Chapter 109 - Seven Years Later - (Part 8)

Error's POV

I was forcefully woken by someone landing on top of me. Opening my eyes, I saw Gray laying flat on my abdomen. He had a wide smile on his face.

Gray: Good morning, dad.

Me: Good morning, Gray.

I glanced over at Ink and saw him still asleep. His pregnancy as been causing him a lot of discomfort so he didn't get much rest. When Ink was pregnant with Gray, there were a lot less problems. We could already tell that PaperJam was going to be a handful. In about a month Ink would be going into labor which means he is going to murder my hand.

Gray: Dad.

My son's voice called my attention.

Me: Yes?

Gray: I made a puppet of you.

He spoke with confidence. Despite his terrible stutter, he contently spoke English. However, when he was out in public, he communicated through sign language and when it was absolutely necessary, he spoke French. Gray was surprisingly fluent in such a hard language even though he was still learning. Ink and I started teaching him French early in his life so he would be ready for school. Since, you know, speaking French in France was kinda important.

Gray's appearance was a lot like mine. His bones were black and he had blue markings on his cheeks. He inherited my eyesight so he needed to wear glasses but his was a lot worse than mine. I didn't exactly need my glasses. Both Ink and I agreed that Gray was going to be tall, almost as tall as me. Pretty much everyone in this family is going to be taller than Ink. And then there was his stutter. Usually, he would trip up on letters that involved moving the tongue.

The puppet he made was the exact copy of me. Black boned, blue tear marks running down the eyes, and familiar clothes. Now he just needed to make one of himself, his mother, and his future baby brother. Gray had the artistic talents of his mother, Ink. Ink taught him how to create things from a very young age.

I felt Ink shift positions in bed but refusing to wake up.

Gray: Can we wake mama up?

He asked as he adjusted his glasses.

Me: Let mama sleep. He's been having a rough time.

I said as I lightly rubbed my thumb against my wife's forehead. I had to give him credit. Ink was a fantastic mother and an amazing wife. He ran an art museum but still managed to make time to keep everything in order. When I had trouble with my programming business, he stepped in to help.

I was really excited but anxious as today was our anniversary. For seven years, we have been married and I was going to express my love and affection. After Gray goes to bed, I was going to set up a candle date for Ink on our balcony.

Looking back at my child, I saw him checking the stitch work on his puppet. Every once in a while, he would push his glasses further up his nose bridge.

Me: You hungry, Gray?

He nodded which led me to stand up and officially wake up for the day. I didn't bother to put on a shirt since there was no need to. I normally chose to sleep without a shirt.

Following Gray to the kitchen, I yawned before stretching out my arms. I was going to make food but it had to be something quick as Gray had school today. It also had to be quick for me as I had a virtual meeting with my employees.

My child hopped onto a chair and set his puppet on the counter.

Me: Alright. What are you feeling for food?

Gray: Grilled Cheese?

Me: Kinda early for that but okay.

(Time Skip)

I walked up the stairs to the master bedroom with a plate of food for Ink. A few minutes ago, I took Gray to school and now was treating my wife with somewhat of a breakfast in bed.

Finding Ink tucked within the sheets, I lightly pushed him to wake him up. His eyes opened which let me see his beautiful mismatched eyes. He lifted himself and quietly groaned as he rubbed his face. When he was down, he looked at me and smiled.

Ink: Morning Ruru.

Me: Good morning Inky. How was your sleep?

I asked as I sat down on the bed and handed him the plate with the cheese sandwich.

Ink: It was fine, I guess. And uh, grilled cheese?

Me: It's what Gradient requested for breakfast.

Ink: Ah okay. Good enough, right?

Me: Right.

Rainbow blush slightly covered Ink's cheeks as he smiled. I put a shirt over my torso as he took bites from his sandwich. I had to start getting ready for my boring meeting.

(Time Skip)

I held Ink's hand as I guided him to our balcony. He had a blindfold over his eyes so he wouldn't see the setup that I created for our anniversary. As we walked, Ink kept a hand over his enlarged stomach. When it finally came to the time to remove the blindfold, I slowly lifted the fabric from his eyes.

Me: Happy seventh anniversary, Ink.

My wife gasped at the setting that I made. A blanket overlooking the city that we lived in with candles giving a soft and natural glow. There were small plates of various foods and a bottle for a drink, all safe for Ink to consume. Everything was made better by the lights from the city. There was also... a giant bean bag. Because Ink loves those things. My guitar sat in its gig bag, ready to be played.

Ink: Oh my god, Error! I love it.

Ink said as he sat down on the blanket. I followed him by sitting next to him and pulling him into my arms. Stuffing my face into his brown scarf, I kept him in my embrace. I put my hand on Ink's stomach and started to rub circles around it.

Ink leaned into me as he offered me a piece of food, which I gladly accepted.

We talked for about two hours as we ate before moving to the bean bag. As the stars began to glow brightly, we observed them and pointed out some constellations. After that, I played a slow song on the guitar which caused Ink to fall asleep next to me.

Setting the guitar, I wrapped my arms around my wife before closing my own eyes. As I fell into the dark abyss known as sleep, I heard my wife, Ink, whisper to me...
