Chapter 12

Catra picked up what looked like a rainbow flag and stared at it.

"What is this?" Catra asked digging through the box and taking even more flags. Adora smiled and sat down next to her.

"What are these? I've never seen these flags before," Catra said as Adora took one out and handed it to her.

"What's this one?" Catra asked analyzing the colors. The colors were different shades of pink, orange, white, and red.

"A lesbian flag," Adora responded confidently. Catra glanced over her at her before back at the flag.

"What does that mean?" Catra asked causing Adora to smile more. She started explaining all the different flags to Catra and made sure she got all of them. Catra mostly nodded when Adora got finished explaining each flag. Catra learned almost everything about LGBTQ+ in one night, mostly from Adora's enthusiasm.

When Catra got back in the morning all she could think about it the flags and their meanings. What flag would I be? Some of them have pretty colors but it's based on your sexuality. This is weird and hard to remember. I like the pink one, I think that's Adora's flag though. What was it called, lezbeen? I need to pick a different one then. I'll just ask when I come over tonight.

This was the most interesting topic she's ever learned and she wanted to know more. Catra looked up from her bed and noticed Aubrey was cleaning again. Does she know what a sexuality is? I can't ask, she might get suspicious. Wait, I can just look it up! Duh.

Catra took out her phone but then stopped. It's more fun when Adora teaches me though. I can wait a few more hours. She decided on that and put her phone away. Another thing she was curious about is the jumpy feeling she sometimes gets in her stomach. She thinks it's a disease but it only happens when Aubrey is around. Maybe I can ask Adora. No, one thing at a time. I don't want to sound impatient or nosey.

When Catra snuck out again that night that was all she had in mind. That weird jumpy feeling in her stomach.

"Hey, Adora?" Catra asked playing with her shirt nervously.

"Yeah?" The blonde replied from the kitchen. She was making brownies before Catra came over so she was just finishing those up. Catra smelled them earlier and she wanted to try them but Adora said they weren't done yet. She said that Catra can have one when they were done which Catra happily agreed to.

"Can I learn a little more about the flags? I wanted to know which one I am but it's hard." Catra asked moving her hands and placing them on the couch. Adora turned around from the kitchen, and with a large smile she held up a thumbs up. Catra smiled.

She is extremely grateful for what Adora has been doing to her. However, she was a little scared that she didn't have that jumpy feeling around her. She thought it only happened around girls but she didn't feel it for her closest friend.

"So what's up?" Catra jumped slightly and turned her head. She didn't even notice she zoned out and now she was mildly embarrassed.

"My apologies, I wasn't paying attention," Catra said holding her hands up.

"It's ok, I forgive you," Adora replied as Catra lowered her hands and rested them on her thighs. She took a moment to look over all the flags before answering.

"Thanks, and for the flags how did you pick the one you wanted?" Catra asked causing Adora to tilt her head. Catra got confused. Did I say something wrong?

"Oh! Well, Catra you don't just pick a flag. It's based on your sexuality. Like for Lesbian that means you only like girls. And for Bisexual that means you only like girls and boys." Adora said holding up each flag as she spoke. Catra got a little confused for a second. She must've mixed up two of the flags.

"I thought that was the pan one," Catra asked picking up the Pansexual flag.

"Pansexual, and don't compare that to pans, it's tiring and annoying," Adora said rubbing her forehead. Catra went to apologize but Adora held her hand up, stopping her.

"It's ok, it's not your fault. Do you always apologize this much?" Adora asked placing her hand on her couch. Catra nodded as Adora went fishing in the box.

"I have to, my parents expect one from me whenever I mess up." She muttered causing Adora to lift her head. That sounds stupid, then again she comes from a wealthy, snobbish family. Snobbish sounds mean but she talks like they are. Adora thought handing some of the flags to Catra.

Luckily Adora was prepared for tonight. Normally whenever Adora told something to Catra the next day she would ask questions about it. So this time Adora made flashcards for Catra with the words and definitions so she didn't have to repeat everything.

Catra seemed to have figured it out because she was already reading multiple flashcards, looking back at the flags when she was finished. Her confusion started to diminish which was good. Adora sat back a little bit still holding the lesbian flag.

"Hey Adora," Catra asked leaning her body back against the couch. This was tiring and she needed a slight brain break but she didn't want to keep asking the same thing over and over again the next day.

"Yeah?"

"How did you figure out you were a... lesbian? Did I say that right?" Catra asked looking up from the flashcard. Adora nodded.

"Did you think there was another name for it?" Adora asked as Catra's eyes widened. She was not ready for that at all.

"What?" Adora asked nervously. She was worried by Catra's reaction. What other name could she have thought of?

"I thought it was lezbeen," Catra said squeezing her eyes shut as her cheeks turned red. Adora had nothing to say. Should I laugh or be offended? She looked up at Catra before moving closer. I should comfort her.

"Catra it's alright, it was a mistake and it was your first time learning it's not your fault," Adora said comfortly. Catra opened her eyes and nodded. That comment made her feel better about the situation.

"Ok... ok. I'm still sorry, though. Can we still be friends?" Catra asked glancing back at the flashcards to distract herself.

"Yes of course! That was random where did... oh..." Adora's mood turned sour at the slight mention of her friends. But then the sourness went away. She missed her friends even though they did bad stuff to Catra. Catra looked over at the lesbian flag before back at Adora.

"Can there be more lesbians or is it just you?" Catra asked snapping Adora out of her thoughts.

"There's more than one lesbian in the world Catra, it's not just me," Adora said holding back a chuckle.

"So if anyone only likes girls they qualify as a lesbian?" Catra asked and Adora nodded. Catra was going to ask another question but the door opened up. Both girls looked up and noticed someone in the door frame holding a box. Adora's eyes widened as she stood up.

"Flutterina?"
