I turned around to look at the enemy. It is the face of a person whom I know too well. Person? Actually, no, he isn't just a 'person'. He's one of our kind.
"Long time, no see, Toshi," I smiled sweetly, "or should I call you runaway experiment number 48?"
"Don't talk in such a condescending manner," he sneered with an equal tone, "patient number 67."
I doubled over, holding my stomach as I laughed. My bangs covered my eyes as I did. I haven't heard someone call me 'patient number 67' for years. It stung, but does that matter? It doesn't, because you cannot change the past.
"Ha, still a fool, mhm?" I straightened my back, "what's that gun for? Oh dear, did I lead Yami to her death? You must have gotten the wrong person then."
That was a critical hit. The moment I mentioned her name, I can see his eyes ignited with fury and his fingers tightened around the trigger.
"Oh, boo-hoo. Shoot me," I mocked as I raised my hands in surrender, "I dare you."
"Hitomi, stop that!" Ayato-kun yelled, widening his eyes, "that gun is not an ordinary one!"
The atmosphere intensified as I did not put down my hands, nor did Toshi put down his gun. I could feel Ayato-kun burning holes through my head for my reckless act, but that didn't stop me. He took a step forward to defend me, but that made Toshi even more prepared to shoot.
"Take one more step and I'll shoot." Toshi threatened Ayato-kun.
I heard Ayato-kun hissing under his breath as he stopped immediately. Toshi and I stared at each other with disdain. Soon enough, he lowered his gun.
"Good," I said, "I thought you left your brain at home."
"You're not funny." Toshi furrowed his brows.
"You have no sense of humor then." I retorted.
The fuel between us only increased.
"What brought you here, you fool?" I asked as a smirk played on my lips.
He sneered in disgust and only stepped forward. His dark bangs covering one eye as he glared at me through the other. He flashed his white teeth and the next thing that spilled from his lips came as a harsh whisper, almost threatening.
"I suggest you step down your position as the Mad Hatter." He lifted his chin slightly.
"And why should I?" I raised a brow.
He narrowed his eyes darkly, and he studied my expression meticulously, searching for any lies evident on my face. When he didn't find any, he took a step back and hushed in a deadly tone.
"Rumors say that Hironaka Yami is still alive."
