Chapter 34 - A Tiny Journey

Blueberry's POV

I walked through the hall to make myself coffee for the morning. I ran into Dust along the way.

Me: Good morning Dust.

Dust: Morning Blue.

Me: Wanna walk together?

Dust: Yeah.

We walked down the hall together. Dust took my hand in his and started swinging them back and forth. When we made into the kitchen, we saw Ink sitting along, eating. We both noticed the pot on the stove.

Dust: One, why are you sitting alone with a pot of soup? Two, is there any left?

Ink: To answer your first question, Killer woke me up to help him with this soup. And for the second, yes there is.

Dust: Sweet.

He poured both of us two bowls and we sat across from Ink.

Me: Why did Killer wake you up?

Ink: As I said before, he needed help with it. Dream is also sick so he wanted to take care of him.

Me: That's so sweet of him.

Ink: I know right. I wish someone would do that for me.

Ink pouted slightly.

Dust and I looked at each other, knowing that there are two people who would do that for him.

The three of us sat in silence for a little bit. The only sound being the clanking of the spoons against the ceramic bowls.

Ink: Hey Dust, do you have any plans for today?

Dust: No.

Ink: Well then, you have the day to yourself. Oh, you can go hiking in the mountains. The weather and scenery is beautiful during this time of year.

Dust: I wouldn't mind going on a hike. Blue, you interested in going with me?

Me: That sounds fun. Ink, wanna come?

Ink: Sorry. I have two contracts in Germany and Turkey so I'll be gone today. Besides, I think you and Dust should have some fun together.

Dust: Tryna hook us up, mate?

Ink: Maybe.

He laughed and continued eating his food. We ate while talking about the places we wanted to live or the type of families we wished to have.

Error sat next to Ink and buried himself into the crook of his neck.

Ink: Morning Error.

Error: Mornin' Ink.

Ink offered him a spoonful of soup.

'Error and Ink make an adorable couple.'

Error pretended to eat from the spoon when he stole the whole bowl.

Ink: Hey! Asshat, that's mine. Give it back.

Error: No. It's too fucking good to not eat.

Ink: Then share.

Error: Kiss me first, then I'll share.

Ink pouted and blushed.

Ink: Fine.

After Ink quickly kissed Error on the cheek, he turned away and stared at the table. Error chuckled while pushing the bowl between them. They started sharing together.

Ink: So Blue, do you have hiking gear?

Me: No.

Ink: Dust, you might wanna take Blue to get gear. Since he's joining you and everything.

Dust: I'll do that right after we finish our food.

Ink: We should save some for the others.

Error: We should but do we have to?

Ink: It's the nice thing to do. Tell you want. I'll make Chalakiles when I get home. Error, you have any contracts?

Error: Yeah three, a doctor, a celebrity, and a bank owner.

Me: What's Chalakiles?

Ink: It's a Chamorro dish I picked up in Guam.

(Time Skip)

We trailed up the side of the mountain with our camel packs. The air was colder and the trees were colored with orange and gold. Dust led the way, acting like he knew the place like the back of his hand. He stopped and leaned against a tree.

Dust: Rest for a second and take a drink.

I took a sip of water and got on my knees. I looked out onto the horizon. The town was below and I could see HQ from here. The people of the small town were like ants, busily walking between the buildings.

Dust: What are you looking at?

I looked at Dust, who was kneeling next to me with his hand on my back.

Me: I'm admiring our town. It's secluded from the big city up north. So small and serene. You can see the farms and Nightmare's mansion. It's beautiful.

Dust: Not as beautiful as you.

I looked at him with a slight shook expression. He sighed and settled himself on the ground.

Dust: I've been meaning to say this for a while now. The night I kissed you, I felt something that I never experienced during my one night stands.

Me: What are you saying?

Dust: What I'm saying is that... I think I'm in love with you.

Those words caused me to become motionless. I never expected him to tell me this. I'm guessing my silence made him feel uncomfortable because he started talking again.

Dust: I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that. I wouldn't be surprised if you hate me now.

I hugged him.

Me: I don't hate you. Actually, I'm attracted to you as well.

I smiled childishly. He smiled at me and hugged back. We sat on the damp ground, embracing each other. The birds and the leaves rustling in the wind could be heard around us.

Dust: Lets continue our hike, mate.

We stood up to continue our little journey. I dusted off the mud from my cargo pants. Dust held my hand as we walked up the rocky side of the mountain. We finally made it to the top. I looked out onto the horizon again. The big city up north could be see far away. I stepped closer to get a better view of town. Dust wrapped his arms around me.

Dust: Careful, Blue. I don't want you falling.

Me: Sorry. Look how beautiful this is.

Dust: I know. I've been up here many times. I always love the relaxing feeling that this place gives me.

He sat down with me rested between his legs. I took off the camel pack and opened it. I offered him a cliff bar, which is a snack bar that has a lot of protein in it.

Dust: Thank you.

He tore off a piece and handed it back to me. After a hike up a mountain, I was on the verge of starvation. I leaned further into Dust's chest to stay warm. The air was cold up here and I didn't want to catch a cold like Dream.

Dust: Hey Blue.

I hummed in response.

Dust: Wanna camp up here for the night?

Me: Won't it be cold tonight?

Dust: Not if we have each other. Also I brought a tent and a woobie.

Me: Woobie?

Dust: It's what the military calls a poncho liner.

Me: Huh. I never picked that up in camp.

(Time Skip)

After helping Dust set up, it was already 19:45. I leaned against Dust's shoulder while he warmed up a small pot of coffee. Coffee is the nectar of the gods and needs to be taken everywhere. He made a fire by using the branches of nearby trees. Since it was fall, the stars were already almost out. The moon started to show itself, its soft light peeking from between the mountain side. Dust handed me a cup and dry creamer.

Me: Thank you.

He hummed as to say 'you're welcome'. I took a sip from my drink and immediately felt my soul heat up. Dust wrapped his arm around me.

Dust: After thirty minutes, we can go into the tent since the blanket is in there. If that sounds good with you.

Me: Yeah. It would definitely be warmer.

We sat together, not bothering to say anything because we didn't want to break the peaceful silence. After I finished the coffee, we went into the tent. I leaned on my stomach and stared at the sky through the door. Dust took the poncho liner and laid it on top of both of us.

Suddenly, I saw a jet flying through the sky, slowing down over the town. That's Ink coming home from his missions. Dust started to cuddle me. I guess this was a sign that he wanted to go to sleep. I zipped up the tent and gave back the affection that Dust was giving me. We fell asleep quickly after a few minutes.

(Time Skip)

I woke up, laying alone in the tent. The zipper was open and Dust was outside. I crawled out which caused Dust to look at me.

Dust: Morning, mate. We can pack up our things and just teleport back to HQ. We can eat breakfast there.

Me: Okay.

I stood up and stretched until I heard a few pops. I started taking down the tent so I could roll it up. When we finished, Dust took my hand and teleported us back home. We appeared in the living room. Cross was sitting on the couch, playing on his phone. It seems no one else was awake.

Cross: You guys are back. We expected you to be back last night. Ink cooked dinner but luckily for you, there's still some left.

Me: Cool. I'm going to shower than get some.

I walked upstairs and into my bedroom. I turned on the shower. I let the warm water run down my body, feeling the dirt wash away. I really enjoyed hiking yesterday but nothing beats a good shower. I thought about the events yesterday. Dust confessed to me and I didn't have the courage to tell that I loved him back. I was too shocked in the moment to tell him my real answer. Instead, I said I was attracted to him.

'That was stupid.'

I smiled slightly. Maybe later today, I'll tell him that...

I love him
