Chains
CAUTION!!! A big warning to all my readers, this chapter gets really dark toward the end.
Air whooshed through Jana's lips as the members of the Resentiam dissaperaed into the darkness of the trees like the shadows they were.
"What the-"
"Fuck" growled Octavius, his hands gripping his hair as he began to pace. "Fuck, fuck!"
"We need to go, we need to follow them now"
he whisper shouted, his eyes shifting around as he began to panic.
"I'm not going anywhere until you explain what the fuck just happened!" growled Jana, her arms folding as she refused to move from the spot.
Her mind was scrabbled, completely blown into oblivion. She didn't know what to say, how to process what the hell had just happened. Her mind was reeling in confusion, anger and betrayal. The emotions so potent she could taste them, her body was shot with too much feeling. Confusion clinging to her like thick smog.
"Shit! I don't even even know where to start" he grumbled hands shaking as he stopped pacing. His skin was a deathly pallor as he turned to face her with fear in his eyes.
"Those two were the twins Narika and Marlo, they specialise in torture and other things" he laughed humourlessly, head shaking as he looked as if he would be sick.
"Twins?" She gasped, her voice laden with disgust as bile climbed through her chest, burning it's way through her fingers and onto the forest floor.
They were siblings, relatives, twins and yet they still behaved in such a sexual manner towards each other. She could see it clearly now, they had looked like lovers as they mocked Sonja but they were twins. It was disgusting, they were vile and there was nothing she could say that would ever validate their behaviour.
"Yes and they fuck each other, it's never really been proven but they are known to share people. Just like it's never been proven that they are into devil worship" he spat, face red with contempt.
"Devil worship? But that's a mythical being" she sputtered, floundering as she tried to remember some of the sadistic practices that misguided humans in the old world had practiced.
Belief in the devil as an entity had long since faded, the belief in such a figure was antiquated mainly because the popular belief was that the gods held the balance of the worlds. They were like a scale and wrong doings and good deeds were weighed on the scale of time, tipping back and forth as we progressed in life. Good fortune was given by the gods and so were hardships.
The belief that there were otherworldly beings that were inherently evil or good was a premodern concept, something that belonged in the old world and not this century or even millennia. Beings, human or not, did not worship the devil and in fact such demonic creatures were viweded as mythical stories. Stories told by those in power to enforce fear on the populace as a way to control them.
It was a myth.
"Yes but they believe that since werewolves are the "chosen ones" by the gods that it only makes sense that those in opposition to your kind, worship the gods antithesis. In every Abrahamic religious book there is a reference to the chosen people. A small faction of the Resentiam believe that these chosen people by those gods were the Werewolf kind and so they worship the devil in order to ensure the revival of human domination"
There was a small slither of sense to their reasoning, so minuet it was easy to refute. Their beliefs were based on fiction, no one had ever seen the red being with horns on his head, black eyes and sharp teeth. Such a being had never been seen but there were accounts of relations with the gods. There was a real connection with the gods and her sister was proof of that.
There had never been any proof that the human civilisation had been prosperous in the old world because of the devil worshiping of supposed groups like the Illuminati. In fact those Abrahamic religions that had created the entity of the devil or Satan as some preferred, argued that the "prospering" of human civilisation in the old world was the mark of the end times. The technology that brought the world forward was what would inevitably lead to war and the downfall of human kind, so how could one deduct one fact and not see the flaws of the other. They couldn't.
"It only makes sense that they would go back to their roots as a way to resource power and combat the gods chosen people and that includes sacrifices, scarification and a lot of blood" he winced, feet kicking at the ground as he reiterated everything they had ever taught him.
This could have been him, in fact a few months ago it would have been him. He would have been one of those shadows falling in step behind the twins, spurring on their demonic behaviour or tuning a blind eye. They would have forced him to make a kill, a sacrifice and he would have done it so he too could be shrouded in darkness.
"Shit, I need a moment" heaved Jana, the world tipping a she dropped to her knees and vomited everything inside her empty stomach. Flashes of things she had read along time ago coming into her mind, cannibalism, blood baths.
A cold shiver ran over body, tears gushing from her eyes as she thought of poor Carina.
"We have to go," she mumbled, staggering to her feet as she steadied herself against a tree, struggling to gain her composure.
"We can't just go running through the forest unprepared. Your silver knife won't do much and I'm not really a trained weapon yet" he squeaked, motioning to his still gangly body. He had bulked up a little but his wolf genes were kicking in slowly, very slowly it seemed.
"Just a moment ago you were prepared to go in there charging after them and now you are having second thoughts?" She huffed exasperated, jaw clenching in annoyance at the whimp in front of her.
"Yeah well thinking about the stuff the twins do for fun has definitely made me reevaluate the situation, especially now that they've cleaned house" his words getting quieter and quieter, his words a low tumble as he reached the end of his sentence but Jana heard him clearly.
Her head shooting up in alarm, "What do you mean cleaned house?" She questioned.
"Hello, Octavius what do you mean cleaned house" she spat, her fingers clicking in front of his face when he tried to turn away from her and avoid the conversation.
His eyes shuttered closed as a deep sigh left his lips and then his orbs were staring into hers as he revealed how fucked there situations was quickly becoming.
"Okay, so Sonja was their main point of reference. She was a woman scorned by the man she loved and so she became a traitor in order to get back at him. Through her they were able to recruit Jared and Noma"
"Because she was fucking them both" she spat.
There was that saying that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, well they had been correct because Sonja felt scorned and because of her mental instability she was dragging them all down to the fiery pits with her.
"Yes, this trio was important in establishing a constant way in for the Resentiam. They were always in the loop because these people were pretty high up in the pack dynamic."
Through Sonja and her deceit the Resentiam had been able to always be a few steps ahead of the pack. They had always suspected there was a traitor but three, that was crazy and clearly a sign on how this lifestyle was eroding their natural psyche. Werewolves, much like the animal, were social creatures, they were loyal and typically honest within the pack though there was a sense of hierarchy. However, this life had clearly eroded that sense of social cohesion because there had been three traitors within the pack.
Not one but three.
"They suspected Noma for a while but there was no evidence so they waited to see if she would lead them to the Resentiam"
Hence the scene she had just witnessed and they had clearly missed, "Yeah well no one was here to see it, typical. These alphas leave so much to the unknown" she snapped annoyed with all the cloak and dagger shit.
"Well that's what my tracker was for, in hopes that I would get close enough but I'm not higher ranked enough. They kept moving me about so I wouldn't figure it out but..." his thick lashes flickered up to her as he bit his lip pensively, she could see the struggle in his eyes.
"You know where they are, don't you?" Her brow raising at his poor attempt to withhold information.
"I think so, I'm not 100% sure but I saw something a couple miles south of here..."
He knew a lot of information, they had taken a massive risk by confiding so much in Octavius. For all they knew he could have been another snitch. She doubted it, the boy seemed too soft to do that but still, these were the same people who participated in incestuous relations and drank blood as some sort of a sacrifice to a mythical demonic entity.
Anything went with these people.
"So we either go back and tell the Alphas or we go after them and your tracker will lead them to us,"
That was leaving a lot up to chance and trust and she didn't have a lot in the Alpha's right about now but Carina needed help. They hadn't left all that long ago but the longer she was there then the more likely she would suffer irreparable damages.
Time was of the essence.
He said south. Her nose creased as she thought through her options. Rooting through all the ideas until it became obvious what the only real option was.
"We are heading South but first I need to use your comms device." her hand popped out as she waited for him to hand it over, knowing that he would definitely have one. He reached inside his small bag and reluctantly handed it over.
"You can't message anyone, they'll be able to see what I send because our devices are connected to the main hub."
"Nothing new" she grunted, merely shrugging off his words as she set to work.
Living under the roof of over protective and invasive parents meant that she had learnt some cheats to avoid them poking into her business. Her parents had monitored all of their devices, having regular updates on what databases they were accessing and what and who they were messaging. She was a pro at being undetected and that was because survival dictated it.
Tapping at the screen she pulled up the keypad and hit the square button which gave her a bunch of options. She skimmed through all of the shapes and signs before she found the one she needed, selecting the circle and opening it up. She typed in a short messaged and added the two short digit numbers she needed and then she pressed send.
"It's done, now lets go" she said dryly, chucking the device at him and waiting for him to put it in his bag before they were off.
"You sent them a shape," he huffed, legs working double time to keep up with her fast jog.
"No, the shape creates a secret coding over the words and device it's sent to. They will see a message but it will just seem like you accidentally sent a shape to the last person you contacted. The message is hidden within" she explained, her arms pumping as she swished through the forest. The sun filtering through the trees as their pace picked up the further away from the camp they moved.
The trees rustled with their movement and wild life, leaves and twigs crushing beneath their feet as they traveled for what felt like for lever.
The grass had gotten longer as they moved further down the country and the air was a lot more humid this far down south, there was the tang of salt in the air and birds squawked above them. The sun was merciless as they panted and wheezed for air, taking a much needed break as she checked if any messages had come through.
None.
As her breathing became more regular she began to catch snippets of their surroundings, her eyes widening when she realised where they were. Her hand wrapped around his mouth as she pulled him back further into the trees, her movements slow as they shuffled backwards. Paying extra attention not to make any sudden movements in case the men in green militia outfits saw them as the armed guards stood at the entrance into the building.
When they had backtracked a good few steps she released his mouth, motioning with gestures for him to follow her. His nose twitched and his ears flickered as if he was in his second form and then he was taking over, his nose wiggling as he lead them around trees and bushes.
Her chin jutted into his back when he stopped abruptly, tip toeing over his shoulder so she could see what he led her to. His body crouched low as he began pushing the bushes away and then yanking at arms of wood and then the metal grates that marked the hidden entrance.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me" she grumbled, glaring at the hole in the ground he had led them to. A sewer.
They had gone to ground like the sewer rats they were and now she would be traipsing though human waste just to get into a place that she didn't really want to.
"The things I do" she huffed under he rbrweth before sending off one last message and dropping down into the dank water, her nostrils burning with rancid smell of human faeces and decay.
Poor Octavius looked like he was about to pass out from his over sensitive nose but at least they had found a way in.
Treading lightly through the murky waters, she followed the dim lights, he rinscotnxt telling her when to turn and when to goanteight. The tunnel was long and winding, dark and damp. She could hear the scurrying of the under ground creatures, the whimpering of the young boy behind her as she silently promised herself that she wouldn't do anything reckless.
As much as she wanted to, she wouldn't because she was tired of getting hurt. She was here for one reason and one reason only and she would not be caught in the process.
She quickly squeezed Octavius' hand for support before she climbed the short ladder at the end of the tunnel and peered through a dimly lit hallway or room, she couldn't quite tell from this angle.
The coast was clear and so she began pushing the metal grate to the side but voices began to filter through. She slowly released the grate back into place but peered through the bars, her mouth clenched tight as she controlled her breathing at the sight of the twins.
Narika held a long black cloth in her hands, as if she were holding a child reverently. They stepped further from the shadows and into the light, revealing what was hidden above her.
"Silly, silly female" she chuckled, her hands clenching around the object hidden beneath the cloth, as her brother disappeared. The sounds of rustling and ripping of clothes being drowned out by her mocking voice.
Short whimpers filtering passed her words.
"Did you really think my Marlo, would want you. A filthy little mutt," she tutted, her hand reaching out to stroke at the darkness above Jana.
The whimpering climbed in crescendo, muffled cries joining the fray as slapping sounds filled the air. The air rang with the sound of thumping metal and a grunting male voice, Jana's heart thudding with the scene happening above her.
"Hurry up Marlo, I want to play too" she spat, at that the slapping noises increased and turbulent into angry smacking, the metal clanging in time to every hard smack of skin on skin.
The smacking noises died down to be replaced by forceful thuds, the clang of metal reverberated in the air as each heavy thud earned a wild scream of pain and a even heavier grunt as if he was... a deep guttural sound filled the room and then there was the shuffling of clothes as the sobbing became louder.
"I'm done," he chuckled, big black boots climbing into the fringes of Jana's sight.
"Good" voice smothered by the flickering of tongues as brother and sister kissed as if they were lovers.
"Now it's my turn" she grinned, black cloak falling to the floor as silver glistened in the room.
"Where should I put this first" she whispered, her eyes flickering shut as he sidled up behind her, hands wrapped around her waist and sliding up her body to grip at her breasts before he harshly whispered in her ear.
"Put it where my dove wanted me most" He reluctantly released Narika as she stepped further into the shadows with the silver blade in her hand and black in her eyes.
"She'll never have anything like this again" her eyes glowing as a sharp crack and a godawful scream filled the air.
The silver disappeared and then blood was dripping through the grate and landing on Jana's horror stricken face.
