Chapter 4: an intruder and an imposter pt.2
Darkness surrounded me once again. My small arms instantly shot to my stomach and i hugged myself as the coldness hit me.
I tried walking for a while but the only thing I found was more darkness.
"Blu!" I yelled.
Nothing.
"Blu!"
Still nothing.
I sighed and began to blindly walk through the darkness. I couldn't help but think of what had happened in the village. The unsettling feeling of being home sick quickly hit me and I wrapped my arms around myself even tighter as if that would protect me.
Even though my home wasn't the happiest place ever since Julian died, I still missed it. And i would go back without a second thought. I would lay in my bed and tidy up Julian's every morning. I would clean the house and I would go feed the livestock that we made when I was younger. After the chores were down, I would go to his grave and talk to him.
I loved to talk to him.
My heart twisted in my chest as I realized that I wouldn't be able to talk to him anymore, his grave at least. My only wish was that his grave stone was left unharmed by the fire. They might have burned down the house I had grown up in all my life, turning every remembrance of him to ashes, but I would not allow those bastards to touch his grave.
It was the only true thing I would have left of him other than my memories which were feeling as if they were fading with everyday that passed.
I thi-
"What do you have to say boy!"
My head snapped towards the direction, wincing as the booming voice rang in my ears.
It took me a moment to figure out what was happening. "Blu?" I quickly made my way towards them.
Once I reached the voices, I gasped at the sight.
Blu on his knees, nose busted and bloodied and his glossy eyes are staring right at a woman.
My eyes softened as I see the familiarity in the woman. She looks just like Blu. Her brown eyes are the same color as his except hers are much duller. She has bags under eyes yet she is still undeniably beautiful. I can see her raise her head in fake confidence and try to stop who I assume is her husband but he just gives her a death stare.
"Stay out of it woman!"
The woman's eyes widen and I see nothing but fear in her eyes; a sight I am use to seeing. "P-Please, please stop hurting our son! He's only tr-"
In a matter of seconds, the mans large hand connects to her face and I don't have to be able to see the action to know she is bleeding. I watch as her head snaps to the right and she falls on her side.
My eye twitches at the sight of a man hitting a woman and I feel my fists ball.
"Don't touch her!" Blu growls and charges at the man but his father is much bigger and much stronger. With ease, he puts his son in a choke hold.
My body seems paralyzed as I watch what is suppose to be a father choke his son. His eyes are large and wild-like as he drains the life out of Blu.
My eyes land on Blu and I visibly shake as I see Blu come to realization that he is going to die.
'I'll bring Blu back. I promise' the words ring in my head over and over again.
'I promise.'
"No." My eyes widened before I charge at him.
I can't let this happen. I promised. I promised her I would bring back her friend.
Right when I'm about to reach him, a wave of electricity shoots throughout my body and I let out an ear piercing scream as I'm thrown back into the air.
My body hits the ground and i let out a groan as pain radiates throughout my body. My wounded shoulder throbs and I can't help but let out a yelp at the pain.
My eyes widen and i start to panic and I realize that I can't move my body. I can feel the pain but I can't move. I try to call out for Blu and the others but no one comes.
All I can hear is ringing and fading grunts from what I assume is Blu's father as he beats him up.
My heart twists as I continue to be paralyzed and forced to hear Blu's mother's cries and pleads to stop and the sound of his father telling Blu horrible things.
I hate this feeling; the feeling of being useless.
Useless.
I couldn't help Julian. I couldn't help the villagers... and now i cant help Blu.
Useless. I'm so... useless.
"Get up."
My eyes open and the tears slowly stop at the sound of the voice. I don't recognize the voice yet I feel like I've heard it before.
Either way, the voice is loud and it sends chills to run down my spine. My eyebrows furrow as I realize that I am afraid.
Why am I afraid?
"Who's there?" I ask. My voice comes out as a whisper and i don't understand why I'm feeling this way.
"Get up."
I try to look around but I can barely move my head. Slowly the feeling in my legs and arms come back and once I gain my strength back I sit up.
"Who's there?" I ask but to my misfortune no one answers. I look around and sigh as I find nothing.
My eyes widen as I look at Blu. While I was thrown back and left unable to move, the older man whom I assume is his father had managed to pounce on him. Now he was just hitting him over and over again.
I try to stand up but I fall back down as the pain in my shoulder intensifies.
I try multiple of times to stand up it I just end up falling back down. The only thing i can do is crawl, so that is what i do.
I crawl until I'm inches away from the magical wall that separates us. It's barely visible but now that i know it's there it is obvious. Its like a light white color and almost looks like a foggy mirror.
"Please stop,"
I look at the direction of the voice and my eyes widen. Her small hands are wrapped around the metal so awkwardly anyone would know it was foreign to her but either way it would do damage. Her husband though, seemed to think otherwise.
"What are you gunna do with that, Mary?" He taunted, his eyes on her and his gun as he continued to choke Blu. "Put it down."
Mary stayed still.
"Put it down, Mary."
"No." She whispered. "No." She said a little more confident.
Her husband glared at her, his grip on Blu's neck harshening.
"I have been nothing but kind to you, James. We have been nothing but kind to you. We've dealt with your beatings and foul play for too long now and this draws the line." She took in a deep breath before giving him a glare of her own. "Let him go or I'll shoot you, James! I'll do it." She cried as her hands shook.
James smirked, unbothered by her remarks. "You wouldn't."
Her eyes grew hard as she glared at the man. "For my son, i would do anything."
And with that she pulled the trigger.
