Sarah Smiles
Sarah was beautiful.
Sarah was smart.
Sarah was witty, charming.
Sarah had a weird and quirky sense of humor.
But Sarah's smile broke hearts into millions of pieces.
Her life was a mess, she had a lot of acquaintances, yet no close friends, no one to tell her deepest and darkest secrets too. Her parents were separated, her father was fighting in the war and her mother was hospitalized. She had been dumped by her boyfriend of 2 years. Sarah was passing all of her classes but she had no idea what she wanted to do with her life.
Everyone knew Sarah. Her name was on the lips of every kid in school. And there was only one Sarah in her whole school of 600 kids.
Sarah wore cute clothes of varying styles. One day she'd wear a cute pink dress, and the next she'd wear all black with killer makeup. Her sense of style was all over the place.
Sarah loved dogs, but was actually more of a bird person. She loved the various noises they'd make and how each species was different.
The one thing that made Sarah stand out the most though, was her smile. Every single picture you'd see her in would include Sarah making your heart beat fast with her big, flashing grin that crinkled her eyes and her nose. She had beautiful semi-white teeth, a few were crooked, but that's what made it perfect.
Sarah was perfect. Everyone loved her. No one said anything bad about her. But no one was her best friend. No one actually knew her. No one knew her backstory. Everyone just knew her name, and her existence.
I knew her though. Sarah was my best friend for years.
Something happened though. We didn't have a falling out or anything bad like that, it's just life. People change and fade in and out of your life. Sarah and I knew that.
I wanted to hear her voice address me. I heard it every day but never up close. She used to whisper sweet secrets to me in her room, causing ourselves to giggle relentlessly.
I loved her laugh.
"Wendy!"
Sarah's sweet, angelic voice said my name. A name I'm sure she hasn't said or heard of in years.
My heart pounded as I saw her beam at me. That gorgeous grin of hers pulled on my heartstrings and begged me to come closer to her.
"Hey Sarah! What's up?" I smiled back, not nearly as much as she did.
"Nothing much. I.." she paused,"Actually I was just wondering how you've been."
"Really?"
She nodded, still smiling.
"Oh. Well..uh..I've been good. You?"
"I've been good too." Sarah fumbled with the strings of her hoodie. She was going for a comfy casual kind of outfit today, with only mascara decorating her face.
"I also was wondering if you were gonna go to the football game tonight."
"Tonight?" I parroted like an idiot.
"Yes." Her smile shrank a little bit but in a fond matter. She made sure to make eye contact with me.
"Uh..sure. Yeah." Sarah was so unaware.
"Cool." She nodded again, then the bell rang,"Oh!" She looked around the hallway we stood in and giggled to herself. Kids started to walk in and out of the respective classes.
"I'll see you tonight then? I'll save you a seat."
"Yeah. Sure I-"
What happened next shook up my whole world like a snow globe. Sarah had leaned in and grazed her soft lips onto my cheek and kissed me. Her warm mouth sent shivers down my spine and caused me to be out of breath.
Sarah left me with a smile, and walked away.
A/N: alright this isn't exactly my favorite song so if this doesn't count it's okay. But I do adore this song and you know that lol and it's short but it's also like 2 in the morning and I can't sleep, so I figured I'd write something. I hope you like it boo
