Chapter 35 - Queen of My Sanctuary
Wait until it says '[intended time]' Understand? Cool
Error's POV
The warm sunlight forced me to wake up. I pulled the comforter over my head but once I'm awake, I can't fall asleep again. I sat up, still feeling a bit drowsy. I haven't been getting much sleep lately. Probably because of the fact I have my job and I'm out of my medication. I'll have to get some later. I put on a shirt and made an appointment for my medicine.
'Another day. Don't fuck it up.'
I walk into Ink's room to find him sleeping. His fluffy sheets were covering his entire body. Only the top of head was showing.
'Heh, cute.'
I lowered the sheets a little and kissed him. He returned the kiss even before he woke up. He looked up at me with a hazed look in his eyes. I lowered myself and cuddled him. We didn't bother greeting each other as the kiss pretty much did the work.
Me: Do you have any contracts?
He shook his head.
Me: At 12:00, meet me in the park. The same hidden place that we were at last time.
Ink: Okay. But right now, let's continue cuddling. It's cold outside, you're warm and you smell nice.
Me: Thank you?
He buried himself further into my chest. He seemed cold, even under the sheets.
Me: Ink, I have to go now. There's something very important that I have to do.
Ink: Fine.
He let go of me so I could stand up. I walked back to my bedroom and opened my closet. In the corner was a dusty bag. I pulled it out and set it on my bed. I unzipped it. Sitting inside was a old guitar.
Me: Hello old friend.
Just by looking at it, I could tell it needed to be tuned. I zipped the gig bag again and threw it onto my shoulder. I gathered some things before I teleported to the hidden place. Carefully setting the bag down, I began tuning the guitar.
[Intended time]
My fingers swiftly moved and played a small song. The guitar may have sang something beautiful but just touching the damn instrument gave me everything that wasn't.
~~~~Flashback~~~~
Error's POV (Age 8)
I felt momma lightly push me awake.
Mom: Get up sweety. We're going to go see Geno. Also, make sure you take your medicine.
She softly said and then left the room. I didn't bother changing. I put on my glasses and met momma outside. She was putting gifts into the trunk. Like always, dad wasn't here. Momma had trouble putting a big box in the car.
Me: Do you need help?
Mom: I got it sweety. Get in the car.
I waited for her. She sat in the driver seat and twirled the keys around her finger.
Mom: Now, let's go visit your brother.
(Time Skip)
I helped momma carry the gifts into Geno's room. My older brother was sitting on a hospital bed. An IV was attached his arm and he had a patch over his right eye. He has been incredibly ill and the doctors have been trying to fix it.
Mom: Happy Holidays sweetheart.
Geno: Hi mom. Happy Holidays.
After a few minutes of talking, momma had us open gifts. The last one belonged to me. Momma handed me the bigger box that she struggled with earlier.
Mom: Geno and I thought you'd like this.
I stared at them with confusion.
Geno: Well, what are you waiting for, an invitation?
I torn the wrapping to show the card wood surface of the box. I opened it and saw a bag. I unzipped it and within, there was a guitar. I picked it up. It was a bit big but for some reason, I loved the feeling of it's smooth surface. A smile grew on my face as I looked at both of them. I hugged momma tightly but hugged Geno gently as to not hurt him.
Me: Thank you. Thank you so much.
(Time Skip)
Error's POV (Age 16)
I sat on my bed, plucking the strings of my beloved instrument. I always played after dad abused me because I always found it as therapeutic.
Suddenly, dad bursted into the room.
Dad: I'm fucking tired of hearing that god awful hunk of wood. You don't have any concept of peace and quiet. Your whore of a mother never taught you shit.
He yanked my guitar out of my hands and smashed it into pieces. I could feel my soul break into bits and fall to the ground, just like my instrument. He slapped me and stormed out.
This was the first time in years that I cried. I went to Geno, who was doing his homework, when he noticed my tears.
Geno: What happened?
Me: Dad broke my guitar.
I didn't bother hiding the truth. It's nearly impossible to not hear yelling in this house.
Geno: Oh no. Tell you want, I'll buy you a new one. Actually no, I'll give you money and you pick out the guitar that you want.
He handed me money and I thanked him until he got annoyed.
(Time Skip)
I walked out with my brand new instrument. It wasn't anything special. Just a simple black acoustic guitar. I promised myself that I would never let anything happen to it.
Error's POV (Age 17)
I ran down the streets, away from the place I once called home. My rucksack was on my back and I carried my gig bag with my left arm. I didn't dare look back. I needed to escape this town.
I came across a park after I traveled a few kilometers. I wanted to find a secluded area. Somewhere I could calm myself and rethink my life. I happened to stumble upon an opening that was breathtaking. Even under the moonlight, I could see the mountains and a portion of the lake. I sat down, taking the tension off my feet. I pulled out my guitar and began to play. This spot is where I will come to when I need a sanctuary.
~~~~End of Flashback~~~~
And that is where I sit now, my sanctuary. But it is no longer mine as I'm sharing it with the love of my life, Ink.
I continued to play.
Ink: That's a beautiful song.
[Intended time to stop]
Me: How long have you been there?
Ink: Long enough to know you've mastered that thing.
I didn't realize what time it was until I looked at my phone. It was noon already. I stood up and pulled out a blanket and food from a hiding place. I set it up and motioned Ink to sit down.
Me: This would have been ready earlier but I guess I got caught up in playing.
Ink: It's okay. I actually love it. Can you... can you play that song again, please?
I blushed. I only remembered people wanting me to stop. Ink never ceases to make me love him.
Me: Y-yeah. Of course.
I let myself play again. This time with less restraint. Ink was laying on the grass with his head in my lap. He closed his eyes and listened with a small smile of his face.
After I finished the last notes. I realized I felt something different this time. With Ink by my side, I didn't immediately think of my past. I didn't feel fear or anger. This time, I felt love and happiness.
I leaned down and rested my head on his.
Me: How about we eat food now?
Ink: Yes please.
(Time Skip)
We ate our food a few minutes ago and now, we're just hanging out together. I was practicing while Ink was doing something. Suddenly, I felt something on my head. I looked up and saw that Ink put a flower crown on me. He had one himself. He sat next to me with a smile of his face, rainbow blush slightly dusted his cheeks.
Ink: You look adorable.
I chuckled. I took off mine and put it on his head along with the other.
Me: Trust me. You're way more adorable. You can rival Mother Nature's beauty at this point.
Ink's blush grew until it was a solid shade of rainbow, completely covering his face. He started to pout. I put my guitar aside and hugged him. I positioned him between my legs so he was comfortable. He kept his face in my chest and refused to show it. I wrapped my arms and jacket around him so he would stay warm. It was like a cocoon. I started to sway back and forth.
'Ink. You're the queen of my sanctuary.'
I fell backwards onto the ground with him now to my side. I closed my eyes and slowly started petting him. Not long after, we both started to fall asleep. I heard Ink sneeze quietly.
Me: Are you cold?
Ink: A little.
I tightened the jacket around him and hugged him closer. The sun was warm and yet the breeze was cold. The grass rolled under the wind. Birds were singing within the trees. Normally, I only see the sky in the morning or at night. I actually like seeing the environment during the middle of the day. It's peaceful, in a way.
(Time Skip)
I opened my eyes to see the black sky. It was cold. Cold enough to get someone sick.
'I need to get Ink inside.'
I looked to my side and lightly pushed him awake.
Me: Hey Ink. Wake up.
He hummed in protest.
Me: Come on. You can't be getting sick on me.
Ink: But I'm comfortable, laying here with you. I don't care if it's cold.
I gave him a warm kiss and lowered my voice.
Me: Ink.
Ink: Alright, alright, fine.
He sat up and stared at me while I put the guitar back in its case. He held onto my arm. His hand gently brushed my wrist but I flinched quite a bit. He looked at me with a confused and hurt expression.
Me: Sorry. I'll talk to you about that some other time.
I teleported us to his room. Ink sat on his bed and waved me goodnight. I went back to mine so I could put the instrument back. I needed to go to the pharmacy before it closed.
Once I arrived, I walked to the lady behind the counter.
Lady: Good evening. What are you in for?
Me: I came to pick up medication for schizophrenia.
Lady: Name, please.
Me: Error C.Q.
Lady: Ah, yes. Now I remember.
She went behind a wall and came back with a small bag.
Lady: Here you go.
Me: Thank you.
I went back to HQ. I entered my bathroom and immediately opened the bottle. I swallowed a pill, then felt a little better about my mind state.
Thank fucking god
