Chapter 4
Catra calmed down and stared back at her shoes. Who is this girl, why did she take me in? Catra glimpsed up at her and tried to see if she could recognize the girl. She couldn't, this was a stranger.
Adora put her hands down and took a moment to look over them. They had a pixie cut with some hair hanging in front of their multicolored eyes due to the rain. They had on a magenta suit and black shoes. Where did they come from? Adora wondered before locking eyes with them.
"What?" Catra asked moving away from Adora.
"I'm Adora," Adora finally said, hoping to get something similar to ice breakers. Catra went to answer but stopped herself. This is a stranger, does she not recognize me? She swallowed nervously before sighing.
"I'm Catra," She said quietly, almost ashamed of her name. Adora smiled but it soon faded. What was she doing in the woods? Adora thought walking over to the couch and sitting down next to her. Catra moved away and shivered. Adora noticed so she stood up causing Catra to look over.
"I can get you a hot towel! I'll be back!" Adora said racing up the stairs. Catra rubbed her nose before reaching into her pocket. Damn, forgot my phone. Idiot, you can't go home now. She leaned against the couch and got a look at the house.
The house was way smaller than hers, granted she lived in a four-floored mansion, made exclusively for Anderson and his family. My family. Do they even care? I doubt it since they pushed me around my whole life.
"I'm back!" Adora said causing Catra to jump off the couch and into a pouncing position. Adora bit her bottom lip to stop herself from laughing.
"What?" Catra snapped as Adora smiled.
"That was so cat-like," Adora snickered causing Catra to blush from embarrassment. She mumbled something under her breath while crossing her arms. Adora moved closer and handed her a towel.
"Here, let me make you something to eat," Adora said about to go into the kitchen
"Uh well, I should get going. I don't even know you." Catra said wrapping the warm towel around her. This feels nice, she's good for a stranger. Adora stopped and turned around but still smiled.
"Sorry sorry, the doors over there." She said pointing to her left. Catra nodded but when she looked outside it was still raining. She growled before turning her head back to Adora.
"I'll stay until the rain stops, don't expect to get anything out of me though," Catra said crossing her arms and leaning against the couch, trying to absorb all of the warmth of the towel.
"Don't worry I wasn't planning on it," Adora said opening the fridge and taking out ingredients for a sandwich. Catra watched tiredly as Adora made them both food. What's with her hair? Why is it so short? Catra wondered but she was too scared to ask. She didn't want to risk being kicked out for such a rude question.
"Toasted bread?" Adora randomly asked. Catra perked her head up and shrugged.
"I'm not the chef here," She said causing Adora to laugh. Catra's eyes widened and slowly she started to smile. When Adora calmed down she just gave Catra a thumbs up and went back to fixing the food. Catra gazed down at the floor and blushed again.
"She's so nice," She mumbled resting her head on her knees. But why? She's a stranger and she just met me- is it because of my status? No, she didn't have that oh-my-gosh look when I introduced myself.
"Here," Catra lifted her head and saw Adora standing in front of her with a plate filled with a sandwich and chips.
"Uh thanks," Catra mumbled taking the plate from the blonde. Adora smiled and sat down next to her before turning on the TV and watching whatever was on. Catra glanced down at the sandwich before picking it up.
She closed her eyes and took a bite. Her eyes lit up. Believe it or not, this was her first time eating a sandwich. Her family had the cooks make the same fine cuisine every day and she was sick of it.
"It's good," Catra mumbled causing Adora's eyes to light up. This was Adora's first time making food for someone outside her family. It made her feel great.
"You talk like you've never had one before!" Adora chuckled before noticing the change in Catra's eyes. They seemed to have gotten duller and sadder.
"Catra?" She asked tilting her head. Catra leaned against the couch and tried her best to shrink back, or hide.
"I haven't had one of these before," Catra confessed rubbing the plate. Adora immediately winced from the joke she had previously made, now knowing what she had said was true.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't know!" Adora panicked placing her plate on the coffee table and turning around to face Catra.
"I accept your apology," She said, her voice turning cold. Adora's brows relaxed as she looked down. She didn't understand the sudden change of tone, it was a simple mistake. What did she do wrong?
"Catra... you ok?" Adora asked quietly. Catra glanced over at Adora and tried to glare but couldn't. Adora looked so hurt it felt like a gunshot to her heart. Not being able to continue looking into her eyes, she turned around and went back to gazing at her food.
"My apologies for my sudden change of mood. I've never had food like this before since my personal cooks always made me the same meals each week. My father calls food as this poor people treats, and... well... it doesn't taste as bad as he had interpreted this. I got upset knowing I can never have food like this again." Catra said locking eyes with Adora. Adora nodded.
"I um wow I wasn't expecting that," Adora said rubbing her neck. Catra tilted her head waiting for Adora to accept her apology. However, Adora didn't say anything.
"You don't accept my apology?" Catra asked and it finally clicked for Adora.
"I accept your apology! I'm sorry, I'm just not used to your customs and stuff. Especially since, well, money difference and all." Adora said feeling her cheeks flush as she spoke. Catra nodded before it went silent. The only sound in the house is the TV. But before any of the girls could speak up the front door nob turned.
"Adora! Open up! It's your bitch!" Someone called out from outside. Catra jumped at how loud the girl was from outside and turned her head to Adora.
"Hey um can you go upstairs? It's nothing personal! I just-"
"I understand," Catra responded blankly. She stood up and walked up the stairs as the knocking became louder.
"I'm coming!" Adora yelled running towards the door and fishing the keys from her pocket. She unlocked the door and almost immediately it swung open. The sudden motion caused Adora to jump back and grip onto the kitchen counter ledge for support.
"What took you so long?" They asked crossing their arms sassily. Adora moved her hand and chuckled as she stood up.
"Sorry Glimmer,"
