Chapter 2: a cry for help pt.2

An angry six year old Catalina stalked towards the cottage, wincing with every step that she took. Once she made it to the front of the cottage, she caught sigh of her reflection in the window and frowned as she took her appearance in.

She looked horrible. Her bottom lip was busted and looked even more horrible now that the blood had dried on her way here. Her right eye was beginning to swell up and her back almost looked broke with the way she was standing. Her once calm and lively black curls were now in a mess.

She hated the kids of the village. All she had wanted to do was play the game they had invented. She had watched them for several weeks now and just today she grew the courage to go up to them and ask if she could play.

She knew what their reactions would be but something inside her hoped that today would be different. That they wouldn't hate her and they would her treat her like they treated each other. But to no surprise, she was wrong. After telling her no, they began to call her names.

Out of all of the horrible and taunting names they threw at her one of them stuck with her, making a weird feeling vibrate threw her body; Demon girl.

Her small fists had balled up and nothing but anger rolled off of her. Why were they so mean to her?

One of the kids had noticed her balled fists and she only assumed he felt challenged because he ran up to her and tackled her. One by one the kids began to surround her and they each took turns hitting and kicking her. It felt like hours had passed until they had finally stopped and ran away, leaving her small body beat up.

She didn't have the energy nor the strength to get up just yet. Instead she coiled up into a ball and cried.

Catalina glared at the door knob. She quickly jerked the door opened and threw her shoes off before running onto her bed. She pulled the covers over herself and tried to fake being asleep as she heard Julian's heavy footsteps.

"Is everything okay, Catalina?"

Catalina squeezed her eyes shut and tried to stifle her sob.

She felt a large hand on her shoulder and she was flipped around.

"My god." Julian gasped as he saw the six year olds face. "What happened?"

"Nothing."

"Catalina."

Catalina sighed. She could never hide anything from him. "The villagers."

Julian's old eyes widened with anger and shock.

Catalina shook her head. "The children." She corrected. "The children of the village."

The anger in his eyes didn't change. "I will go talk to their parents right now!"

Catalina jumped as he yelled. She had never seen him so angry. "Please don't."

Julian tilted his head. "And why not? Look what they did to you, Catalina? It's unacceptable!"

Lilly stood up. "Don't, Julian. It's-"

"Catalina, i can't just let this happen."

"I'll talk to them." She lied. "The-"

"Catalina," Julian said a little calmer. "There are some battles that you can fight on your own and then there are some that you just can't. It's okay to need help, it's okay to ask for help."
