Chapter 29 - A Missing Body
The song above is what Geno's theme would be in this story.
Geno's POV
I leaned against the island in the kitchen. How is it that I'm a month in and I already feel exhausted? What the fuck. Well, this is Reaper's child I'm talking about so, I guess it does make some sense.
Fresh came into the room and sat down on a bar stool.
Fresh: How are you feeling?
He never talked to me in his lingo. A sign of respect, he told me.
Me: I feel like I want to die.
Fresh: Did you have morning sickness?
I sighed.
Me: Yes and it sucked ass.
Fresh: I understand the pregnancy thing but could you at least watch your language just a little.
Me: I'll try but don't expect me to do that twenty-four seven, especially if Reaper is around.
Fresh: Is that a special occasion or something?
Me: No it's just... Reaper makes me want to punch him in the balls so I am most likely going to curse around him.
I looked at the cloak to see what time it was. It was around 5:00 pm, also known as 17:00. Reaper should be here any minute. Lately, he has been stopping by everyday to make sure I'm okay after he was done with work. I was surprised by this because when I was a child and mom was pregnant with Error, dad never checked on her, ever.
As if like clockwork, Reaper came in through the door. He was holding a notebook in his right hand while writing something with his left. He never goes anywhere without that damn thing. I'm starting to think he's in a relationship with it.
Fresh left to go to his room. I wasn't needed in court today so I was given a short break.
Reaper closed his book and sat down. I became curious about what was in it. I knew he was an illegal assassin, since I am his lawyer but I don't actually know what he does.
Me: You always have that. What's so important that you have to write it down?
Reaper: Everyone knows that ten people signed the bill that made this country go to hell. However, all but one name was revealed. I've took it upon myself to kill these people so that this law could end. So far, only one has died, and it wasn't even by my hands.
He looked like he wanted to say another piece of information but chose not to.
Me: Why do you want this job to be gone so bad? Don't you know that can make quite a bit of people unemployed.
Reaper: I know that but there's this person back at my apartment complex that I want to keep safe. However, there's another reason now.
He looked down. His demeanor changed into something that I've never seen before, especially with Reaper. His expression was soft and... sad almost.
Reaper: You came into my life. You stole my soul. You make me feel like a normal person. I'm scared that I might lead danger to you or my friend. Now that you're pregnant with our child, that feeling is ten times stronger. I can't live without you.
He looked up at me. I didn't realize at first but, he was crying. This conversation must have hit a soft spot. This is so strange. I've never seen Reaper, of all people, even shed a tear.
I walked around the island and went towards him. I hugged him from behind. Since he was sitting down, I rested my head on top of his. This would have been different if he was standing. He's much taller than me. Reminds me of my little brother. Error was always unreasonably tall.
Me: How about a change of topic. Who is this friend of yours?
Reaper: Her name is Diana. She's basically my mother. She took care of me after I moved here.
'Ah yes, I forgot he's Italian.'
I slowly started feeling tired again. This probably is because I can't drink my daily hundred cups of coffee. I have to avoid drinking caffeine all together.
Reaper made me wrap my arms around his chest. He must have sensed my discomfort.
Reaper: You want to lay down?
Me: Yes.
He gently pushed me off so he could stand up. We walked up the stairs and into my bedroom. He helped me down and pulled the covers over me. Reaper sat down next to me on the bed. While studying his notebook, he gently stroked my head, helping me fall asleep.
I was close to falling asleep when Reaper took off his cloak. He put the cloth in front of him on top of his outstretched legs.
(Time Skip)
I let out a small yawn as I opened my eye. Reaper was sleeping with his left arm around my waist and his right on the pillow just above my head. The notebook was on the nightstand behind him. I checked the time. The clock read 1:00 am.
'We slept for eight hours.'
The moonlight flowed in through my window, giving everything a ghostly glow. The AC wasn't on but the rooms temperature was cold. I huddled closer to Reaper to feel some of his warmth. He responded to my slight movement by opening one of his eyes. He grabbed his cloak and pulled it on top of me. It almost felt like a thick blanket. I stayed still, staring at Reaper. I couldn't muster up any urge to sleep.
I took Reaper's arm off of me and slid out of bed. I wrapped the cloak tighter around my body. Walking to the screen-like dial on the wall, I turned it to a higher temperature to warm up the house. The temp was shown on the screen of the dial. I yawned as I walked to the kitchen to get a glass of water.
I was sitting on the couch, drinking my water when I heard someone coming down the stairs. It was Fresh.
Me: Morning. Couldn't sleep?
Fresh: Good morning and no, I couldn't. Lately I haven't been able to sleep well. I hate to say this now but I need to get more medication.
I sighed.
Me: Okay just... put it on the list for when I go shopping.
Ever since Fresh was born, he has had Schizoid Personality Disorder, SPD for short. Luckily a few years ago, scientists were able to create a proper treatment for it. Fresh was never able to feel emotions until he started taking his medicine. I'm happy that he'll be able to get a boyfriend or girlfriend now. When he was younger, he grew strong bonds with animals.
Our family has always been a bit messed up. I was always incredibly ill with a soul disease until a miracle occurred and I survived from it. However, I had to have surgery, for some reason which caused half of my face to melt. Error has Schizophrenia and Fresh has SPD.
Fresh sat down next to me and gave me the remote for the TV.
Me: No. You can have it.
(Time Skip)
We sat there for a few hours, just talking to each other. Here and there, one of us would get up and do something but then come back. I went to the bathroom to throw up a few minutes ago.
I looked at my phone to read the time. Fresh was leaning against my side, his eyes were half opened. His shades and hat were resting next to him. I lightly tapped him on the shoulder.
Me: Hey, start getting ready for school.
Fresh: Huh? Oh, okay.
Fresh stood, stretched and put his shades on. He went upstairs to get his rucksack. I got into a laying position and draped Reaper's cloak over me since I still had it.
Fresh walked down the stairs. He opened the door to start walking to school. I looked up at him.
Me: Do you want me to drive you there?
He smiled at me.
Fresh: No, it's okay. Thanks for offering bro.
Me: Have fun then.
Fresh: I'll try.
He walked out, making sure to close the door behind. He's forgotten to do that a couple of times.
I sat alone in silence. This caused my mind to wonder. It somehow ended up thinking about the night Error tried to kill father.
~~~~Flashback~~~~
Geno's POV (Age 22)
I haven't moved out of the house. I just haven't found the right place for me yet. Also, I couldn't leave. Father never took care of Error or Fresh so I had to step in as the caretaker. I didn't have to worry about Error as much because he was seventeen. However, Fresh was five and needed parenting. I haven't been able to figure out why Fresh couldn't express any emotions. I worry about that kid. Two weeks ago, a squirrel started coming by the house and eating from the bird feeder. Fresh was fascinated by the creature. He started feeding it himself. After just three days, he and the squirrel were friends.
Error was in his room, probably playing online games with his friends.
'He better be done with his homework.'
Father came home earlier with another side chick. I was sitting at the island finishing my homework for law school. I was keeping an eye of Fresh the whole time. He was outside, playing with his friend.
I sighed and stood up. I needed to check on father, just in case. I walked down the hallway but I stopped abruptly. The door to the master bedroom was opened a bit. Father always closed his door when he came home. I pushed it to see more inside but what was before me looked like it had been straight out of a horror movie. Error was standing next to the bed, looking at a knife that was plunged in the head of our dad. Error stabbed him. My little brother noticed me staring at him. He bolted past me and into his room. After I processed what just happened, I turned around and started calling his name. I gave up on that and started trying to kick the door down. I was finally able to get through but, the room was empty. The window was open and his rucksack was gone.
'He ran away.'
I stood still in the middle of the abandoned room. My hand trailed to my pocket and pulled out of my phone. I didn't have control of my actions. My hands typed in the famous three digit number. While pressing the button to call them, I went back to the master bedroom to wake the side chick.
When I successfully woke up the woman, she screamed at the sight of the man who fucked her, who is now dead. She tried to run out but I stopped her.
Me: I don't need you leaving. My little brother is outside and I can't have him seeing this or even thinking that something is wrong.
I gave her a death glare. The police answered.
911: Hello 911, what's your emergency?
Me: I would like to report a murder.
(Time Skip)
The police had finally arrived. I was able to drive Fresh to our Aunt's house before they got here. I can't have him seeing anything that would affect him in a negative way.
The woman was crying and constantly pleading that she wasn't guilty while the police interrogated her.
I walked with the officers into the room but...... the room was empty. The knife was still there, glinting under the light of the moon coming from the window. Blood stained the white sheets of the bed but there was no body that it belonged to. A young man picked up the knife with a gloved hand. He dusted it and was surprised.
Man: There are no fingerprints.
'Of course not dipshit. We're skeletons.'
I already gave my alibi that proved my innocence. I didn't tell them that Error was the murderer. Even though he committed a crime, I still wanted to protect him and keep him out of danger.
~~~~End of Flashback~~~~
A pair of hands ended my thoughts. They pulled me into a lap. I looked behind me and saw Reaper. He wore a concerned expression.
Reaper: Are you okay? Your glowing eye was active.
Me: I was just thinking. About a memory.
Reaper: That must have been a killer memory. Is that why you looked chilled to the bone?
Me: Reaper... shut the fuck up. I'm not in the mood for puns right now.
He chuckled.
Reaper: Alright, alright.
He kissed the back of my neck. He then bit me. His teeth piercing my shoulder blade. I let out a soft hum. He looked up at me. I could sense the grin on his face.
Are you a masochist?
