Chapter 9
Catra snuck out of the house once again and was sitting down on Adora's couch. The other girls came over again but she didn't have the energy to really do much. The last few nights she had stayed up so late for them that she barely got any rest. Her parents never cared so they didn't notice.
"Hey hotshot, I need some money," Mermista asked as Catra looked up tiredly.
"I didn't bring it, sorry." She muttered with a sigh. Mermista frowned before noticing her wallet in her back pocket. She was furious.
"Come with me," Mermista said grabbing Catra's hand and dragging her upstairs. She motioned towards the bathroom and Catra went inside. Mermista entered before closing the door.
"Why are you lying?" Mermista asked aggressively crossing her arms.
"Huh, what do you mean?" Catra asked rubbing her eyes. Mermista huffed and pushed herself off the wall.
"You said you didn't have anything but you do," Mermista said coming over to her. Catra stepped back and stared at her feet nervously.
"I thought you were Perfuma asking for more flowers, my apologies." She said as Mermista grabbed her shirt and forced her to look up.
"So where is the money?"
"But don't you have enough? I already gave you a lot!" Catra said as Mermista moved her hands. She turned around and grinned.
"Fine, guess we aren't friends anymore."
"W-Wait no I-I didn't mean to, to do that can we still be friends?" Catra asked stepping forward. When Mermista didn't answer Catra stepped back nervously and bit her bottom lip. I really messed this up. She thought taking her wallet out.
"Here," She muttered holding her hand out. Mermista turned around and took the cash from her.
"Finally,"
"Can we still be friends?" Catra asked quietly. Mermista smiled and placed her hand on Catra's shoulder.
"Definitely, I'll see you tomorrow." She said opening the door. But before she left she turned her head.
"Friend," Then she left. Catra sighed and sat down on the floor. She brought her knees to her chest and buried her head in her knees.
"I almost messed everything up. I'm so stupid," She said shaking her head. She stretched her legs out and leaned against the tub. She ended up falling asleep in the bathroom and nobody noticed. They had completely forgotten about her, except for Adora. She made sure to wake her up at five so she can leave. The next few days had felt just like the first.
Whenever Catra said no Mermista or Frosta would threaten their relationship with each other which scared Catra a lot. Adora slowly started noticing how the two would randomly go upstairs and only Mermista or Frosta would come back down. She was worried about what was going on up there but couldn't ask them since she puts her trust in Catra. If she needs anything she can come to me.
This time when Catra came over she had forgotten to bring money for them. She noticed that when she reached the doorsteps to Adora's house. She was terrified. She thought about going home but dumped the idea. If they're friends they understand right? She knocked on the door and it immediately opened up.
"Hey Catra, are you ok?" Adora asked as the girls turned their heads. Mermista had started getting impatient waiting for her to come and it was clearly showing. She was tapping her foot against the ground and constantly glance at her watch.
"I'm fine, just tired," Catra said as Adora frowned.
"Well if you're tired you don't have to keep sneaking out, you can stay home and rest." Adora offered causing Mermista's brows to furrow. Oh hell no. She thought leaning off the wall but Frosta was quicker.
"Really? Uh, thanks-" Catra started until Frosta cut her off.
"Hey Catra, good to see you!" Frosta said dragging her inside. Adora's brows furrowed but she didn't say anything as the door closed. While Frosta led Catra upstairs Mermista split her earnings like promised. Adora watched confusingly before hearing a loud thunk coming from upstairs.
"Frosta I'm so sorry it was an accident!" Catra apologized as Frosta rubbed her head. It was not an accident. She was absolutely terrified of the young girl and pushed her away. Sadly Frosta hit her head against the wall, harshly.
"Friends don't hit each other Catra," Frosta snapped glaring into her eyes.
"I know I know, I'm sorry," Catra said lowering her head. Frosta shook her head before holding her hand out.
"Just hand it over, it's not that hard."
"About that, I uh didn't bring anything," Catra said playing with her shirt nervously. Frosta's eyes widened before her brows furrowed.
"You what..."
"I forgot-"
"You forgot?! Wow, what a great friend you are." Frosta said sarcastically rolling her eyes and crossing her arms.
"I know I know I'm sorry."
"You keep saying that but you don't mean it do you?" Frosta snapped.
"I do I swear!" Catra said and Frosta scoffed.
"Doesn't seem like it," She said before seeing a card sticking out from Catra's pocket. She squinted and noticed it was her credit card.
"Cash isn't a problem, I'll just take your credit card," Frosta said turning her head and holding her hand out. Catra glanced down at her pocket before back at Frosta.
"No." She said. She was pretty much done at this point. Frosta's eyes widened as she turned around and moved closer.
"What?"
"I can't give you my card! I need that!" Catra said stepping back. Frosta reached to grab it but Catra turned around and ran. She ran downstairs and quickly hid behind Adora, scared out of her mind.
"Catra what happened up there?" Adora asked turning around to face the brunette. Once Frosta came into view Catra threw her card at her.
"Take it! Just please don't hit me!" Catra said cowering behind Adora.
"What? No!" Adora grabbed the card before Frosta could and glared at everyone.
"Shit,"
"What is going on?" She demanded crossing her arms. Frosta immediately pushed Mermista in front and hid behind Scorpia. Mermista glared at Frosta before she sighed.
"Catra has been giving us money," Mermista confessed but Adora wasn't taking that for an answer.
"Why?" Adora asked handing Catra her card back.
"Because we need it, duh." She said rolling her eyes. Adora glanced behind her before back at her friends.
"How much have you been asking for?"
"Not a lot," Frosta lied shrugging her shoulders. But Adora wasn't that stupid, she knew Frosta was lying so she turned around.
"Ok. Catra how much have they been asking you for?" Catra looked over at the girls who were shaking their heads. She locked eyes with Adora before looking down.
"It doesn't matter," Catra muttered shuffling her feet nervously.
"Wha- yes it does!" Adora argued before rubbing her forehead. She wanted to know what her friends had been doing behind her back. She thought Catra might help but apparently, she was wrong.
"That's not what friendship is though," Catra replied causing Adora to raise an eyebrow.
"Huh?"
"Uh oh," Mermista mumbled looking down. Adora noticed her reaction and became even more upset.
"Elaborate," Adora said glaring at the girls. Catra nodded and sighed.
"Friendship is about giving to help other people, that's what they told me," Catra said pointing at the girls more specifically, Frosta and Mermista. The most guilty of them.
"But that's not what it is! What is wrong with you guys!?" Adora shouted storming over to them. They started arguing with each other and Catra listened in.
"It's not a big deal!" Mermista said waving her hand.
"Yes, it is! You tricked her and lied to her only to use her for your own benefits!" Adora snapped as Catra's eyes widened. Catra walked over and tapped Adora's shoulder causing the blonde to turn around.
"They were using me?"
"Yes,"
"No,"
"Shut up!" Adora snapped. Catra moved her hand and stepped back.
"You told me they were good people. You promised me!" Catra snapped as Adora's eyes widened. She forgot about the promise she made about two weeks ago.
"Wait no Catra I didn't mean to lie!" Adora said moving towards her. However, Catra stepped back and glared at her.
"Leave me alone. You're a lier Adora, you're not my friend and neither are they!"
