Chapter 8
Catra was especially excited for tonight. She was finally going to meet Adora's friend group. However, she couldn't hide her excitement very well. Her parents were suspicious of her since she was never like this. Especially since they had just added a new class for her, gardening. And she hated it.
"Catra get over here!" Beatrix yelled from downstairs. Catra looked up from her study room and placed her glasses on the table.
"Coming mother!" She stood up, pushed the chair in, and left the room. She scurried downstairs and stopped in front of Beatrix. The woman looked down at her and glared.
"You seem extra happy today. What's going on?" She asked crossing her arms. Catra's smile fell as her face was replaced with confusion.
"Extra happy?" She asked rubbing her hands against her pants. Bea rolled her eyes and scoffed.
"Look at yourself, you're acting differently than usual. What's the deal?" Beatrix asked motioning to Catra up and down.
"I just have a newfound motivation to finish my school work so I can get better grades and achieve your goals for me," Catra said with a smile on her face. Bea was taken back for a moment before she rubbed her neck.
"That's new, well I'm glad you've come to your senses. Now I shouldn't disrupt you anymore," Bea said moving her hand in a shoo motion. Catra nodded and rushed back up the stairs. She entered her study room, closed the door, and sat back down. She felt her stomach twist into knots.
She rarely lies to her parents but when she does she gets caught but this was the first time she hasn't. She glanced down at the sheet work but couldn't focus. I've never been this good of lying before, what's going on? Was it- no, I can't be her. She's too nice for that... unless she has been lying to me.
"I can ask her tonight," She whispered rubbing her eyes and focusing on the homework.
Soon nighttime arrived. Catra did her usual sneak out and arrived outside Adora's house. She peeked through the window and felt her heart beating louder and faster. There were so many people she didn't recognize and she started getting anxious.
Catra moved away and sat down. I can't do this. T-There's too many unfamiliar faces it's overwhelming. She stood up and started to walk away. Unfortunately, Adora saw her from the window and smiled. She ran to the door and swung it open.
"Hey! Where are you going?" She asked as Catra turned around. She went to answer but she noticed Adora's cheerful mood. She couldn't say no to this.
"I was taking a breather. There are too many people in there I couldn't handle it." Catra said hanging her head low and playing with her fingers. Adora's brows relaxed as she went over and hugged her friend.
"Don't worry, they aren't bad people I promise," Adora said pulling away while still holding Catra's hands. Catra looked up and the two locked eyes.
"Ok, I trust you." She muttered before Adora led her back to the door. Catra paused for a moment suddenly remembering her status. Please don't be simps please don't be simps please don't be simps. She stepped inside and everyone turned their heads to her.
"WHERE DID YOU FIND HER!??!" Bow screeched as Adora chuckled.
"Calm down I'll tell you later. Ok Catra, that's Mermista, Perfuma, Netossa, Spinnerella, Scorpia, Frosta, Bow and-"
"Me bitch." Glimmer said doing the peace sign with her fingers. Catra smiled and immediately sat down next to Glimmer.
"Are these your friends too?"
"Yeah,"
"You guys are terrifying," Catra muttered before seeing a hand in front of her. She looked up and saw it was Bow.
"I'm Bow! Nice to meet you!"
"Catra," She said shaking his hand. He squealed and ran around the house as everyone else approached her. She shrunk back into the couch and Adora had noticed. Right, anxiety. She remembered while going over to them.
"Guys give her some space, you're giving her anxiety." She said and the group split it in half. That made Catra feel a little bit better for the meet and greet. Soon she was able to introduce herself to everyone and things were going well.
"Catra?" Perfuma asked sitting next to her. Catra turned around and nodded.
"Yeah?"
"Do you take an interest in gardening?"
"Well, not exactly but it is one of the classes I'm taking. Why? Would you like some flowers?" Catra offered as Perfuma smiled.
"Really! That'd be great thank you!" She said cheerfully. Catra nodded and went back to talking with Adora. However, Mermista overheard their conversation and got an idea.
"Hey, Catra! Come here!" Mermista said making Catra lookup. She apologized to Adora before standing up and following Mermista upstairs.
"Is there a chance I can borrow some money?" She asked rubbing her hands together.
"Uh yeah sure, how much," Catra asked taking her wallet out. Mermista was shocked but she still answered.
"One hundred,"
"Here," Catra said hanging her the amount Mermista requested. Mermista counted and smiled before patting her shoulder.
"Thanks, you're a good friend," Mermista said moving her hand and going back downstairs. Catra turned around and rubbed her shoulder, the same one Mermista had just touched.
"Friend? We're friends?" Catra muttered moving her hand and putting her wallet back in her pocket. We're friends. So friends give, noted. Catra smiled before going downstairs.
"Look at this money," Mermista bragged shoving it in Frosta's face. Frosta groaned and moved the money away but that didn't stop Mermista. She did that to pretty much everyone in the room before Catra came back.
"Where'd did you even get that from, last time I checked you're broke," Frosta asked and Mermista gasped.
"I was not broke icey pants. And I got it from Catra." She said pointing at the brunette. Catra looked up and waved towards Mermista who waved in return.
"Oh, I see what you're doing. Two can play that game," Frosta snarled going over to Catra. Mermista titled her head before realizing what Frosta was trying. It's not going to work. She thought shaking her head.
"Hey there, can I have some money? Maybe two hundred." Frosta said glaring at Mermista. Catra nodded and took her wallet out before hanging Frosta money. Mermista's jaw dropped as Frosta grinned.
"Thanks, friend," Frosta said skipping back to Mermista.
"Yeah, no problem." She said rubbing her neck.
That became a habit. Every night Mermista and Frosta would start asking Catra for money and she would give it to them. Adora didn't notice but Glimmer did and she was not happy with the two.
However, when she confronted them with the rest of the group, minus Adora, they offered to share their earnings which everyone agreed to. That's when the numbers slowly started to go up.
And Catra didn't know any better.
