The Scheme
Ecruteak was a beautiful city to May as she stared starry eyed at the architecture. She wasn't paying attention to the people walking towards her having to dive out of the way last minute because she had her head in the clouds. She started focusing on one tower in particular before smashing into somebody's chest. She fell backwards but they grabbed her by the wrists and yanked her up, the momentum crashing her into them again. She looked up in surprise. Her rival Drew Hayden stared down at her with his striking green eyes, smirking in amusement.
"You better be careful May, if it hadn't been me you could have seriously hurt somebody," he warned teasingly. She slipped her wrists out of his grasp before rolling her eyes up at him. Drew had hit a nice growth spurt within the past 2 years. He used to be about an inch shorter than her with a much taller ego, but now he stood at 6 "2 towering over her at 5 "5.
"Oh yeah, we'll what's your excuse for not getting out of the way?" She fired back.
"Maybe I wanted a reason to talk to you," He said, a serious look on his face. May looked at him curiously.
"Oooh, that's a joke right?" May laughed after a moment of silence. Drew let out a soft sigh that she barely heard before he gently placed his hand on top of her head.
"Right, a joke," he said quietly, patting her softly on the head twice.
"You're so confusing Drew, you and your split personality. I see you are nice Drew today," May said, chasing his hand away off from resting on her head. "And I hate it when you do that! I'm not a child you know!" She scolded him.
"I know, I know," he laughed, pulling his hand back to his side. "But you sure do act like one sometimes," he said with a wink as he started to turn around. May stuck her tongue out at him. He was a few paces in front of her when she realized he was leaving.
"Hey! Where are you going?" She asked, scrambling to catch up with him.
"To get food. It's lunchtime and I'm hungry" he said as if it was obvious. May's face lit up.
"You're right! It is lunchtime! Hey Drew, we haven't seen each other in awhile! Let's go to lunch together and catch up!"
"Fine, but I'm not buying your food, you always eat so much," Drew complained.
"That's so rude!" May huffed, her face screwed into a pout.
"The truth hurts May," Drew shrugged.
"Still! It's mean! It's not polite to comment on how a girl eats," May complained.
"But you have no problem complaining about the mass quantities of food Ash shoves down his throat. That's not fair," Drew pointed out.
"Okay, fine, I was being hypocritical. In general you shouldn't comment rudely on how someone eats!" May corrected herself.
"But you do eat a lot," Drew said. She grumbled and glared at him in frustration. Drew abruptly turned and she walked past him a step until he grabbed a hold of her and dragged her into a small restaurant. She wriggled out of his grasp and gave a small huff in annoyance at him, puffing her cheeks up. He chuckled at her.
"Settle down May, you're always so aggressive," he said to her. Her eyes narrowed at him.
"Maybe if you didn't always try to fight me and . get me all worked up, I wouldn't be so aggressive. And forget what I said earlier, you are definitely mean Drew today," she said, crossing her arms and looking away from him. She still had that pout on her face.
"Table for two?" The hostess asked, an amused expression at their display.
"Uh, yes, thank you," Drew laughed awkwardly. He dragged May with him as they followed the lady to a small table in front of a large window. The hostess placed the small menus onto the table before smiling courteously at them.
"You're waiter will be here momentarily," she bowed before returning to her post at the door.
When the waiter came, they ordered toasted sandwiches, and two waters. Within about ten minutes, their orders were placed before them and they began to eat.
They were almost done when a brunette haired guy walked up to the table with a big grin plastered on his face.
"May! It's good to see you!" He said.
"Brendan! What a surprise, how are you!?" She asked, springing up and giving him a tight hug. Drew glared at Brendan in jealousy. In response, Brendan smirked and winked at him. That aggravated him more.
"Why don't we go somewhere and catch up for awhile? Just the two of us? I'm sure your friend won't mind," he said. May giggled.
"Friend? I don't know about that. Pain in the butt, frustrating, annoying rival? Yes," May said.
"Oh please, I'm not that awful! If you're not nice, I'm not paying for your food," Drew warned her.
"But earlier you said you weren't going to because I eat too much," May said, surprised.
"It was a joke May. It was my idea to get lunch, so I was going to pay for it anyway. I just reserve the right to give you a hard time because I'm spending my money on you, that's all," he said.
"Okay so he's only my pain in the butt, frustrating, annoying rival 90% of the time," May amended.
"Gee, thanks May," he said dryly.
"Anyway, you up for that?" Brendan asked again.
"Actually, you know what? I'm completely happy right here," May said.
"Alright, I guess I just be on my way then. It was nice seeing you again May, and nice to meet you..?" Brendan said.
"Drew," he replied stiffly. Brendan smiles widely and offered his hand to shake. Drew reluctantly brought his hand up, but when they shook hands, Drew found that Brendan slipped a piece of paper into his hand.
"May look at that! There's a really cute Eevee outside!" Brendan shouted all of the sudden. May perked up and became fixated on the window. Quickly, Brendan grabbed Drew's attention and gestured to open it.
Shoot your shot
When Drew looked back at him, he winked.
"I didn't see an Eevee!" May said sadly as Drew stuffed the slip of paper into his pocket.
"Aw really? I thought I saw one, my bad," Brendan said while smiling sheepishly as he rubbed his neck. "Anyway, I will see you all later! Bye!"
"Bye Brendan!" May said, waving at him. There was silence between the two of them for a moment before Drew took a deep breath and sighed.
"May, there's something I need to talk to you about," he said seriously. May looked at him, concerned.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine, it's just..." he paused to gather his bearings before continuing.
"May, I like you. As more than a rival. As more than a friend. I love bantering with you and teasing you. You're so fiery and your reactions and retorts to the things I say are adorable. I never get bored with you around. As I started to spend more time with you through the past few years, I've found myself missing you when you're gone, and I'm at my happiest in our dynamic. I found myself getting nervous around you. When you talk to other guys, I find myself getting jealous, despite my better judgement. I'm very attracted to you," he confessed. He fidgeted as he waited for a response. May was thoroughly shocked. She froze for a moment to take it all in.
"You.. like me?" She asked cautiously. He nodded.
"You think I'm... attractive?" She asked again.
"Yes May, I am very much attracted to you," he confirmed. May's face heated into a blush.
"I'm sorry to spring it on to you so suddenly. And I know I'm not a perfect person and I might not be a Prince Charming or anything like that, but I can promise you that I will try my best," he said. Small tears began to form at the creases of her eyes.
"Is this really happening?" She asked.
"Yes," Drew chuckled.
"I'm so glad you feel the same," May said, a bit choked up. Drew smiled and put one of his hands over hers and let out a relieved sigh.

He felt his PokeNav buzz in his pocket. Curiously, he picked it up and smiled at the caller. He answered with a cheerful hello.
"How did you do it?" The voice asked immediately. The boy chucked.
"What do you mean Mrs. Maple?" He asked.
"I just got off the phone with her. She and Drew are dating. She said she saw you today as well," Mrs. Maple said.
"Oh, I just made him a little jealous and then told him to fess up. Guess it worked!" Brendan laughed.
"Thank you for helping them realize it, I really appreciate it. Without that push, they probably would have never confessed," Mrs. Maple giggled.
"Of course, anything to make May happy. She's like my little sister," Brendan said.
"Oh dear, I have to calm Norman down. You know how he is about May and boys. He's throwing a fit at the moment. Take care on your travels Dear," Mrs. Maple said.
"Good luck with Mr. Maple! Good bye," Brendan said.
"Bye bye,"

Thank you guys for sticking with me! I'm sorry this book isn't updated that much, but I've really run out of ideas to do. I've asked several times, but I do take suggestions for one shots, but no one has suggested anything. So until that time where I have a lot more ideas again, the updates will remain slow. However I do have 2 other one shot ideas. One is kind of more of a story idea, but the last thing I need is another new story.
Managing Defying Fate and one-shots was stressful enough, and still have that same amount to keep up with, now that it's one-shots and Platonic. And at this rate, Platonic is going to be much longer that Defying Fate. However at this point in time, the most I think it could have will be around or a little less than 30 chapters. Anyways, thanks for putting up with my crap.
