending to be busy but their ears perked up to hear their rising voices.
"I don't know what you're taking about!" Jana's head twisted around taking in all the familiar faces of this pack. Panic rising as some dared to meet her eyes, question her without words.
"No? I'm talking about the bruises you placed along my nieces body you fucking whore!"
Her world tilted on its axis, the words melting over her brain as her face shifted towards the small girl who cowered beside her. "What?"
"Zosia show me your arms." She murmured her hand stroking against Zosia's pale blonde hair. Her green eyes held fear as tears gathered in their depths. "It's okay love, no one will hurt you. I just need to see your arms."
She hesitated for a moment, her brows knitting and her nose wrinkling in concentration. Her eyes shifted down towards her lap, Jana's eyes following as she took in the way Zosia was clawing at her hands.
She could hear Sonja screeching in the background but she pushed that noise aside, it was only background noise. Zosia was so much more important than anything Sonja had to say.
"That's it, shh it's okay." She wrapped her arms around Zosia, trying to comfort the little girl but it was impossible because Jana's heart was shattering inside. What kind of monster, evil and deplorable person could harm a little girl this way. Zosia's wrist was purplish-black from where someone had gripped her too tightly and small splatters of lightly pink and pinched skin climbed up her arm.
"Don't pretend like you care, you did this," her finger pointing to Jana as she continued shouting obscenities and expletives at her.
"Are you crazy? Why in gods name would I hurt Zosia." She was standing now, her body a few paces away from the chair. Zosia slowly climbed from her seat, her feet shuffling to the side as she tried to move into the growing crowd of people.
Sonja's mouth opened and closed, no explanation falling from her lips but her conviction deep in her eyes. "I don't know but you did it!" she had no proof and she never would because Jana would never harm a hair on Zosia's head
"Are you mentally challenged?" she spat, "I would never lay a finger on Zosia. I love her as if she were my own." Jana was livid, her skin was boiling with the amount of rage she felt channeling though her body. How dare she!
"But she's not, she's my sisters daughter and it is my duty as her aunty to protect her from you." She growled pulling Zosia's retreating form from the crowd.
Zosia tumbled across the floor, her knees scraping as her Sonja pulled Zoysia's body towards her. The sharp tang of blood filled the air as the girls knees ripped open.
Her wailing was what finally caught Simeon's attention. He ripped the tent doors open, his nostrils flaring and his eyes roving until they caught sight of his daughter.
"What happened to your legs Zosia" thundered Simeon, the growls trapped in his throat as his jaw twisted and his canines poked through his shifting mouth. His eyes dilated into yellow slits as his body began to grow in size
"That deranged sociopath dragged her across the floor."
Sonja shifted back, Zosia still in her grasp as she glared at both Jana and Simeon."That's not true, I was trying to protect her."
"From what?" scoffed Jana, her hands fisting at her side.
"From your abuse!" Screamed Sonja as she roughly shoved Zosia towards him. The little girls green eyes were blown wide as she fell forwards, tears pooling in her eyes as her little lip worried
"Here look" She yanked down the top, a gasp escaping from Simeon's lips before it was shrouded by his reverberating growl. The poor girl had deep blue hand marks all over her body.
"Zosia come here" he commanded causing her to only cry harder. Her arms stretching out towards her father but Sonja pulled her closer to her body.
"Sonja, let her go." His claws poked through his human skin as the third form began to take over his body. He could not control the rage of his beast, he was answering the call and the only way he could be tamed was if he had his daughter in his arms and all danger obliterated. After the past few days he'd had he was restless. His nature was rippling, prowling beneath his skin and demanding he rip through Sonja to get to his daughter.
"Sonja!" His words distorted, mouth crooked and bent as his muzzle and canines began to take form. Pale grey fur rising along his milky skin. Shoulders widening as he prepared to go to war. He wasn't fully healed but he was ready to attack anyway, anything for his daughter.
"That Kurwa did it and you are just going to put my niece back in her hands." Sonja was hysteric, her eyes flickering as she tried to look for an escape from his form. Tears gathering in her eyes in frustration.
No words she said now could calm him down, he needed to hold his daughter in his arms and Sonja's refusal only heightened his rage.
"Release my child," he thundered but the female wasn't listening. She was mumbling under her breath, her head shaking as she looked confused and enraged. She was unhinged.
"SONJA!"
"NO! It should have been me!" She cried, hissing like a viper with her hoarse voice. Her body shuffling to the side, away from the crowd and away from Simeon as she dragged a sobbing Zosia in her arms. Her eyes full of fear as she hastily tried to retreat.
"It should have been me." She gnarled and spat what could only be filth at them in Polish. Her feet kicking up earth as she refused to answer his call even though her nature demanded she yield.
Sonja was erratic, distraught and inconsolable, so much so that she didn't notice Jana had shifted to the side. Her eyes were solely on Simeon and so she missed the moment that Jana made her move, the small knife at her back was pulled free and imbedded into Sonja's shoulder.
She twisted the silver at the same time she grabbed Zosia with her free arm, turning around from the flailing female and pushing Zosia towards her father.
Jana's feet stumbled beneath her as her stomach squelched. Sharp fire traveled through her back and spasmed in her abdomen as she crumpled to the floor. She could hear shouting around her. Screaming and growling as black began to climb over her vision. Her hands clutched at her stomach as a warm liquid flowed from her body. Her life essence dripping to the floor as carnage descended above her.
She felt fingers pawing at her skin as breathing became harder. Her body was becoming numb, ice battling against fire until it won out. She was shivering, icicles poking through her abdomen. White blinding pain splitting her brain every time she struggled to breathe through her mouth and so she stopped. Black spots flickered in and out of her eyes, the light dulling and her sight becoming blurry.
A tanned face was peering at her, lips moving as they called something. She focussed on that white scarf, her lids blinking as she tried to see white. The material was twisted, deep grooves in the silky white as it as wrapped into a knot. It looked like a flower. A big white flower. Like the flower she had planted on Jeremy's grave.
The flower shifted out of her vision, it became smaller and smaller until it was a dot.
A little white dot amongst a vision of black dots. They transposed and moved around her, dancing back and forth until they were one.
One large dot.
She only saw black.
Her mind went blank and then she saw nothing at all.
