Chapter 12
(3rd Person)
It was now late at night, (Y/N) was currently sitting on a lone cloud far away from both the town and the mansion while staring up at the clear starry sky. He sighed before suddenly humming silently, a tune that most people would be familiar with, the humming quickly became silent mumbling or singing.
(Y/N): From the day we arrive on the planet...
He quickly silenced himself once he heard someone's footsteps, he looked up to see Koneko looking down at him with a blank look on her face.
Koneko: What you up to?
(Y/N): Relaxing, calming myself down and remembering memories.
Koneko: You were also singing.
(Y/N): You heard that huh? You must have a hell of a good pair of ears.
(Y/N) noticed that Koneko subtly flinched when he stated that, silence passed between them which made an awkward vibe. The awkward vibe was broken by Koneko sitting next to (Y/N), drawing her knees up to her chest and hugging them closer.
Koneko: What song is it?
(Y/N): Huh?
Koneko: The song... the one you were singing.
(Y/N): Just an old song you don't need to know about. Besides, it doesn't make sense unless you know exactly why that song is the only song I can perfectly remember the lyrics to.
Koneko: You never know unless you say.
(Y/N): Sometimes people can be sure.
Koneko: Can't you tell me? I can easily hide secrets.
(Y/N): Why so curious?
Koneko: I'm always curious. Even if President tells me it's bad for me.
(Y/N): You know what they say: curiosity killed the cat.
Koneko suddenly jumped to her feet which caused (Y/N) to turn towards her with a confused look, he momentarily saw a hostile expression on her face, until she quickly calmed down at seeing (Y/N)'s confused one.
Koneko: Sorry...
(Y/N): You're quite sensitive towards cats. Something happened to one you owned or something?
Koneko: Something like that.
(Y/N): Well, unlike you I never pry into people's secrets unless it has something to do with me. You can keep whatever secret that is, so long as you stop trying to pry into my secret.
Koneko: How do you help someone?
(Y/N): Don't try to change the topic.
Koneko: But...
(Y/N): That person you told me about before... Kuroka was it? I decided to do a little research when I had free time, she's quite famous in the Underworld... but... what the records failed to show on her profile was that she has a little sister. Who do you reckon that could be?
Koneko: Someone who hates her...
(Y/N): Heh. Alright, tell you what... I'll make you a deal: I'll tell you that story of the song. And if you're interested... tell me exactly who that sister is.
Koneko: W-what makes you think that I know who...?
Koneko for once gained a nervous look while swallowing as she saw the sudden glare from (Y/N). With a sigh, Koneko nodded and got herself comfortable.
(Flashback)
In the halls of what appeared to be a church, a young blonde-haired girl wearing a nun's outfit sat in one of the chairs praying to the lord with her eyes closed and a small smile on her face. An older nun appeared from the inside of the church, a big smile on her face when she spotted the little girl.
Nun: Asia...
Asia looked up, her green eyes brightly shining upon hearing the woman's voice.
Nun: You may go.
With an excited hop in her step, Asia ran out of the church much to the nun's amusement. The sun shone brightly down on her while she ran through the busy streets of her hometown. Everyone around couldn't help but grow a subtle grin once they saw her happy smile while speeding straight for one destination in mind.
The little nun stopped in her tracks, her smile growing wider while her eyes sparkled as she spotted a familiar boy her age with (H/C) hair, a black jacket and wearing a tank top underneath and wearing a single earring of a white orb in his left ear. He seemed to be focused on the sky above him, not noticing Asia once until he heard the running footsteps.
Asia: Good morning, (Y/N).
(Y/N): Morning, little nun.
With a huff, (Y/N) walked inside the orphanage with Asia following behind... of course, instantly he got jeers and teasing remarks from the other children once they spotted the two walking towards the room they always hung out in. Even the owner of the orphanage watched as the two children walked through the door, she smiled and decided to silently keep watch just in case anyone would dare interrupt their alone time.
Meanwhile, inside the room (Y/N) pushed the button on the TV before reaching for a box under said TV to reveal several cassette tapes.
(Y/N): Go ahead, pick...
He didn't get to finish his sentence as Asia instantly fished out one of the cassette tapes, he raised an eyebrow at seeing he choice.
(Y/N): The Lion King huh?
Asia: It's my favourite one! I absolutely adore the story of how a boy who was cast out decided to forget his worries, and when the time came, he stood up and defended his home against the evil forces!
(Y/N): A cast out, huh?
Asia: Oh... I didn't mean you, I'm sure all the children here are nice to you, right?
(Y/N): Heh, yeah, but sometimes I just feel like I'm the odd one out since no one else here knows about the supernatural, unlike us.
Asia: Hmm... does that make you Simba then?
(Y/N): Sure, I'm the small cub who was cast out and decides to forget his worries. But then decides to finally stand up and become a king after having a chat with his dead Dad.
Asia: If... if you're Simba... does that make me... Nala?
(Y/N): Huh? W-w-what? Ok! Let's not watch it!
But Asia had already inserted the tape into the player, turning back to (Y/N) with a wide smile on her face.
Asia: No way! I want to see the adventures of (Y/N) the outcast lion cub and Asia the best friend of (Y/N) who helps him back on the path he was destined to tread!
And with that, (Y/N) couldn't argue... after Asia used her puppy dog eyes of course. And they watched the Lion King from start to end... about ten times until the sun went down. (Y/N) noticed that whenever Simba or Nala's names were called out Asia called out her own and (Y/N)'s name, replacing the names instantly which got a smile out of him.
(Flashback End)
(Y/N): She saw the film as a way to cheer me up, reminding me that even though I lost my parents I could still become a good person. From then on, she eventually made it tradition that we watch the film at least three times every day. And she also made me rename Simba to myself and Nala to her name... not only that but she decided to call it... the Human King.
Koneko: So... Asia was basically trying to get you to not fall for revenge.
(Y/N): Basically... but... after her outcasting, Asia started to slowly fall down a dark path herself. I brought her back the only way I could, by watching the Lion King and calling Simba Asia and Nala (Y/N). It turned from a film about lions into a film that represented both of us, we both became Simba.
Koneko: But... that doesn't explain the reason for the song you were singing.
(Y/N): It's a song from the movie, the very first one to be heard in it actually. But... Asia saw it as a song to show that there was an endless amount of possibilities of what could happen in the future. She started singing it to herself as a way of keeping herself happy, to keep her from being sad. Soon enough, I started to sing it myself... well, more to make her happy than myself. And, it quickly became the song we sang every day to remind ourselves that even though we've hit rock bottom, it's not the end... as the song says: there's more to see, that can ever be seen. More to do than can ever be done.
Koneko nodded, now intrigued in the story. Until she was caught off guard by (Y/N).
(Y/N): Your turn.
Koneko: W-wha!? No! I wasn't...
(Y/N): Koneko... I bothered myself to tell you my troubles even though I usually hate talking with devils like you. You caught me at a time where my emotions are quite wild right now so I'm not thinking straight, if you don't consult to me now... you'll never be able to consult with anyone ever again.
Koneko: But... I... You...
She suddenly caught (Y/N) off guard as she let out a frustrated groan, clutching her head and shaking it furiously... which brought some side-effects that she forgot about.
(Y/N): I knew it.
Koneko went wide-eyed, feeling her hair as she felt anger at herself from her ears and tail being revealed. Her ears drooped and her tail curled itself as she looked away ashamed.
Koneko: I'm a monster... I'm the little sister of a monster, a murderer. I don't...
(Y/N): Don't even start.
Koneko: What?!
(Y/N): You think because you're a famous murdering devil's sister that you should be ashamed? Are you seriously going to let that tie you down? I thought you were a better person than that.
To Koneko's surprise, (Y/N) suddenly summoned his sacred relic: the relic of corruption which appeared as his katana. He quickly unsheathed it and slowly walked up to Koneko.
(Y/N): If you're really that easy to doubt yourself, you won't survive in this world. I don't care if you have the strength of a rook piece, if you instantly assume an identity that was created, you'll simply become the lowest of the low. I might as well put you out of your misery here and now, to lighten the burden you'd give everyone and to stop your whining.
Koneko tenses, her fist ready to hit (Y/N) if he attempted to attack. (Y/N) meanwhile kept walking closer, raising his katana and about to behead her.
(Y/N): Now... who the hell are you?
Koneko: I'm a Nekomata.
She quickly jumped back from the swing.
(Y/N): Who are you?
Koneko: The little sister of a criminal!
Another swing, this time however, (Y/N) quickly grabbed her shirt, slamming her into the cloud and pointing his sword at her neck.
(Y/N): Who are you?
Koneko: Rias Gremory's rook!
Koneko kicked (Y/N) in the chest, sending him flying but she huffed when she witnessed (Y/N) quickly returning using his Evil Energy wings.
(Y/N): Who are you?
Koneko went to answer, only to gasp as she felt the knee of (Y/N) enter her stomach, followed up by him grabbing her collar and once again slamming Koneko into the cloud. Only this time he stepped on her right arm and legs while pointing the sword at her throat.
(Y/N): Who... are... you?
Koneko was again ready to answer, until she saw (Y/N)'s glare, the tip of the sword inching closer, even causing a little cut and making her bleed slightly.
Koneko: I am...
(Y/N): You're Koneko Toujou, a half Nekomata half devil, the rook piece of Rias Gremory and the sister of Kuroka, the famous criminal of the underworld. However, all that doesn't mean anything, what matters is who you think you are, not who you believe yourself to be because others say so. Take me for example: people see me as an asshole, a murderer, someone evil as I plan to eliminate all the devils. But to me, I'm nothing more than a teenager with insecurities who is just trying to make his shitty life ok by getting my revenge and making sure that no one else ever has to experience that!
Koneko remained silent, choosing instead to stare wide-eyed up at (Y/N) who withdrew the blade and sent the relic of corruption back to wherever he kept it.
(Y/N): I want to kill all devils, that goal has never changed ever since I was exposed to the Supernatural world. But... if possible, I could keep just a few alive because I actually respect them. Right now you're not doing a good job, so, if you want to survive, if you want to live. Forget what everyone else says, decide your own identity on your own!
With that, (Y/N) scoffed, walking off as Koneko sat up, blankly looking down at her clenched fists... both of them unaware of a smirking fallen angel staring at them both from the darkness.
Azazel: Kid's gotten much better with his attitude, only a matter of time before it helps him in the long run...
(Meanwhile in an unknown location)
Adam sat in a study, sighing as he placed a newspaper on his desk. He then heard a knock at the door.
Adam: Enter...
A woman with long purple hair entered, bowing slightly to reveal her fallen angel wings.
???: Lord Adam... I apologise for disturbing your resting time, however... the prisoner won't shut up.
Adam: Oh? You couldn't silence a young child?
???: Normal torture didn't work, neither did psychological torture. She's just... singing.
Adam: Singing... you say?
In a cell deep underground, it showed Asia, her clothes torn to bits while bruises were visible on her body, hugging her knees to her chest with tears in her eyes. However, she kept a smile while indeed true to the woman's words, she was singing.
Asia: Through despair and hope. Through faith and love. Till we find our place. On the path unwinding. In the circle... the circle of life... please... defeat this evil... (Y/N), the Human King.
To be continued...
(A/N): Omg!!! I'm so close to finishing my first year of Uni! I only have two lectures left and then I need to wait until Saturday since my family is very and I mean very insistent on not coming until the weekend (Most likely because it's easiest since they don't need to head to their jobs early in the morning and then come home tired). Anyways, thank you guys and gals so much for the continued support and as always: eat one or more brownies every day!!!!
