Chapter 28 - Deal with the Devil

I'm back, sorry for the sudden vacation that I took.

Dust's POV

Dream and Killer had left a little while ago. That's also when everything went to shit. The rest of us were talking when we heard yelling from the drawing room, then footsteps, then a loud bang. My evaluation, someone yelled at the other, that person ran to their room, and slammed their door shut. I looked around, I saw everyone except for Nightmare and Ink. They left and went to the.... drawing room. Error seemed to know who is was that ran and immediately got up.

'Leave it to Error to go save his little Inky.'

Whatever is happening, I'm not sticking around to find out. I got up and went outside. I walked out onto the porch that surrounded the house. Columns and railing were lined along the edge of the porch floor. I looked upon the small town that was below us. We lived on a giant hill.

'Now is a good time to go on a mission.'

I was staring at my card when I heard someone come out of the house. It was Blue.

Me: Hey mate. What's up?

Blue: Why did you leave?

Me: I'm not sticking around for that bloody party if that's what you're implying. Sometimes, I'd rather be doing my job instead of having to deal with them.

Blue: Oh, well. What does your card say?

Me: Nothing special. Just a person who is going to die.

Blue: Well, I have something to tell you. I've been learning how to be like Alice.

Me: Be like Alice? What do you mean?

Blue: I can help you guys. I'm learning how to use technology, like hacking, finding info, and other things.

Me: That's fucking brilliant because Alice does a system update quite frequently.

Blue: Give me the card.

I gave him my contract and he looked at it.

Blue: I'll be right back.

He went back into the house. I lit up a cigarette, leaned against the railing and took a few puffs from it. I thought about the previous hour. The guys may be crazy at times but, I consider them my crazy family.

Blue came back with a laptop tucked under his arm. He sat on the railing and opened it. Staring at the contract, he started typing in some stuff.

Blue: Let's see here..... David Jones.

He made a few inaudible noises with his mouth. A thing that he does when he's thinking, I presume.

Blue: Ah, here we go. David Jones was born in Argentina in 1983 on September the second. He is currently in Las Vegas, Nevada, as it says on the card. His current occupation is a casino owner.

Me: That sounds interesting. I never had a casino owner before. Shit, lets do this.

Before I could do anything, Blue grabbed my arm.

Blue: Two things. One, I'm coming with you. Two, we can't just walk in there and kill him. He has several body guards.

I sighed about the realization. He was right.

Me: What do you suggest I do then?

Blue: That's why I'm coming with you.

He gave me a childish smile. He's an innocent little bean.

Me: Alright mate.

Blue: Then lets get going.

He gave me a smile of genuine happiness. A smile that was happier than the last.

'Is that even possible?'

(Time Skip)

We were sitting on the edge of a building, looking down onto the casino. The parking lot was filled with several cars. People were standing around, laughing, smoking, and fucking each other. I wonder which ones are affairs.

Blue was trying to find the layout of the casino while I tried to figure out a way to kill this guy.

Blue: I got it. Go inside the casino and I'll tell you the plan along the way.

I nodded and put on an audio device. The audio device is basically an ear device that is made for skeletons. It looks like a little dot that sticks to the side of our head, around the area that we receive sound waves. Weird, I know, but it's work great.

I teleported down to the casino and pulled my hood to hide more of my face.

<Alright. What I want you to do is rent a room for the night.>

Blue spoke through the device.

Me: Why is that necessary?

<Just do it.>

I walked up to the counter to ask for a room. The lady behind the counter was a busty woman. I swear, her tits were literally coming out, which makes me very uncomfortable. I asked her for a room.

Lady: Ok, your room will be on floor seve-

She stopped in the middle of her sentence.

Lady: Floor nine. Sorry, must have misread the numbers. Your room will be on floor nine and number nine hundred and twelve.

She handed a key and looked at me.

Lady: You seem lonely. Do you wish for me give you some fun in your room?

I knew that she meant sex.

Me: Sorry lady, I'm gay.

'Also, I am never alone.'

She gave a disappointed and slight disgusted look. Guess she doesn't really support homosexual people. I walked away quickly before she could do or say anything.

Me: What now?

<Go to your room.>

Me: Okay mom.

<Going there is important. I want to make sure that the plan works properly.>

I went to the elevator and pushed the button that would lead me to floor nine. I leaned against the wall while waiting in silence. I expected for Blue to be talking a lot more. Not hearing his voice... made me feel lonely. Like what the woman said earlier.

'Am I really that lonely?'

I don't normally think about these things. I just have one-night stands with other guys and don't think twice about them. I clenched my hands out of irritation.

'Now is not the time. I will do this more later after the mission.'

<Are you okay? You seem angry about something.>

Me: How do you know about my expression?

<I'm tapped into the cameras.>

I looked around the elevator and sure enough, there was a surveillance camera hidden away in the corner. I half assed a wave.

The elevator stopped moving and the doors opened. This is my floor. While walking down the hallway, I checked every door number. It was very tempting to run but, I'm pretty sure people are sleeping. I don't want to be rude. Once I came across my assigned room, I took out my key to unlock it. The room was a decent decorated room. Very clean and neatly organized, which is a plus. I shook my head. I am doing something very important, I can't have distractions.

<Do you see that vent on the bottom of the left wall.>

Me: Yeah.

'I know where this is going.'

<Climb into it.>

Me: Of course.

<That vent leads to a small network of other air vents, obviously. The one that you're looking at has the fastest route to the target's office.>

Me: How convenient.

<Of course it is. I hacked into their system and made sure that you got this room.>

I laughed at the fact that Blue was learning how to do this and yet, he's already pretty good. I kneeled down to get a good look at the metal panel covering the air ducts.

'Damn. There are screws. They're also made for a Phillips Screwdriver. I can't form a bone that is able to fit.'

Me: Blue. I'm going to have to improvise. The vent is pretty much inaccessible. I need a Phillips. It would have been different I needed a standard screwdriver.

<Okay um... I'm looking at the layout of the casino right now and I believe there is a janitor's closet on the first floor near the back. That's the best place if we were to find what you need.>

I turned around and walked out of the room. The door locking behind me. I teleported to the first floor. I like having this ability. The only drawback is that I need to be at a certain place once before I can teleport back to it.

Alright, Blue said that it was towards the back of the building. I came across a hallway that led to the area that I needed to be. However, has my luck is shit, there were guards standing in front of it. Without being seen, I got a good look at the end of the hallway. By using my magic, I was able to bypass the guards.

Me: Alright, which way?

<Turn left and the third door on your right.>

Finding the janitor's closet wasn't as hard as I expected it to be. There was a sign that literally said the words 'Janitor's Closet'

'Well then.'

I turned the door handle. It didn't budge. Summoning two small bones, I lock picked the door. It slowly opened with a few squeaks.

'That needs some WD-40.'

Looking at every shelf, I prayed to somehow find the right tool. After a few minutes of searching, I miraculously found a Phillips screwdriver. It's like God answered my prayers.

Me: I found one.

<Good. Now go back.>

Me: On it.

I went back to the room and quickly loosened the screws. Taking off the panel, I climbed into the vent.

<Be careful with where you apply pressure. We don't need you falling into a unwanted room.>

Me: I know.

I continued crawling through the air ducts, being extremely cautious.

<You're coming to the room in about->

Me: Blue? Blueberry?!

All I could hear was static. Something must be interfering with the connection.

Me: Damnit!

I covered my mouth. I didn't mean to yell. Hopefully no one heard me. I'll have to relay on my 'gut feeling'. I made my way through the cold air vent. Spending a least an hour peeking down through the panels, I finally found the office... at least I think I did. A man sitting in a chair looked up at me.

'What the fuck? How did he know I was here?'

???: I know you're there. Come down.

I was discovered, might as well. I moved the panel and jumped down. I watched the man before me. I made sure not to show my face.

???: My name is David Jones. I know what you are and I have proposition for you.

He gave me a list with twenty names on it.

David: I have some runaway debtors that haven't paid me back yet and I want you to kill them. Every person you kill on that list, I'll pay you six-hundred dollars. Since you're an assassin, I thought you would be intrigued. If you finish that list, I'll make sure I supply you a steady flow of debtors. Do we have a deal?

I did the math in my head. This man is worth so much more than all of these combined. However, the deal did sound a bit interesting.

Without looking away from the list, I summoned a bone and shot it through the soul of David.

Me: Sorry mate but I don't do illegal kills.

He was still slightly alive. His glazed eyes stared at me.

Me: I also don't deal with the devil.

David: You..... bastard.

Those were his final words before he passed into the afterlife. As soon as he died, my audio device stopped giving static noises and Blue's voice slowly came back.

<Dust? Dust! Oh thank god you're not dead. As soon as you came into a ten meter distance from the office, I started receiving static.>

It finally clicked.

Me: David must have been blocking our connection.

<I agree.>

I teleported back to the building that Blue and I were sitting on together. I sat down next to him. He saw me and hugged me tightly.

Blue: I was so worried that something happened to you.

I started coughing.

Me: Blue.. air please.

Blue: Sorry.

He went back to looking at his laptop. Suddenly, I had a theory. I forced Blue to look at me. We stared at each other for a few moments. I kissed him. This felt so much different from my one-night stands. It was an addictive feeling.

I love this

Sorry if there are a few typos or mistakes, I didn't have time to check thoroughly. Even though I reread this like three times.
