Chapter 59 - Mute Child
Classic's POV
The wind blew and it snowed lightly outside. Fires were lite to keep everyone from getting cold. I wasn't the one in charge of looking after it but I just couldn't fall asleep. I stared at the cot in front of me. Fell had a small frown as he slept, showing that he was uncomfortable in this weather. I am more resistance to the bitter temperature.
Frisk held onto Fell's shirt with a tight grip. They've been following him around pretty much every minute of the day.
'Poor baby. Tortured just because they wanted to help.'
I wasn't able to fall back asleep before the morning sound sang through the sky. Everyone started waking up from their cold death-like slumber. Fell groaned a little as he opened his eyes. We locked sight and stared at each other. I smiled to him as I pushed myself off the bed.
Wrapping the uniform jacket around my shoulders, I got ready for the day ahead. Fell got dressed but noticed that the small child was shivering slightly. It seemed that their sweater wasn't doing a great job at keeping them warm. Once Fell thought of something, he kneeled down and dragged out a trunk from under his cot. The box held his clothing that he brought here.
After digging under the folded fabrics, he took out a black jacket with yellow fluff inside the hood.
Fell: Here kid, this should help regulate your body heat.
He said as he handed Frisk the fluffy coat. The child looked at the jacket hesitantly but then took it with a small smile.

We walked to the mess hall for breakfast. Frisk held our hands on the way there. They watched the cadets cautiously as they marched past. I guess they were worried that the trainees might do something to them.
Me: It's okay Frisk. They're not going to do anything to you.
The child shook their head while pointing at me and Fell.
Me: You think they're going to do something to us?
Frisk nodded.
Me: I can assure you, they are our allies.
They stared at me, almost saying that they still didn't trust the others. They were silent but actions always speak more than words.

We were eating when someone walked up to me. I looked at them with a confused look.
Cadet: Your turn to call your family members. This is your only chance.
I nodded and stood up. Frisk stayed with Fell.
I arrived at the phone. While dialing the number, the small feeling of dread grew inside of me. The voice I didn't want to hear sounded through the phone.
???: Hello?
Me: Hey, Papyrus.
Papy: Oh, hello brother.
The last we spoke, I was kinda in a disagreement with him. Seems he's forgiven me.
Papy: How are you this fine day?
Me: ... I'm fine. We found a child in the enemies territory. They were being tortured because of their actions.
Papy: That's unfortunate.

I hung up with a sigh. Walking back to the mess hall, I saw people eating and drinking happily. They were able to talk to their loved ones which raised their spirits. Fell and Frisk were sitting closer to the corner of the room.
A few minutes passed and Sci found us.
Sci: May the child come with me? I wish to check on them for any injuries.
Frisk grabbed my arm tightly.
Me: It's okay Frisk. He's going to help you.
They looked at me with a frown then left the building with Sci.

Fell and I sat under our tree. The child hasn't come back yet. The snow created a soft cushion for the ground. I rubbed my dog tag while I leaned against Fell's shoulder. He wrapped his arms around me, mostly to keep himself warm. I shifted myself to face him. My hand lifted to his cheek. Red blush began to cover his face. We leaned in and kissed each other. My body started to feel hotter. Something in my mind told me that kissing him just felt... right.
The kiss was getting pretty heated when someone cleared their throat. We broke off from each other and looked in the direction of the sound. It was Sci and Frisk. The young scientist was staring at us with a resting bitch face while Frisk was looking away. Sci was wearing his usual white scientific coat and Frisk was wearing Fell's jacket.
Sci: Um, well, Frisk has a problem with their vocal cords so they're mute for the rest of their life. I gave them a notebook for talking.
Frisk ran up to me and presented the notebook with a proud smile.
Me: That's amazing.
I elbowed Fell.
Me: We should probably go inside now so Frisk doesn't get too cold.
Fell: Okay.
(Time Skip)
We sat in front of the fire. Frisk was sitting in Fell's lap and sleeping peacefully.
Fell: This kid doesn't need to be out here. They deserve to be with a loving family, in a warm home, warm clothes and good food. Protected and cared for. They shouldn't be in a military camp like this.
Me: Yeah, I agree with you. Poor kid, they were hurt because of me. They wanted to help. It's all my fault.
Fell: It's not your fault, Classic. You were kidnapped by the enemy and tortured. It just shows that Frisk has a good heart, full of determination to help people like us.
I cuddled into him. Fell wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me closer to him. Frisk positioned themself towards me. They began to sprawl out on both of our laps. I started to softly pet their hair as they slept.
Sweet dreams Frisk
