Chapter 31 - Play Nice

Horror's POV

'Fuck that insufferable bastard.'

That was all I could think as I sat down on the couch in the living room. Before I could do anything else, Dust yelled at me.

Dust: Hey cunt, get your country ass back in here.

Yes it's true, I'm from the country. I was born on the border of Oklahoma and Texas. However, my accent isn't as strong as most stereotypes. That's actually the case for most southerners. I hide mine though, so I don't get made fun of.

I walked up to Dust.

Me: What's up man?

Dust: Why the hell did you walk out? Are you racist towards Spanish people or something?

That question shocked me.

Me: No no no. I love Spanish people. It's just Cross who I hate.

Dust: Why?

Me: He reminds me of the person who stole my fucking motorcycle.

He started laughing.

Dust: Mate, really?

Me: Yeah.

He patted my shoulder and then got a little serious.

Dust: I don't want to force you but just take the time to get to know him. He's actually pretty cool.

I sighed in defeat.

Me: Alright fine.

He put his hand on my back and pushed me back into the kitchen.

Dust: Great news guys, I persuaded Horror to play nice with Cross.

Dream: Oh cool.

We sat down at the table with Cross. Dream was at the counter. I left Lust in my room so he could sleep in. It was a Monday and the air was chilly. The current month was October so it was nearing the cold winter.

Dream handed me a plate. I thanked him and started eating from it. Killer limped into the room. He let out a pained yawn.

Killer: What time is it?

Me: You have a phone.

Killer: I left it in my room and I'm not going back to get it. Do you know how long it took me to get down the god damn stairs? Fucking ages.

Cross: It's 09:36.

Killer: Thanks.

I yawned and scratched the crack on my head.

Dust: Oh by the way, Killer and Horror, Ink made coffee earlier.

Killer: God, Ink's a lifesaver.

Killer walked towards the coffee brewer. Dream rushed towards Killer and sat him down at the table.

Dream: I'll get it for you. Horror, do you a cup while I'm up?

Me: Yes please and thank you.

We spent the next minutes talking when Nightmare teleported into the room. Cross got excited and asked Nightmare a question.

Cross: Hey Nightmare. Want to go on a mission together?

Nightmare: Sorry Cross but I have plans today. You and Dust ca- holy shit, is Horror and Cross in the same room together?

I sighed and said sardonically.

Me: Yes. Dust forced me to experience this hell. He wants us to play nice.

Nightmare: Then how about you two go on a mission. Get to know each other.

Cross: That sounds good.

Me: I suppose.

Nightmare chuckled as he got himself food. He teleported to an unknown location. Cross took out a small bottle of tequila and poured some into his drink. I rolled my eyes.

(Time Skip)

Cross and I stood on the highest building in a big city in California. I held my axe with a tight grip as I scanned the lively city below. Traffic was abundant and people walked the streets. Before we left the mansion, we waited for Blue to wake up and help us. He told us all that he was learning technology so he was happy to help. I adjusted my audio device. Alice was helping as well.

Me: Hey Cross.

He hummed in response.

Me: Where do you think our target is located?

Cross: We really don't know until Blue and Alice give us information. I think we should have gotten it before we left but, there is a certain feeling of entertainment as we work while receiving the info.

Me: I agree.

<We found the person you two are looking for. She's located at a bar. I looked over your contract and I found something interesting. Apparently the person who paid you to do is, will pay extra if you kill her coworkers as well.>

AI: {You'll have to evacuate the area before you kill anyone that is not needed dead. I suggest you hide your faces while doing so.}

We looked at each other and nodded. Pulling up our hoods, we teleported to the bar. Without looking suspicious, we walked around telling everyone to leave before something bad happened to them. Some people resisted but we were able to convince their stubborn asses. We walked up to the bar and tossed the card onto the counter.

Me: Double Bourbon, neat.

I said in my native accent.

They saw the card and were shocked. They knew who we were. Everyone except for the woman pulled out a gun and pointed it at us.

Me: Fellas.

Cross seemed to sense my grin as he pulled out his knife and swiftly cut the head off of one of them. The men started shooting at us. We dodged every bullet with ease, slowly cutting down the numbers with our blades. When I got closer to a male human, he raised his leg and kicked me into a nearby table. All of the air left my body as the wood rammed into my spine. The man that kicked me towered above. Suddenly, Cross's knife pierced through his abdomen. His blood splattered onto my face.

Me: Time out, time out, blood on my face.

I wiped the substance off with my sleeve to prevent any of it getting into the crack. It is very uncomfortable when external objects are in my head. Once I was finished, Cross helped me up. We killed every coworker. The woman backed away until we cornered her. She pleaded that she would do anything.

AI: {What are you waiting for?}

<Take your time, it's okay. We actually don't have anything to worry about.>

AI: {Oh Blueberry, bless you're little heart.}

As a southerner, I knew that the phrase that Alice said did have a good meaning.

Cross looked at me and patted my shoulder.

Cross: You can have the kill.

I took my battle axe and slid the blade against her cheek. I didn't want to kill her just yet. I wanted her to suffer and think about what she has done to deserve this. She broke down crying and started wishing that her loved ones were here. I swung the axe through her body, thus taking her life. Her blood slowly creating a puddle and her intestines were laying upon the laminate floor. Cross cringed at the sight but I was fine with it. This is how I normally killed my targets.

Cross put his hand on his neck but started freaking out.

Cross: My cross is gone. I had it on when I killed the first guy so I know it's here.

I decided that I would help. I searched through the pile of bodies with my hands. Suddenly, I felt something cold and small. I picked it up and looked at it. A necklace with Jesus Christ on a cross attached to it. There were a few drops of blood that colored the silvery surface.

Me: Hey Cross.

Cross: Qué?!

Me: I found it.

He rushed over to make sure I wasn't fucking with him. He saw the small cross and took it. He literally started to cry.

Cross: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

He cleaned it off and fastened it to his neck.

Me: Why is that so important?

Cross: My abuela gave it to me.

Me: Your what?

Cross: Grandmother.

I stepped over the dead bodies to the counter and grabbed the card.

'I have an idea.'

Me: Hey Cross. Want to go get some alcohol back home. I'm curious about your life.

Cross: Yeah, that sounds fun. Let's go then.

<Great work guys. I'll see you back at HQ.>

Me: Oh Blue, I forgot you were there.

<Sorry.>

He then went silent. He must have disconnected. We teleported back to the mansion to clean ourselves up before we would leave to get some drinks. I wore a simple grey shirt and black cargo pants. I even decided to wear a my dog tag.

TOMB
HORROR A.
XXX-XX-XXXX
B POS AA
CATHOLIC

Cross was wearing a hoodie with a Spaniard company logo on it. He was also wearing blue jeans and his black'n'white scarf. And of course, he was wearing his sign of religion around his neck.

Cross: Ready to go amigo?

Me: Yeah.

(Time Skip)

We sat at a table in our town bar. I was drinking a double bourbon because I never got one from earlier and Cross was drinking beer.

Me: So, tell me about your life.

Cross: Well, I was born in Spain. Moved to Mexico when I was eighteen. I wanted to have better choices in education so I moved to this country. Once I finished university, I went to the camp. You pretty much know the rest. What about you?

Me: I was born on the border of Oklahoma and Texas. I spent my elementary years working on my family's twelve acres. When I reached high school years, I moved to the city and lived with a roommate named Undyne. High school is when I met the guys. Nightmare, Dream, and Ink were there since the beginning. Dust transferred to our school during second year and Killer came during third. Error was the last because he joined during the last year. After we graduated, we joined the military. And now, we're here.

Cross nodded as he took another drink of his beer. He rubbed his cross gently.

Cross: What's your religion?

Me: Uh, I am Catholic.

Cross: Oh that's cool.

Me: Hey, you know. I wouldn't mind if we went on missions again. Sorry I was a fucking douche.

Cross: Ah I forgive you amigo. I was equally a cabrón. Shake on it?

Me: Put her there, partner.

I said in a very stereotypical country twang. We shook hands as he laughed.

Cross: Is that your actual accent or just you being a dick to your own kind?

Me: Just me being a dick.

We laughed at each other. I drank the last of my bourbon in one gulp and cringed a little.

Me: Oh god, the strongest shit always sinks down to the bottom, doesn't it.

Cross: It does actually. That's why I stick with beer because it's not as strong. By the way, I'm curious about what happened to your head. Why is there a hole in it?

Me: Undyne accidentally put a hole in my head that the doctors weren't able to fix.

Cross: Damn, that sucks.

Me: Pfft, yeah but, it ain't that bad anymore.

(Time Skip)

I checked my watch.

Me: Hey, we should probably get back before the guys start worrying.

Cross: Yeah.

We walked out of the bar and headed towards the mansion. We both thought it was a good idea to walk since we weren't even tipsy because we are heavy drinkers. We could see our own breaths because of the chilly air. Eventually we made back to HQ. I opened the door for both of us. After I walked in, I saw that Dream was helping Killer and his leg get back into its previous healthy state. Lust was sitting on the couch, waiting for something. Dust and Blue were doing something on the computer. Everyone else was gone.

Cross: Hola amigos. We're back.

They all waved and went back to what they were doing.

Me: They didn't have to act so excited.

I muttered to Cross, which caused him to laugh quietly. I let Cross go do his own thing while I walked over to Lust. I kissed him on the cheek and he cuddled me back.

Lust: I missed you.

Me: I was only gone for a day.

Lust: I was lonely.

He whined. I chuckled and rested my head on his chest. I was tired. He tried pushing me off but I wouldn't move.

Me: Let me sleep on you.

Lust: No.

Me: You're not the one who had to deal with several guns.

He cupped my cheeks.

Lust: You're not hurt, are you?

Me: I'm fine.

He smiled.
