Chapter 3: magical power

I woke up to a horrible rattling sound. I tried to open my eyes but I felt so weak. My back was on a hard and uncomfortable surface and every now and then my body would bounce up a little bit, letting me know that whatever I was on was moving.

"I think she's waking up." I hear a panicky voice whisper.

I quickly open my eyes and it takes everything in me to try and sit up. When I do, I notice that i am in what seems to be a carriage and there are about three other teenagers my age huddled together with blankets. There was another guy but he was alone, he was shivering and had many blankets over him.

"W-Who are you?" I asked, wincing as my throat burned. I backed away from them until my back was digging into the side of the carriage. My hands began to shake and my heart raced. Where was I?

"Hey, Hey," a boy said, putting his hands up. "It's okay. I promise we're just trying to help."

My eyebrows furrowed.

"We found you in the forest, lying on the ground." He explained.

I tried to remember what had happened but I couldn't. All I remembered was that creature that looked like a lion with wings. And the weird fact that he had called me master... my hands shaked even more as I remembered what the creature had done.

I remembered the men's screams and cries for help. How the creature tore them apart. Somehow I felt like it was my fault, like I made the creature do it. But that was impossible, it was crazy.... right?

I shook my head and pulled my legs up to my chest. "I didn't mean to." I whispered. "I promise I didn't mean to hurt them."

It was silent and I didn't even bother to look up. I pulled my knees up and laid my head down and let my hair fall over my legs as a shield.

"I promise I didn't mean for it to happen." I was sobbing now. I couldn't get their terrified faces and their screams for help as they were being torn apart out of my head and it was giving me a headache.

I felt a hand on my shoulder.

I quickly looked up and was met with a pair of blue eyes. He was so close to my face and I felt a slight blush run up to my cheeks.

Our proximity didn't bother him though. "What are you talking about?" He asked. His eyes were stern but soft at the same time.

I fumbled with my words and I didn't know how to tell him. I wasn't even sure if I had caused their deaths. It made sense, kind of but it didn't at the same so I wasn't completely sure.

"Easy, Vincent." A girl hissed. She had brown hair and her eyes were identical to his. They looked related. "Can't you see she's scared to death."

Vincent sighed as he scooted away from me. "I'm sorry." He said.

"You have to forgive my brother." The girl began as she scooted over to me. "He can be a bit.. him sometimes." She chuckled.

Without asking she threw her cover over me and I was glad for the warmth. I was so cold.

"Oh my god, you're freezing." She said almost as if she were reading my thoughts.

Her shoulder brushed mine and I instantly felt a burning sensation go throughout my arm. I could tell she felt it as well because she quickly scooted away, holding her arm as she winced.

"Wendy!" Her brother panicked. He crawled towards her and gasped when she raised up her sleeve.

My eyes widened as I saw the burn wound on her arm. It was big and it was exactly the part of her shoulder that had touched mine.

"Stay still." Her brother whispered as he put his hands together.

I was confused as to what was happening. But when a bright light submerged from his hands, my mouth fell open and all I could do was watch in shock.

After a couple of minutes, the light went out and when he pulled his hands away the burn wound was nowhere to be seen. There was only a small line that looked like it was a scar but nothing else.

"What..." i whispered in shock. "What did you just do?" I asked. I already knew what he did. He healed her but i couldn't register it in my mind.

"Its magic." He said. Then he turned back to me, his blue eyes cold. "How did you do that? Why did you do that?"

I shook my head. Had I given her that wound? How was that possible? "I-I didn't do that. I can't. I'm n-not, I don't have magic."

Vincent stared at me. "You have to have some kind of magic. Your touch burned her."

"She didn't mean to." The girl he had called Wendy defended me. "It was my fault, Vince. She didn't mean to."

Vincent looked at me for a few seconds before looking at his sister. "Are you okay?"

She nodded.

"You say you don't have magic but it's obvious that you do." Vincent said. He sounded irritated and i don't blame him.

"It's true." Another guy spoke. He had a cover wrapped around his whole body and a hood was covering his face so I couldn't see it. "You reek of magic power."

His words shocked me and all I could do was stare at him. Was he saying that he could smell magic? And that I had magic? "Y-you're crazy." I shook my head.

"You're obviously not normal." He said bluntly, looking me in my eyes.

"Blu!" Wendy yelled.

"What?" He snapped. "It's true, look at her. She has purple eyes, Wendy. What kind of human has purple eyes, huh?"

She stayed silent.

I couldn't help but glare at the hooded boy. I knew my eyes weren't normal, the kids of the village always reminded me about it i didn't need another stranger reminding me how weird and not normal I was.

My fists balled and I had the urge to punch his stupid face. I opened my mouth to say something but suddenly I got colder. I began to shiver and I noticed the others did too.

The hooded guy sighed and you could see his breath in the air.

"Dammit, Mikey." He whispered, turning to the guy who was by himself.

Vincent glared at Blu. "Leave him alone, Blu. He can't control it."

I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. I turned to the guy they were talking about and my face paled as I saw ice coming out of his mouth. He was asleep with his mouth opened and his breath was hitting the carriage, making that spot turn to ice.

"Wake up, Mikey." Blu said. He shook the boy and he quickly woke up.

"Huh?" He propped up. He looked around and noticed that everyone was cold. "Oh, I'm sorry you guys."

"It's okay, Mikey." Wendy smiled.

"This ice cube is going to freeze us to death before we even get there!" Blu said, shaking his head.

Before he could complain anymore, Vincent scooted over to Mikey and did the same thing he did with Wendy. Except, instead of healing Mikey he was trying to make him warm.

After a couple of minutes, he scooted back beside his sister and nodded when Mikey thanked him.

Mikey's pale skin that was once almost blue was normal now. His lips were still a little blue but he looked more alive now. He turned to me and smiled. "I'm sorry about that. The names Mikey."

I nodded, returning the smile. "I-It's okay." I was still a little shaken up. I turned to the others, my eyebrows furrowed. "So, you all have magical power?" I asked.

They all nodded.

"My name is Vincent. As you saw," Vincent started, motioning to his sister and then to Mikey. "I have the ability to heal any and everything. I can also make a pretty warm fire." He grinned.

Wendy rolled her eyes at him. "Im Wendy, this bozos older sister. I can see things. Like the past and the future."

I nodded. "That's cool."

She smiled. "Thanks." Then her smile faltered. "I'm sorry though."

I furrowed my eyebrows. What was she sorry about?

"Im sorry about your people." She said sadly.

My lips parted and then I understood what she had meant; the villagers.

"I can sometimes see people's past when I touch them and I can only draw the future." She explained further.

I thought back on her shoulder rubbing against mine. All it took was one touch?

"I'm sorry if I intruded. I didn't mean to."

"She's still learning how to control it." Vincent spoke up. "We all are."

I nodded and frowned as I thought about what had happened.

"It's not your fault you know." Wendy said as she tried to make me feel better.

I looked up and noticed that all four of the teenagers were looking at me. One had pity in her eyes, two had concerned looks on their faces and one just looked curious.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

"No." I said. I felt bad but I couldn't talk about something like that. Definitely not with a stranger.

"You can't just ask a stranger to pour their heart out to you, Wendy." Blu said matter of factly. "We're not all as gullible as you."

Wendy looked annoyed with him. "Shut up, flee bag." Then she turned back to me. "I'm sorry."

I didn't know if she was apologizing for what had happened or for being intrusive but either way I told her it was okay.

I turned to Blu, wondering what his magic power was. He seemed to notice this and for the first time he actually looked me in the eyes and took off his hood.

I stared at his puppy brown eyes and waited for him to answer. A large smirk found its way on his face and he opened his mouth to say something but stopped when a shot rang out.

We stopped moving and everyone fell silent.

"Come out, come out wherever you are." A woman sing songed.

Her voice sent chills down my spine and I turned to the magic users expectantly. Did they know who the voice belonged to?

Wendy frowned as she turned to her brother. He carried the same foul expression as her.

That's when I knew this woman wasn't a friend. She was an enemy. I was about to ask them who she was but in a flash, the carriage disappeared.
