Chapter 7

Mara glanced between the two in confusion Adora immediately stood up and went over to the brunette.

"What are you doing here?" Adora asked in a hushed tone.

"I snuck out, I just wanted to spend time with you and Glimmer," Catra said looking around the house.

"Is she here?" She asked but Adora shook her. Catra frowned before looking up and locking eyes with Mara. Don't mess with her, you might die. Catra thought waving nervously. Mara glared at Adora skeptically before turning around and going upstairs.

"So when is Glimmer coming?" Catra asked as Adora moved out of the way. Catra walked inside and kicked off her shoes before placing them on the shoe rack.

"I should've taken your text seriously, I didn't think you'd actually come over," Adora confessed rubbing her neck nervously. Catra titled her head.

"You don't text truthfully?"

"I-I do! Don't worry I would never lie to you!" Adora panicked placing her hands on Catra's shoulder. She flinched making Adora move her hands.

"What's wrong? I'm sorry!" Adora asked stepping back. Catra's shoulders relaxed as she rubbed her neck.

"It's ok, I wanted to ask... c-can this..." She motioned between her and the blonde.

"Happen frequently?" She finished quietly. Adora's eyes widened at the suggestion before nodding repeatedly.

"Yes of course! I would love to spend time with you!" Adora said pulling Catra into a tight hug. Catra flinched at first but soon relaxed into her touch. She hugged back and rested her head on Adora's shoulder. Adora felt her face blow up in red but she didn't say anything.

"So when can Glimmer come over? Also, may I see what a yearbook is." Catra said moving her head and looking into Adora's eyes.

"I can ask her to come over tomorrow. Do you think you'll get caught?"

"I dunno, this was my first time sneaking out. I'll have to be back before five am though."

"Wait but you'll be losing sleep!?" Adora yelled shaking Catra's shoulders.

"Stop yelling!" Someone said from the stairs. The two looked up and Adora rolled her eyes.

"Shut up Swifty,"

"You shut up!"

"No, you!"

"Uno reverse!"

"You guys are petty," Catra snickered. Swifty's eyes widened at Catra before shaking his head.

"Stop kidnapping girls!" Swifty shouted.

"I did not kidnap her!" Adora argued not noticing Catra had slipped away a moment ago. The two argued while Catra looked around the house. She glanced over at picture frames and family photos in awe. Why can't my family be like that? A happy family, it's not like they even love me.

"Stop it," She mumbled until something caught her eyes. It was another photo but with a group of people. She recognized Glimmer and Adora but not everyone else. Are these her acquaintances? They look so... happy. Why can't I have that? They seem nice and kind and... caring. Like a family, a real family. Something I'll never have. Catra picked up the photo and stared at it.

"Adora?" Catra asked.

"Adora's not here right now." Catra jumped and turned around to face Mara. She locked eyes with the older girl and forced a smile while on the inside she was terrified.

Mara was swole, no doubt. Catra was scared of her because of the size difference. However, Mara didn't give off those vibes which made Catra feel slightly better.

"She's arguing with Swifty, what do you need?"

"I just wanted to know who these people are," Catra said holding up the picture.

"Those are Adora's friends, though she's really close to Glimmer and Bow," Mara said pointing to the guy in the photo. Catra turned her head and noticed he had his arm around Adora's neck while Glimmer did the same. They must've been close enough to be comfortable with touching each other like that.

"Bow?" Catra asked for confirmation. Mara nodded. Catra placed the picture back down before walking over towards Adora. She was sitting on the couch, pouting with her arms crossed. To Catra, it looked like Swifty won the argument.

"Hey, Adora?" The blonde looked up and her frown immediately morphed into a smile. She jumped up to her feet excitedly.

"Yes, Catra? What's up?" Adora asked as Catra glanced back at the photo. Adora followed her gaze before the two locked eyes.

"My apologies, I was intrigued by the family photo you had up over there," Catra said rubbing her neck shyly. Adora mouthed snapped into an 'o' as she went over to the line of framed photos. She grabbed the one Catra was talking about and walked back over to her.

"This one?" Adora asked handing it back to Catra. The brunette took one glance at it before she nodded, lifting her head back up.

"Well, they aren't my family. They're part of our friend group but... well we treat each other like one big family." Adora confessed rubbing the frame as memories came rushing back to her.

"What made them a second family to you?" Catra asked after watching Adora's reaction. She wanted to know what made them so special to the blonde, mostly to compare them to her family.

"Well, we always hung out a lot, helped each other, teased each other, and just overall care for each other," Adora said smiling comfortably. Catra nodded and turned her head back to Mara. Then why wasn't she in the photo? Are they... friends? I think that's the right word.

Catra looked over at Adora who was now sitting on the couch on her phone. Wouldn't that be rude? To invade her privacy?? Well, she seemed ok with talking about them.

"Adora, can I uh can I learn more about your second family. What makes them different from your first family?" Catra asked a bunch of questions on her mind. Everything she learned was brand new to her. It was like trying to teach a baby how to walk. Adora chuckled before scooching over and patting the seat next to her.

"Ok, sit down and let me explain," Adora said kindly. Catra smiled partially before walking over and sitting next to her.

Adora explained everything to Catra before the two fell asleep next to each other. When the morning came Catra's alarm went off causing her to wake up. She rubbed her eyes and went to move only to find Adora's arms wrapped around her waist.

Catra felt more, secure and safe around her so she didn't move her arms. That was until she remembered that she snuck out and could get in trouble if she got caught. Reluctantly, Catra nudged Adora's shoulder but the blonde didn't wake up.

"Wonderful, she's a heavy sleeper," Catra muttered sarcastically. She started shaking Adora but she still didn't wake up. Eventually, she found a way to leave and just snuck underneath her arms. Right after she moved Adora woke up. Are you serious? Catra thought facepalming.

"Where are you going?" Adora asked rubbing her head tiredly. She yawned as Catra pointed to the door.

"Oh right, silly me. I'll see you tonight?" Adora asked finger gunning. Catra chuckled and nodded before pushing the door open and leaving. Luckily she was able to get back inside before anybody woke up. She quickly hid the rope under her bed and slipped in her bed.

And this became a habit. She'll leave after everyone had gone to bed and come back so early in the morning that they didn't even notice a thing. Each night she would learn more and more about the life of a normal person outside of her mansion.

Everything was perfect. Or was it?

HAPPY SHE-RA DAY!! My gift for you guys is a free chapter.
